State of Origin 2014

So, as has been said on the NRL thread, the origin games are just around the corner.

Always cheered for the Maroons, but their dominance has been such that maybe it would be good for NSW to register their first series win since 2006?

This could be their year though, possibly.

Slight concern is the fact first game still isn't a sellout, 8,000 tickets left. Doesn't sound like many, and will probably sell before game but normally they are gone in seconds. 250 aus dollars for the game might be too expensive for some.

New South Wales team: Jarryd Hayne, Brett Morris, Josh Morris, Michael Jennings, Daniel Tupou, Josh Reynolds, Trent Hodkinson, Aaron Woods, Robbie Farah, James Tamou, Ryan Hoffman, Beau Scott, Paul Gallen (captain). Res: Anthony Watmough, Tony Williams, Trent Merrin, Luke Lewis

Queensland squad: Billy Slater, Brent Tate, Greg Inglis, Justin Hodges, Darius Boyd, Johnathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk, Matt Scott, Cameron Smith, Nate Myles, Chris McQueen, Matt Gillett, Corey Parker. Interchange: Daly Cherry-Evans, Aidan Guerra, Ben Te'o, Josh Papalii. 18th man: Will Chambers. 19th man: Jake Friend.

I'm going for QLD series win 2 - 1, but it might be good for the series if NSW win this year.

The best three games in Rugby league , I think the Maroons do look stronger on paper but I have a gut feeling this just may be the year of the cockroach... cmon the blues

The Queensland backline is ridiculous; Slater, Inglis, Thurston and Cooper Cronk with Cherry-Evans interchanging. Wowza.

I'm going for a Queensland will as well.

It's on Premier Sport/Setanta Sports 1 at 1030 Wednesday morning. Bet365 will hopefully stream it on their website too.

    Perfect time

Good for me as I have a day off night shift, so I'll be having a couple of early beers!

Origin time again! Never miss it, not since I first saw it around 10 years ago at least. Can NSW stop this incredible Maroons run? Given the first and third games are in Brisbane, you'd have to think it'll be tough, but will be interesting at least.QLD raging favs for game 1 anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭skippymac6

Interesting that they Maroons are only 6 point favs for the first game. NSW have a very capable team themselves but that backline for Queensland looks scary good!

Right, any decent value bets to spend my 5 euro on?

Hope the game is close, NSW win against the odds would really shake things up. Hard to see past QLD yet again though.

For a fiver I'd be on NSW to win first half, Queensland to win full time at 7/1.

NSW might come out with a hiss and a roar and just be able to get a couple of early scores. Queensland though should up it in the second half, down or not.

Under 36 points too but that's a negative bet! :)

How is Maroon pronounced marown? Cheesy build up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Nice they got a karaoke singer to do the anthem. Tacky build up, thank goodness kickoff is here.

NSW missing a few tackles already. QLD scored already by look of it

4 nil to QLD after 6 and a half minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭skippymac6

NSW looking a lot better now. Making good ground up the middle.

QLD have undoubtably the better backline but with Cronk out now and the NSW pack motoring, it could be a nail biter!

NSW go in front 6 4 after 26,good turn around from the blues

    On report right decision.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Would that be given in superleague because the ball carrying arm hit the ground?

NSW well on top here after a poor start. QLD need to get a few sets here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Poor place kicking so far tonight.

Some game fellas! Some intensity. Josh Reynolds a lucky boy!! Jarrad Hayne is just immense as a footy player! He's virtually unstoppable on the ball, always creates havoc!

Hodgekinson feeling some nerves off the boot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭skippymac6

Yeah good point, it counts though all the same!

QLD need the half time break. They will come back in the second half but Cronk is a massive loss.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Morris brothers have started well. Great first half. Thought it was going to be a battering the way NSW started. Amazing the turnaround.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

All QLD again now, epic game up to now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭skippymac6

QLD seem to have all teh energy at the minute. Don't know how much longer NSW can hold out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not Playing Tiddlywinks Vinny

Jesus, QLD have really stepped up! Hayne again NSW saviour! How there wasn't a pen and 10mins in the bin for Hodges is amazing! When Hayne broke out from his own 20 Hodges clearly impedes deliberately on Jennings who wouldn't be caught if got the ball!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,513 ✭✭✭seanhynes

what a bloody exciting finish!! NSW were unreal containing them

Fantastic defence by NSW, sets up series brilliantly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Need another beer now, didn't know who I wanted to win by the end. NSW to win me a few quid (thanks Skippymac6 nearly a great tip), QLD for that comeback and always sort of supported them in the past, or NSW to breathe more life into series and make it really interesting last 2 games. Think if they had failed to hold on, series could have been QLD whitewash.

