XM Estate - a rare beast even back in the day, and very rare now.

Didn't have a chance to see the front so that's why the rear end confused me.

There is/was one of those in Waterford with huge miles clocked up. I last saw it about 5 years ago.

Don't know anything about it, except that it is mint!

It's owned by a guy who used to work in the parts department at a VW dealer in Dublin, so he knows his VWs (and can get parts for them too!).
We chatted at the Trim show a few years ago, as I'm a big fan of Mk1 Golfs (VW's Type 17 ;)).
Nerd-fact: The Derby (& Mk1 Polo) are VW Type 86, and the 8* number range actually implies an Audi, because the Mk1 Polo was originally launched as the Audi 50. :)

    Lot better looking http://www.stanceworks.com/2014/03/americas-only-1977-audi-50/
    than the A2 :ohttp://www.mobile.de/modellverzeichnis/audi/a2.html

Wonder has anybody 'badge engineered ' a Derby /Golf to 'Audi 60/70' ;)

As someone who thought the A2 was actually really good looking when it was introduced, and still think so, now that I have one as a daily driver, I'd have to disagree. Not that the Audi 50 (in non- pimped guise) is a mutt - it's just too cookie-cutter Giugiaro wannabe to really stand out. The A2 was both innovative, and unlike anything else in it's segment. The Audi 50 is just a German Fiat 127.

My Granny flipped an identical silver one of those in the 90s before they took her driver's licence off her. :p

    ^^ That's a cracker W124man.

The first car that I owned and was insured on (as opposed to named driver on my fathers cars) was an 89 Polo Fox 1.3. I bought it off an English chap who worked in the same company at the time, it was a great little thing back then (early 90s), but I did endure the "nuns car" & "breadvan" slagging that went with the territory. Subsequently sold it to a mate who bought it for his wife.

It really is so uncollectable but I love it. Its spotless inside and out and does about 30 mpg on the motorway ......

I use it at the weekends for the craic!

I cant remember when exactly I bought it but it was around mid 2011. It was rescued from the scrapman for €200 as it had not been used in years. There was body damage to the drivers side so I had that done and then had the whole car detailed. Then I changed all the brake hoses, pads, drums and discs front and rear and gave it a Mother of all services and a new set of tyres. Must have spent nearly a grand on it to get it perfect. Then I sold it to a lad who didnt like it so I bought it back (profit) cleaned it and serviced it, kept it for a while and sold it again to a lad who emigrated so I bought it back again (profit). I cleaned it and fitted a new CV joint and NCT'd it! When I did that last year I discovered that it had never been NCT'd before! Then I had to fit a new circuit board to the back of the speedo cuz everything stopped working.

It is so retro and basic and small ..... I love it and just keep driving it every weekend. I love the original number plates and dealer stickers and the fact that it doesnt even have a trip meter on the speedo. The mileage is a little higher since that pic was taken as I have been doing about 80 miles a week in it. Must be near 28,000 and a bit now and people find it odd that I drive this more than any of my W124's or W126's!

It guzzles the juice if you go over 60 ...

The '91 Merc lives in Donnybrook, not far from where the shot was taken. It is, of course (as per the reg plate) a 230E.

I see that BX regularly on the M11. I think it lives South of Gorey as whenever I see it, its from J23 onwards. He doesnt hang about either.

The BX looks very tidy from that angle, though I always thought they suited darker, bolder colours more than lighter colours like the above.

California reg Mustang in Greystones at the weekend. It was outside a local garage, so I'm guessing that's why the bonnet was popped. Bodywork looked in good order, blue leather interior.

not sure Capri, I haven't seen the car around the locale before. And the garage is a good local old school indy, not a recognised classic specialist, though I'm sure they'd be capable - maybe a quick fix was needed

Was down in the father in laws garage today giving my e46 a once over to get it ready for the nct. He has this still tucked away in the corner down there with only 38k miles!

Old school would probably KNOW his stuff and charge only 20% of what a 'Classic specialist' would be looking for - still a lot of old school shops around just plodding along ;)

They would be well capable, younger generation on the job now but I still see Murt, of the older generation about.. Showing the chaps that it's not all about plugging into a diagnostic ..:)
Haven't seen that Mustang about either, wonder is it a sister of the red one at the side of a house on Windgates, where the white Caddilac and the trikes live..
