Funny you should be looking at jap hot hatches as I recently sold my 98 Civic SIR and bought a 2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport 1.5VVT which is more fun for my driving style down bumpy backroads:D sticks with some faster cars it has no right to lol

Cheap tax, great on juice and Id Imagine it would be even cheaper to insure and fuel than a 1.6Fiesta ZS or any Pulsar or fast Mivecs or Vtecs mentioned already too:cool:

Also gets the rarity factor which I love too you will not meet a 100 identical cars on the road every week like the civics;) -Paid 1500e for mine with valid test an not a bother from her -Recaro seats are beautiful even though I stripped my back seats out for added lightness:D

try a zetec S...they look better and go much better. Collectable and getting rare. Have their own club in the UK!

A puma 1.6 would be another option to consider.

VZR would probably be the cheapest to insure out if the Japs, 170 compared to the Civic SiR's 160 too!

And just to point out, the SR16VE N1 made 200bhp. The highest N/A BHP:Liter ratio ever until the Enzo was made. :pac:

    So much want.

Until the S2000 was made you mean!

The SiR is rated at 168, and actually tends to dyno at that unlike a few other cars in its class ;) that N1 now is a nice engine I would love to try one out.

See now this is what I wanted from this thread! I won't be swapping cars untill mid to end Summer possibly after I pass my driving test but ideas are what I'm after :D

Would a 1.9 TDI Golf be a smarter investment for the time being? Reading that the 1.4 petrol models are under powered and the engines are of a lesser quality (years ranging 99-03 etc not newer ones)

    No, just no.

Insurance would be astronomical is the biggest problem you'd face there.

VAG tdi cars are blacklisted by insurance companies atm.

Yep. Because the kind of 19/20 year olds that use to buy the likes of Levins, lie on their insurance application and then proceed to plow them into ditches and other drivers are now buying 1.9 TDI Golfs and Boras now instead.

I've noticed an increase in Bora's actually. I grew up in the wrong time

Might just look for a nice Civic, God damn reckless drivers! :p

Bora = Farmers car, no amount of body kits, HID & oversized mercedes/BBS replica alloys will ever make em cool or drive much better than the trrsctor they are underneath

The biggest problem (and no one mentioned it so far i think )is that most of the above cars are japanese import .Most insurance companies are not quoting or loading the price for any jdm car.I have one and every year its a serious headache to get a reasonable quote on it.A irish car would be a hell of a lot cheaper to insure .Look at all threads labelled 'where to insure Jdm.
Id still buy one thou ,lovely looking car.
