    Yes, they're palette swaps.

    Sheik/Zelda are seperate characters (as are Samus/Zeru Suit Samus in Brawl).

    I'm also surprised he didn't switch to cammy or yun. He has done in the past when facing dhalsim. I think it's a bit of a mental block for him at this stage.

    the combo's the same except cr.lp > cr.mp isn't a 1f link anymore, maybe that's what you're feeling
