The FF logo is getting slightly bigger. It's still rather small, but you no longer need a magnifying glass to make it out.

Once they are printed by companies in this state giving employment to people here i have no problem with them

They have a new logo too..."A New Generation".

Personally if we could ship every single one of them to Europe, not to the parliament, but somewhere like Calais, id be happy.

I'd be more concerned about them being secured properly so they don't cause a hazard and being taken down on time. Horrible eyesores.

Dublin City Council election postering guidelines.
Where Dublin City Council staff become aware of posters that are considered to be causing a hazard they will be removed and disposed.

Please note that our Customer Services Centre will handle complaints of any posters that are deemed to be causing a hazard to motorists or pedestrians and they are contactable on telephone number: 2221000 or email customerservices@dublincity.ie

The following guidelines may be helpful in ensuring that posters are not a hazard to the public:

Posters should be erected at a minimum height of 2.3 metres above footpaths, cycle tracks or any area to which pedestrians have access
Posters should not be erected on lamp standards with overhead line electricity feed, traffic signal poles, bridge parapets, overpasses, pedestrian bridges, or roadside traffic barriers
Posters should not obscure statutory road signs or traffic/pedestrian signals in any way
Posters should be securely fixed to poles with cable ties or similar material to facilitate removal without damage to the poles
Please note that cable ties be should be removed when the posters are being taken down.

Now you can report any election posters (in the Dublin City area) that are in contravention of the guidelines.
I post the above link in the hopes that people will complain about inappropriately erected posters and that at some point in our future we might have this BLIGHT* removed from our landscape.

Is there rules about removing other people's posters? There was a poster advertising a local event near me which somehow made its way onto the ground and was replaced by a campaign poster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,590 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

Don't know how your supposed to vote for any of these people. The only time I've even seen or heard of them was on their poster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭Clandestine

Is anyone else amazed at the cheek of some of these politicians (potentially?) at putting up their campaign posters early? If these people can't follow a simple instruction like "wait one more f***ing day before you put up your posters", does anyone think they would be suited for a job like this? They should be banned instead of fined.

Why do they put them up at night? We were driving home at about 11pm last night, a guy was up on a ladder, in the dark, and he dropped one.

Went right in front of the car!

As I mentioned earlier it's to get the best poles and positions for putting up posters. All the parties were postering last night. The shinnerbots are like a well-oiled machine when it comes to sticking up election posters (and if one is to believe the rumours - in taking posters from other parties down).

That Cavan fella nearly became president that time and didn't put up any posters.
    Conclusion: Posters useless.

Just out for a walk earlier, I see the posters have blossomed overnight. I saw one enormous poster which appeared to be just left against railings. It may be that someone chopped it down, I suppose.

Yes, it is illegal to interfere with them as they are private property. Usually what might happen is that a candidate will have an agreement with the person who has the poster up to advertise a public meeting or the likes (usually from the same party) to replace it with an election poster.

I see that there are plenty of posters at junctions / traffic lights around Dublin, those will be torn down as they are breaking the law.

Good to know. The poster they took down was nothing to do with any political party so I'll be taking some photos on my way home this evening and sending them on to the County Council.

Most importantly, and decent looking ones on the posters?

Saw a potentially hot shinner called Lynn but I had a proper look while stopped at traffic and was disappointed. Live in south Dublin, but will be scouting further down the country at the weekend.

I really don't understand this. I put up and take down alot of posters and its alot easier to just clip the cable ties other wise you have to rip the poster off which is alot harder and we can reuse them to paint new posters on them for other events after the election.

Also worth pointing out that there are alot of smaller parties and independents with people who have never put up posters before I myself blocked a traffic sign and only realised in a car going by the next morning. Report them to the offending party and it be moved ASAP.

Also night time is the best time to put them up because there is less traffic, less pedestrians and no buses

They were caught on camera doing that in the north a few years ago. Blamed it on rogue elements.

    1. Have a Chauffer driven SUV festooned with your personal logo and party preferably
    2. Have a powerful loudspeaker system on the SUV roof
    3. Recline on view in the back, as the poster candidate with your favorite iPhone / Android / Nokia in your hand
    4. Pretend to be ensconsed in serious business conversation
    5. Drive around where all your own posters have been stuck up. Really important.

I was working down in Limerick today and there were a dopey number of election posters up -and a fair few killinaskully types on em. I wanted a big marker, to scribble on em, "I'm a crook, but I'm your crook" with a speech bubble.

Cable ties drive me bonkers. I may even be mad enough to photograph every lamppost in the village to know who to complain to when they're not taken down again. Because that would be considerably less effort than trying to shimmy up a lamppost to take them down myself.

Kenny Egans posters were up yesterday anyway. Possibly longer.

EDIT: Actually, I came back from Cork on Monday evening at around 8 and his posters were on these railings then (its the only time I've been at that junction in the last 2 -3 weeks anyway)https://maps.google.ie/maps?q=green+isle&hl=en&ll=53.312245,-6.397865&spn=0.000002,0.00096&sll=53.312326,-6.397668&sspn=0.000356,0.00096&t=h&radius=0.02&hq=green+isle&z=20&layer=c&cbll=53.312245,-6.397865&panoid=L8rQkQftT5sUQJec9GVadw&cbp=12,76.08,,0,12.35

They'll take the fun out of driving having to look at mug-shots every which way :(

Some of us like the natural beautiful scenery surrounding us and not having to look at these over-sized mug-shots!

I've more respect for those campaigning with no election posters! I'd shake their hands no bother so I would.

    Thanks very much,

Once they are printed by companies in this state giving employment to people here i have no problem with them

    They are

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Remember a few years back there was a big campaign to shop local?

I had a look at the poster and at the bottom the printers had their usual details (name, address, etc). The posters were printed in Northern Ireland!

No practicing what they preached for that campaign

I think it's pretty ironic that today and tomorrow the Gardai are having a 'blitz' on mobile phone use because it distracts drivers and causes them to take their eyes off the road

On the same day, a bazillion election posters pop up that are specifically intended to get drivers to take their eyes off the road.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭Pumpkinseeds

I really hate the blanket blitz of posters some candidates are doing. Mr Kelly in Clare, you putting your posters on every single lampost on the roads means I will not even consider giving you my vote. I do not need to see someones face on every single lamp post and I mean every single lamp post.

It just looks like a tactic to prevent other candidates from putting their posters up. Idiocy. I don't even know who he is, never heard of him before and after the election we won't hear of him again, until next time he runs and blankets our town with his face:mad:

Yep. And anyone who put their posters up last week with a piece of A4 paper stuck on to advertise a conveniently-timed meeting can feck right off.

Best solution here, use red ties for Labour, green for FF, blue for FG and so on. If they're left up after the last day for removal fine them.

Really, people getting teary eyed over posters, concerned about their illegality?

What the **** is wrong with the internet....
