    Updated last night.

Wasn't able to log in (froze at spinning ship).

Hope it will be sorted out before release - When they upgraded to beta 3.04 if I remember version number correctly I suddenly had problems logging in which lasted until the version just before Gamma. I hate it when they come out with a new version that disimproves it.

I was about to dip my toes into rare goods trading last night as well, since it seems to be a money spinner. I gather they have nerfed that in this patch though.

They have also fixed the "relog to refresh your asteroid" exploit for mining, which is good news.

Of much greater concern to me is that my reputation with federation is hostile as a consequence of bounty hunting and getting caught smuggling a load of "stolen" salvaged cargo cannisters. I have not really noticed any significant adverse effects from that reputation until now, probably there are less bulletin board missions available to me than would otherwise be the case.

However i understand now that since last nights patch a hostile reputation means you are attacked on sight in federation space, so that people are being destroyed as they launch from stations. I am a long way from the empire so i don't know how i will be able to even move one of my ships out of there.

I guess my only remedy will be to buy a sidewinder/eagle, sell my upgraded lakon 6 and cobra, before I launch, add fuel scoops and try to make it to empire without docking/dying. I am allied with the station where my cobra is currently parked despite being hostile with federation, so hopefully i will be able to dock there to sell the cobra.

If I am destroyed and take a free sidewinder will I spawn in the first station I spawned in again?

Anyway I have a Christmas party this evening so maybe they will have addressed this before i log in again.

Looking forward to a lakon 7 to replace my lakon 6, though i guess an asp is next before i buy one of those.

I think it is going to take a while to get our heads around the subtleties of the factions and reputations. I took a new mission last night as soon as I logged in which involved getting black boxes from a system but I think it was bugged as the system had no planets and had no USS' I suspect I'll have a big fine when I log back in today :)
Hardly off topic to ask about troubleshooting E: D in the E: D thread :D
    Will try, ty.
You said that you get it in other games too. rift problems can take a while to sort out so I was thinking of the non-rift users reading this. Instead of afterburner you can remove the left lens and press CTRL-F to show the framerate in game but it is risky as you might get dust in there.

Was totally looking forward to the x rebirth and it was a pole of poo. This looks good .

another update incoming just had the 5min warning.

rare goods tading is still profitable you just have to travel 150+ly away from the starting location. its also best to have as many as possible to make it very worthwhile. you on average get 15-17k profit per item at 150ly some rares more but 15-17k is a good guide to what you will get on say diso ma corn which is around 3-400 creds

Mrs got me an X52 Pro for Christmas so holding off playing this until then, cant wait so spend some quality free time over Christmas in Elite with the Rift and X52 Pro

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

    so tomorrow is launch.

I traded in my lakon 6 for an asp, disappointed to realise i will need to sell my shields in order to have a reasonable cargo capacity. Also kind fo disappointed that my lakon 6 was faster and possibly even more manoueverable with its a-class thrusters than my new asp.

I know a few upgrades will sort that out but I am going to have to learn to be more patient about changing ships until i have enough cash to upgrade the new one.

Still the asp is the ship i have wanted since i started, so nice to have it now. My plan was to submit to interdictions whenever they came up so i could earn some bounty credits, but i guess that goes out the window without shields.

I may just trade my way to 3 million or so then buy another lakon 6 and mod the asp as a combat platform. So at then least I can have a change of pace when i get tired of trading in an unarmed "6". Maybe move my combat rating off "harmless".

then i guess keep trucking away until i upgrade the 6 to a 7.

You're doing well man. I just bought a Cobra so I'm far behind. I would like a federal dropship or Python and I'm hoping we get some new mission types on launch tomorrow

never sell your decent ships to trade in, keep them i have a pretty much maxed out cobra, im nearly to the asp with my assets and creds, but i would rather get the extra creds built up than sell my cobra.
one bad decission or accident when your on a shoe string budget after upgrading and you could loose the lot and be back to square one.

the ammount of threads ive seen over on the elite forums where people made a mistake and lost the lot after getting greedy and not having the capital to rebuy after a loss, is quite amazing.

