Have you not been on lately? You have to collect your lights :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭tossy

So my sister just got a letter saying that her details have been passed onto the guards as the car is out of tax since the end of july, but she is telling me on the reverse there is a section to complete and declare it as been off the road/not in her ownership for that point.

Anyone know anything about this ? i thought the days of declaring a car off the road after the fact were gone.

They were somewhere else the week before but we moved them. It's been a kind of running gig around here :)

I think I could even live with the tax rates but only if you could pay it monthly as they are about to introduce in the UK.
It may work out a tiny bit more expensive but I think a lot of people will find it easier to pay 100e or so a month to have a bigger engined car than take a huge hit all at once.

The idea of been able to pay tax for any day you are using the car - ie 10 days tax would be interesting too.

Isn't it Austria and Switzerland where you pay tax by the day - or have I got that completely wrong :(

Car outside apartment puffing plumes of white smoke.
Chatted to driver she said it just lost power. Was a 1.2 corsa petrol from enterprise hire car. Shagged I guess.
141 reg, surprised to see that kind of failure on a new car.

That car is absolute crap, I had the same model from Enterprise, would really make you hate driving.

Had one from enterprise in the UK last year for a weekend too. Did the job but was as interesting as watching paint dry. Although I liked the cruise control

Tax on a 3l+ would then be 4.95 daily which doesn't seem nearly as bad :)

It'd be impossible to administer, it'd make more sense to go down the tax on fuel line rather than a daily rate.

That being said, if there was a weekend tax, at 1/3 the monthly rate, that could be used from 9 pm on a Friday to 6 am on a Monday I'd say they'd make a decent bit extra. I know I'd be running both alfas as opposed to just the gtv at the moment.

Caught on the road with weekend tax outside of that time frame and it's a 1000 euro fine, failure to pay leads to seizure by the sheriff. Allow the go safe vans to check for tax, anpr scans your number plate, shows that it has no tax/wrong tax and you get sent a fine. Afterall it'd allow the guardians of the peace to do just that.

A lot of the a-b people don't realise how many of us there are out there with more than one car, but we can only afford to have one road legal at any one time.

God no, even if the pay was twice what it is currently, I wouldn't put up with the ****e that they do. People wanting free houses and moaning about no jobs and wanting buggies and a bouncy castle for kids communion. And then have every journalist examining my every mood. Feck that crap.
