I work hard, pay my taxes and abide by the law.

They don't work, they don't pay taxes and they break the law.

I have a car I have to pay for and provide with petrol and if it breaks down I have to pay for the bus.

    They get free public transport.

A question. Am I the eejit here?

Unfortunately they are not emigrating as fast as our more fancied youth.

Why France btw? That's a bit, er, random.

Never dawned on you that the methadone clinics are moved into city centre so they need to travel..

Nobody should be entitled to free public transport and everyone should have to contribute something towards the cost of a journey, even if it's just a nominal 50c or similar.

You mean the drugs train? i.e the Luas red line? I thought that was it's purpose the last (and final) time I was on it.

And the clinics should be taken out of the city center. It's one thing having the indigenous suffer but why must the visitors too?

Is there some sort of junkie form I can fill out? And are they strict with checking up on you?

Definitely not, and I don't see why disabled or old people get it either. Now, I totally understand how a lot of old folks and disabled people can't work, thus they need support from the government, which I'm fine with. But they're already getting support from the government, so why can't they pay for their travel out of that? The only time I think free travel passes should be issued is if someone has an ongoing medical problem and lives a significant distance from their hospital. If free travel passes didn't exist, the fees for public transport could be cheaper. It's gotten to the point where I've found it's usually only a small bit more, if not the same price, to drive, rather than use public transport. It shouldn't be like that. But I definitely agree junkies shouldn't get one. Half the time they only go on the bus to do drugs anyway.

Again this is one thing I can't understand. The vast majority in this poll and in every day life will say they shouldn't get free travel. So why do they!? I can never understand that. The vast majority see something is clearly wrong yet it happens anyway. I'm confuzzled.

Erm they get bus passes (which work on Luas and trains). That is an absolute fact. That is free travel.

No, junkies should not get free travel but I'm sure their life isn't a laugh a minute either. I'd rather work and be able to pay my own way than live their sh*tty life.

Life is unfair, get over it.

Well if you want you can switch with them they are probably homeless, probably not on good terms with family, wrecking their bodies, probably uneducated, spend every cent and minute they have on their next high.

I really don't understand why people say stuff like am I a fool/idiot etc for working. Even if they get free travel their lives are not exactly great, which I know is mostly their own faults but I wouldn't really get upset if they did get free travel.

Anyway to answer your question, no no you are not an eejit you can probably afford a car which they cant, house which they cant, holidays which they cant and you will live a much better and fuller life then they will more than likely, so why worry about if a junkie gets a free bus trip or not really? Your tax money is getting wasted on stuff much worse than that.

Why France btw? That's a bit, er, random.

My Brother has a French OH and two half French kids. Fcukin' awful rabble them French.

They 'assist' enough 'asylum seekers' across the channel away from themselves. It's time we sent some undesirables their way. Cowards.

No. On the luas once i heard one show an inspector his free travel pass and his buddy said he was with him. Are they allowed to bring a friend for free? I really don't see why that's allowed!

To be honest I think it's to keep the conviction rates down. Honestly if they had to pay for it they probably wouldn't and then we have to pay someone to prosecute them and a lawyer to explain to a judge how they had a harsh upbringing. Then we need to pay a judge to leave them off

Yes, people who get Methadone from a clinic are entitled to one. Or maybe you'd prefer them of the methadone & back on the the streets of the cities robbing old ones handbags to by their next fix & leaving dirty needles around the place?

From the thread title I thought you were on about the junkies helping themselves to free travel by hijacking cars

I think it's more to do with the fact that your average pensioner has been working and paying money to the state for forty to fifty years. It's a benefit that comes with the pension, probably a vote buying exercise from years ago.

There is a contributory pension and a non-contributory pension. I think the former should get the travel pass, not the latter.

Nice unloaded poll you got there

    1 - sensible no
    2 - loony yes

What if I want to say yes, but for a different reason to the one in the poll?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yeah someone can go with them using the pass. I remember a few years ago waiting at the bus stop and a junkie told his friend to tell the driver he was his 'boyfriend' and he wouldn't have to pay the fare. I stood back waiting for him to tell the bus driver, and for both the junkie and the driver to burst out laughing but the driver just rolled his eyes and waved him on.

I also don't think it would keep conviction rates/legal costs down. In my experience bus drivers/inspectors will ignore anyone who looks like they might give them a bit of hassle and concentrate on giving tickets to students who might not have a travel card.

Have you ever seen the trouble caused when a junkie who doesn't have a bus pass tries to scam his way on a bus? +10 minutes of hassle and delay and they usually get on anyway as the bus driver can't be arsed arguing all day with a zombie.

    junkets for junkies

Why can't they walk, it's not like most of them have jobs to go to or much else to be doing. The exercise would do them good.

Most of their "clients" will be from the city centre so it is local to them.

Clinics exist outside the city centre too. Cherry Orchard in Ballyfermot must be at least 8km from the city centre