    3 weeks to recover.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭skippymac6

Yeah QLD nearly came back from the brink! I was half shouting for NSW just for the effort they put in. Typified by the Morris bros putting their bodies on the line. That tackle by Josh Morris when he was hobbling all over the place before and after and then Brett with the trysaver too after a shoulder injury in the first half. Serious watching and can't wait for the one in ANZ now!

The NSW home game. It's on the 18th June in Sydney.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not Playing Tiddlywinks Vinny

Josh Reynolds looks set to miss the next game with a Grade 2 dangerous throw tackle. Cronk is definitely out with Smith and Slater in doubt................Craig Bellamy will not be happy!!

Much better from NSW camp, gonna lose Reynolds (possibly Beau Scott for his part to in the tackle). I expect Brett & Josh Morris to be rested this wkend follow Brett's seperation and relocation of his shoulder and Josh picking up an ankle knock late on.

The Blues need everyone fit and ready to go. DCE gets a good prep in the No.7 jumper now so he'll be sharper and more composed than this morning! Expecting a major backlash!!

Laurie Daley should be demanding Jarrad Hayne be wrapped in Cotton Wool and placed on his couch gently to avoid any risk for Origin II!

Was Hayne man of the match (or whatever it might be called). Deserved it anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not Playing Tiddlywinks Vinny

WOW. Brett Morris is out for two months with a Broken Shoulder!! How did he play through the majority of the game?? That incredible!! Brother Josh out for 6-8 wks with torn PCL. Nate Myles (fractured hand), Gallen (damaged neck) both out for at least 2wks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Morris out is a big blow for NSW, immense in the first game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not Playing Tiddlywinks Vinny

Whose gonna come in? Will Hopoate, Josh Dugan, Pat Richards (to an extent) are all options. Freddie Fitler is a massive Hopoate fan! Wouldn't be surprised to see Jamal Idris and Hopoate replace the twins.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

I'd say Will Hopoate is a definite starter reading all the press, no idea who's going to fill the other Morris shoes though.

Need a seriously physically dominant player in the centre against GI, or someone whose exceptional in defense. Would sway towards Idris whose been very strong for the Panthers this year. Alternative (but would be madness to do) would be Hayne to the centre and Dugan to Fullback, that'd be definite last resort, Hayne' impact at No.1 is too immense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭padders67

unbelieveable about Morris' injury - these guys bring a whole new meaning to the word tough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not Playing Tiddlywinks Vinny

Another huge day in the NRL.

Josh Dugan with a hat trick to throw his name in the hate for either centre or wing spot for NSW. Played in the centre today for st. George. Dylan Walker really stuck his hand up for the Bunnies, finished the game playing Fullback, was outstanding!

Bad news for QLD fans. GI going off injured for the Bunnies, major doubt for Origin II. Daly Cherry-Evans was another Maroon who failed to complete a game this weekend leave with a knee injury.

Aye,most bookies do well paddys and 365 anyways, very scrappy game not much football being played ,about to go 4-0 Queensland

FT 6-4 NSW ,QLD 8 year streak finally ends!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭n32

Good win at long last for the Blues. Thaiday knocking on as he crossed the try line was a pivotal moment, at 0-10 I dont think NSW would have recovered given how many times they ve failed in recent years. This win should give the Blues great confidence and should lead to a great series next year. What a record by that Queensland team. 8 in a row was some achievement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭kirk buttercup

That was Amazing ,I have been waiting for that for a long time!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭skippymac6

The last game Bet365 didnt stream it and I missed it!

Anyone know if they are or are not going to stream it like they do with the usual NRL matches? (they also streamed the first game...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not Playing Tiddlywinks Vinny

If i was Dale Copley I'd be very disappointed not to be in the Maroons starting line up. The guys been exceptional all year. Qlds looked stale in the first game. I'd bring him in for Tate or even Hodges! Colpey and Ben Hunt have brought an X-Factor to the Broncos (okay, their not going the greatest) but they've been serious playing well!!

Qld need to freshen it up! GI to FB, Slater on a wing, Copley to centre, DCE for Cronk.

Can anyone stop Jarrad Hayne? That'll be the difference in a white wash and a 2-1 series win!
