One called to the front door today. I just didn't bother answering. They stayed there over 5 minutes though. I found that a bit odd.

I find it hard to believe this.I wonder if the story is spoof.
I haven't seen a FG person canvassing in my area.
They are paying young lads to deliver their literature through the letterboxes.

So why they don't eh... unsign it. They have the power apparently, the overwhelming majority

Here's the thing and I do't like to quote my own post; They have used the "overwhelming majority and mandate from the people ad nauseum " tagline to bulldoze everything they want and fobb off anybody who disagrees with them (for Enda Kenny to never give interviews), but they never use that excuse when it comes to things that we can't do OR maybe more honestly won't do, frightened to do and must do.

And if any government (who love power btw) refuses to use its majority to make the country a better place to live and do the obvious things (especially one with an overwhelming majority), then changes will never in any subsequent adminstration and that's a bleak thought.

The Franklin D Roosvelot scthick of a conservative man making the hard decisions is nauseating.

You're not nearly the man he was Enda. Not even there

Youre not the first person I heard saying that.
Why would they wait more than 20seconds????

Next time, when they call, answer the door and use violence, that will teach em, teach em all mmmmmmhahahahahhahahahaha!

Is this your 1st time encountering mister renegademaster? His threads are comedy gold.

Not at all. But I'm tired of his waffle and just once thought he might actually stand up and man up enough to answer a straight question.

Comedy gold? More sad than funny in my mind.

That makes no sense whatsoever. We are not paying for canvassing. They are. It is not publicly funded.
    Explain please.

Have you any idea how local council candidates fund their campaigns? Obviously not!

Pat Rabbite admits they are taking a lot of flak on the doorsteps.

He's very fearful the various charges and taxes will bring down the Govt before 2016.

Also very very critical of the USC. electioneering Pat. Too little too late.

I do not condone violence in any way shape or form. But if a FG or Labour candidate came to my door they would get a fair amount of abuse from me but I wouldn't hit them.
The whole way they are going about water charges is wrong. Also the household charge and property tax and how it was implemented was ridiculous. I spent about 2 hours and 3 phone calls to help my parents fix a simple issue with theirs. Its like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
Also they should be increasing benefits to old age pensioners not decreasing them. I got mad when they took away the phone benefit from the household benefits package because a lot of old age pensioners rely on the phone.
    Rant over:mad:

From the looks of this story Olliesgirl, it might be that you should be protecting yourself from potential violence from FG canvassers...

They signed the country up.to the bank guarantee, not FG, not Sinn fein, not the socialist party.....Fianna Fail.
FF had us in for €86bn. FG have us in for €177bn. Also, as has been pointed out a billion times over. "Not one more cent........"

and it was fine gael and labour that shunned the chance to renage on the bailout by changing illegal bonds to more legal methods of repayment and kicked the can so far down the road it's our chilrens children that are expected to pay for it all!!
Baloney! What a cop out! What lie - even one - did this particular person tell? Just one that you personally attribute to him specifically. All this internet warrior bull and then you either have no idea that he lied about anything or haven't the moral strength to commit yourself publicly to any statement that might come back and bite you.
    Waffle of the highest order.

how could i commit myself publically to a statement when i wasn't even there. nobody could possibly expect me to be able to say anything is fact when it comes to this whole incident but everyone can make their mind up after reading through the thread as it now seems more likely the young lad was assaulted by the canvasser.

Unless someone on the thread was present at the incident reading through the thread cannot possibly show that its seems more likely that the "young lad" was assaulted. You are the one that said the councillor was trying to get elected, which he isn't and that he was lying, which you have failed to prove.

    Why would you abuse them?

Why not give them your solutions for balancing the books? Wouldn't that be far more productive?

We run a monthly deficit of one billion, I'm sure you have ingenious ideas to plug that gap, do you?

Pensioners gave gotten off extremely light as gave most welfare recipients as usual. Paying 52% marginal tax rate, it is the worker who has arguably suffered the most, and I blame labour for that.

But I'll put up with that until we can start to pay our way again. After water charges the rest of the gap has to be made up with either a general uptake in the economy or if that doesn't occur, then welfare supports and services must be looked at.

Yeah sure, because that would have solved all of the countries problems, how would you have done this? Explain in detail how you would have reneged on the bonds and sorted this country out in less than 3 years. What measures would you have implemented so that we would be in a better position than we are now?

Yet you blatantly state as fact in the thread title that the gentleman in question was "telling lies while trying to get elected" ! Are you saying now that he wasn't lying and the thread title is just another piece of sensationalist ****e that you are well known for?

Mr Deegans own words were reported as “I tried to restrain him up against the car,” Deegan said, adding that he sustained the superficial cuts to his face in the ensuing scuffle.

That sounds to me like he got scratched while laying his hands upon the irate member of the public. (the man had knocked election material out of his hand, i dont know if thats a justification for violence, i'm sure a judge will decide.) i think i would walk away from such a situation rather than "restraining" someone.

It's shocking behaviour from whoever layed the first hands.

    Ahem.....

Take a look at the national debt. Tell me again how Fianna Fail lost us hundreds of billions in the past couple of years.

oh was it Fine Gaels fault that the banks failed and the IMF were called to bail us out and the implementer of that bank guarantee disaster, the cause of most of the pain today - BTW are the economic figures and outlook not better today than when Cowen left office ?

Fine Gael may not be great , but they are way better than that perennially corrupt party - Fianna Fail.

One thing I have learned from this Government is that election promises mean absolutely nothing. Lies are told without a blink of an eye and then accepted by many posters who support the same Govt parties.

"Sure isn't that what you tend to do during an election process" - Pat Rabbitte.

He represents a party (Fine Gael) who told lies (quiet a few, in fact too many to mention) so as they could give themselves a chance to be elected ( and claim ministerial pensions, which they so richly deserved for all their years of perseverance in waiting in the wings to be elected, especially as the alternative was to cancel their leave of absence from their teaching jobs that was giving them a lesser pension)
As opposed to which party that wont lie or be deceitful? What are they meant to do, tell the truth and stay in opposition for eternity or be wiped out?! Their election manifesto is effectively a shopping list, once in coalition, compromise is the order of the day... Its easy to say we will do x y z in opposition or for us to say it here anonymously on boards, actually having to do it and stand over it, is a totally different matter!

anyway most of the moaners or the ones verbally or physically assaulted, have been taken care of as far as I'm concerned! What did they want or expect no cuts after the last several year sh*tstorm? LOL! They have gotten off lightly...

Go to Germany, the UK, the states, see how you live on welfare!

nope, i do, i've attended economics nights explaining in great detail what happened up to just after the late night dail fiasco where illegal bonds were changed to more legal methods of repayment.

it's you that hasn't a clue of what's going on if you're insisting i lay out a complete plan on an internet forum or else i know nothing
