Local car, I’ve seen it a few times. I own one in green, so I always notice any W116’s around.

Oooh, and I'm in the market! If she was 1800 cheaper it'd already be in my driveway.

Although..... is that front bumper rotten?

No, I think it's just a bad reflection on the chrome. Hafta say though, it's almost unforgiveable to register anything from 1987 on on a ZV plate.
    IMHO.

I was in the same boat as you regarding the ZV, but it's an almost perfect plate. A 730i with a reg of ZV 7301 would be spot on for her. I know the seller says it's to match the iL. It's close, but no cigar.

You can always lowball and see where it gets you. There's another for sale in Dublin, was 15 grand, but I see it's now 9 grand. A bit steep I think.

Yes, I suppose if you knew you were getting that particular number for her you'd have to go for it.

I think if you are respectful about it, you should see 1500 off that asking. A committed seller wont refuse a good offer these days if he needs to sell. Remember, hes probably been dealing with penniless gob****es offering €1500 all week.

If its hardball all the way, you've still lost nothing.

Knock a grand off the value straight away for that!

Recognise the location? Local to you..

Considering doing a deal with either of the older ones but nothing is set in stone. They're not exactly the sort of thing you can take out for a leisurely Sunday spin!

Are they air cooled? Being stuck in traffic on a warm day could be fun!

    Yes, they are air cooled.

What is wrong with them when they are stuck in traffic?

There's a big fan on top of the engine, pulling cool air up through a system of ducting whenever the engine is running - no problems with overheating while idling (unless there's a fault).

An engine like that runs cooler in traffic.

I didn't know that. I always assumed that air cooled engines would struggle when idling continuously in hot weather. You learn something new every day.

Wow at the '89 E34 535i - sweet looking motor! Looks more modern than the '94 one I bought two decades ago.

VW sold 20 odd million air cooled cars worldwide... I think that alone would be testament to their reliability.

Oh yeah... The cooling system in an aircooled engine like the one in P. or in a VW runs all the time from the fan of the engine, but the engine is not under load (heat stress) at the same time when in traffic.

Secondly, more cooling air is available in the summer time, as it is not being used to flow through the heat exchangers to heat the cabin like in the winter time.