Yeah, I always give myself plenty of headroom. We've all done it though, bought a new ship and expect it to fly like the sidewinder and only discover it doesn't have the same braking distance just before you hit the side of a station :)

can honestly say ive not had a accident since i upgraded my cobra, i did hit the boost though as i was going out of the dock and smashed right into the side and blew up lol also had a close escape with a asteriod that i got glued too somehow

Living the dream brother! Enjoy :)

Parcel Motel have had mine for a week thanks to Amazon fking up and not putting my name and PMID number on the box. However, they said they'd have it out to me in a couple of days 6 days ago. I'm chasing them up cause there's something else in the package that I need for a friend and it's been far too long at this stage.

Yeah i have done that before. thing is I had a lakon 6 and an upgraded cobra and i figures the asp would outperform both of them - but i didn't realise that the cargo capacity I had read online included 32 cargo in the shield slot.

I didn't mind not having weapons in my lakon but shields are pretty useful.

I had a disagreement over right of way with a type 9 in my lakon 6 as i was exiting and he was entering the station. Fortunately i was on the "cheap" leg of my normal trade route - so I had a full cargo hold of relatively cheap stuff rather than imperial slaves. Even so it was a useful reminder of the need for "working capital".

I find imperial space very useful - because slaves are great to supplement the cheap end of a trade route. Ideally i want to move superconductors one way and slaves the return leg, currently i am on minerals to a refinery and slaves back to the mines. Slaves earning >1k per unit.

    Aha

Found it, hiding away in PC Gaming, trots off to page 1...

Damnit just bought it there. Add it to my collection. Haven't played a space sim in a while so thought i'd give it a go.

    Launches at noon.

For anyone who has not been in beta: up until now download speeds have been impossibly slow, maybe they will torrent this one. I assume it will be a relatively large file as well, I guess rather than patch our existing client we will all downloand a release version from scratch.

I intend to get my kids to start the download for me when they get home from school.

i am still doing rare goods runs. last patch made more stock available, so its easy to stock up my cobra with 32 tonnes from my starting point in lave i do a round run leesti orrere zaonce diso then make the run to sell. my last run this morning before the servers went down at 11 netted me 594,348 creds profit. the main downside is doing 150+ly after picking goods up to sell them.

Intersting, I have never done any rare goods trading. I had understood it was nerfed to the point it was no longer viable, but maybe i will give it a whirl.

Only problem is that I am hostile to federation having been scanned with a cargo of salvaged goods from a USS - which somewhat limits my ease of movement being attacked on sight in fed systems.

I understand that was the result of a bug which caused you to incur the full negative rep penalty for each unit of cargo rather than one negative rep penalty for the cargo hold. I had been hoping the launch would involve a negative rep reset but it doesn't appear that has happened. So i guess i will try to stay in imperial space for the time being and avoid salvage like the plague.

this might help you a little if your planning on doing some
shame you cant do the lave area runs though they are profitable

There are a list of livestreams on the Elite Dangerous front page: https://www.elitedangerous.com/

For youtube I'd recommend Isinona He flies with Flight Assist off too which is not easy!

I've spent the whole day trying to download Elite. The launcher logs in and loads up fine but syncing the files is painfully slow. I'm about three fifths there but most of the time it shows no downloading, or 0MB/s. I think most people are playing the game OK but it has been a very disappointing launch for me. I guess I've waited long enough for this game but I will just have to keep waiting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭Sarn

There's something wrong there. I came home this evening and had it downloaded and installed in about 15 minutes (UPC 120 Mbit). Haven't gone beyond creating my character yet.

I am also UPC (i think 150mbs but not certain) and generally i have found downloading relatively small patches very slow, it often slows to 0mb/s. Then it will suddenly accelerate and download a large portion quickly, then back to a crawl again.

Just leave the computer running and it will get there eventually.

Today's update seemed pretty small to me. Had it down in about 10min or thereabouts. Back to the Trade Grind!

Erm....anybody know any good trade routes out there? :)

I opened a ticket so will wait to see. There is a thread on the Elite D forums here.

I had to download the full client which is about 3.5 GB. Must just be good luck getting a good connection.
