It has been a long while since I threw one of these together (2 years maybe).

Time for another I think - chime in if anyone wants to take a lead etc... But I would propose Monday, July 7th, Dublin South side (probably similar to other times, Lamb Doyles etc...).

Interest? The last one was a success and enjoyable to boot!

Tuesday or Thursday? - see post #59 6 votes

Yes indeed, I'll be there, would 7pm be a good starting time?

For anyone who wasn't there last time how did this work / what was for sale?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,531 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

A huge mix, alot of high end MTB stuff, high quality wheels and tyres, road frames, tools, a bike stand, road shoes. To be honest if you can mention it then there was probably one example of it the last time.

I was at this last time for a while and would recommend to anyone if it was a similar setup. Was still getting started when I got there and there were maybe 30 "stalls". These ranged from a couple of guys with vans who had new boxed stuff like a mini shop to people selling random crap out of their boots! There was everything from parts, clothes, bikes etc! It was here I picked up some cheap SPD SL pedals and shoes and made the move away from SPD's. Nice atmosphere too and a great location!

This was great the last time it was on. I'm still using some of RS's giant kenda team-issue bibs for commuting.

Sounds like there is interest then - I'll get on to Lamb Doyles.

Just looked in my desk in work, at least 30+ items of cycling items, 0 work related material, I think this car boot sale is a must.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,531 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Also as a bit of advice if you are bring stuff to sell, don't just have the price in your head, write it down and leave it attached to the item. In becomes a pain if you are trying to recall what you are/were selling if you don't.

    Is this happening?

Please be on a different night, I'm in work :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭ryan_sherlock

Yeah - waiting on confirmation from Lamb Doyles - they are very pro cycling (a hose in the carpark for washing down MTBs) so hopefully that night isn't an issue - when I know - I'll post and spread the word.

I pass by there every morning and always see the mountain bike lads getting ready and leaving their cars. Always wondered did Lamb Doyles care but that explains it

Don't want to be smart or offend anyone, but I'm presuming this isn't actually going ahead now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭ryan_sherlock

No - some folks didn't get back to me. I'll try them again - I'll make sure it is known and give some lead time on it. Weekends are out for most, Tuesday->Thursday are out for a lot with club leagues etc... so Monday and Fridays...

Actually, I think the new Edge 1000 would do that-it gets email alerts from your phone, so if you are following a thread, anything new will pop up on that. Only problem is, you probably would have to have the carboot sale first in order to sell enough stuff to be able to afford the edge 1000...

If people are that concerned about it, why not contact Lamb Doyles yourselves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭Eamonnator

I'm hoping, this drags on until the Mark Mullen League is over.
    Three more Mondays.

Ryan has already spoken to them so that contact has been made through him. I'd leave at that until Ryan gets back to us.

I know, so can we maybe stop hassling?

Why don't people lay out all their stuff, arrange it in a display pile of sorts, take a photo and lash the photo up here? It's surely the handiest virtual car-boot sale for cycling stuff that we all have access to?

I am just going to say no to that, thats pretty much what the adverts forum is and that is enough. You could always set one up in the car parks further out the LUAS line, i know the classic car club in south Dublin used to do that once a month, car park is so quiet that no one cared although it may be a tad far for those without a car.

Could set up a facebook page and create albums by components to make it easier for people to sort through the stuff. Would be a lot handier as opposed to mind numbingly scrolling down through wall posts to find that photo of a certain item you saw posted for sale a few days ago..

But of course that would require a generous volunteer with time to admin the page and unfortunately that rules me out...

If I'm around I'd be looking out for a pm, frameset and/or group set. Will defo be window shopping unless I see something I really like

I presume nothing more has been heard from Lamb Doyles. Anyone have any other suggestions for possible locations that we could ask permission to use their car parks.

I was thinking somewhere like the Goat in Clonskeagh, not because they are close to me or anything like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 829 ✭✭✭Koobcam

The Goat would be very handy for me. Has a nice big car park as well, so not a bad spot for a car boot sale
