I got the AGS-001 front-lit model. White text has a ghosting effect on black backgrounds. I guess backlighting fixes that issue.

Normal GBA with screen would be my preference, much better form factor than the SP (even if the SP looks cooler). :)

Yeah, over on the A&R that's a widely felt opinion as you know, that the perfect combo is the OG GBA modded with a AGS101 screen or equivalent.

The OG screen was terrible though, you could only see it with the planets aligned and the sun at just the right angle, with the international space station passing between the earth and the sun, and the screen angled at 48.7 degrees to avoid glare and catch the light just right for 5 minutes...

Yeah only playing during the solstice at Newgrange got a bit annoying so I upgraded to the SP. Big change. Did like the form of the original though

    Should try the GBC!

I had a GBColour, found the screen on the GBA much worse!

You're right, the GBC had less complexity on-screen, while the GBA was trying to do all sorts of console tricks, you couldn't see them properly!

The DS Lite is a cheap way of playing GBA games om a great screen without modding or investment in a hard to find variant.

I tried to avoid saying that so as to not sound high and mighty but.... aye, I bet I should feel old for showing it :pac:

I sure was old timer. :D I have a total of three memories from back then:

And my non-gaming mother's addiction with Bubble Bobble 2.

Well... It's Rainbow Islands, not sure why the release included Bubble Bobble 2 in the title, given there is a actual Bubble Bobble 2 game that's very different, now l the original.
But Rainbow Islands is fantastic alright.
Played it on a lot of platforms over the years, always great, even on the Spectrum!

    <<Flashback Physical Edition>>
I also got this recently and while I am happy I have the game and on a cart this was a complete rip. The "retro cartridge style metal case" is straight up garbage, looks crap, feels flimsy and is is difficult to open. Now this would be fine as it comes with a normal plastic case so could you just throw the steel box in a drawer, slap the cart in the normal box but oh wait but the instruction book doesn't fit in (doesn't fit in the steel case either). Also the game now goes on the end of an ever increasing backlog of games (OK that's not Microids fault).

Couple of new games for my Sharp Famicom Twin,

Nuts & Milk, and excellent platfomer for the Famicom, feels like a cross between Donkey Kong/Jr and Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands.

And Moero Twinbee for the Famicom Disk System

Did you get Octopath in Argos? Can't find that edition on the website.

That's the Collectors Edition. No I pre-ordered that.
I have a code for a normal copy in Argos if you want it. Send me a PM.

I have a reservation for the standard edition in Argos. Just couldn't collect it today :(

The book in CE is lovely looking.

It really is, I will try get some more photos later. A pop up for each character. I recognize 3 as I've got three characters in the demo.
It's got a map too which is going to come in handy.
Also a kind of gold coin.

Did you play with Therion? I found him excellent in the demo.

    Not found him yet.
My main for first 4 chapters is Olberic
    Then Primrose & Alfyn

    Good guide here

@ Mods can you move some of the specific Octopath posts into the main Octopath thread.

@Titan I'd say we are best off discussing there :)

It's worth owning a NES/Famicom or one of the mini remakes just to play it on the big screen, as the gods intended!

I have it on the Famicom

The NES version is my favourite platformer of all time. The box art was genius too, so simple but perfectly captures the joy of Mario flying.

Fantastic version. Played the absolute hell out of it a couple years back. Was always kinda hoping Nintendo would re-release this port on the Wii U or Switch (don't laugh) with all of the e-reader exclusive levels included.
