The Argos one doesn't use pads in the way you're thinking edburg. It comes with 2 "bonnet" yokes that you wouldn't wipe your arse with.

I'm talking about the older ones. I haven't seen anything similar to the proper one from Argos so I could very well be wrong!

Oh aye the 2 handle jobs for 45 euro definitely not worth bothering with.

Had to look but they do this challenge thing now which looks like it takes foam pads.

Probably cheapest you get legally lol, should do learner detailer proud until they get the itch and go for the better machines.

I love mine. You can clay the entire car in a fraction of the time it would usually take, causing no marring and leaving the paint as smooth as glass.

What do you use as a lubricant ?

I use a high concentration of car shampoo to warm water in a spray bottle, and I use copious amounts during the claying. I also soak the mitt in a bucket of warm water and shampoo for about 10mins before starting to soften up the clay, I soak it frequently during the process too, it might not be needed but I haven't marred or damaged my paint yet so I stick to it.

A good tip I got was to start on the glass first, it'll break in the mitt so to speak while not damaging the glass.

Very misty/damp day out today - I'd like to give the motor a quick snowfoam and then wash, there's no way I'll be able to dry it properly - should I still attempt to dry it or just rinse and let the rain do whatever it wants?

Car has a week old coat of 845 on it at the moment.

In other news, I just got a gallon of iso alcohol :)

You know, the weather here in Cork for the past two weeks or so has cheesed me right off. It's been too wet and damp to do any detailing (I'm not pushing the Escort out of the garage into the rain). Then today, the bloody showers means I cant get anything applied and finished.

The bloody weather also has the grass growing like crazy and as I type this, another shower has interrupted me cutting the grass. I want to get the lawns done before I break out the new batch of goodies from Detailing Shed.

    Still no detailing done......

I know Saturday was lovely but I buggered off to Killarney for the weekend. Saturday was lovely down there, sitting down by the meeting of the waters, watching the world go by.

That g3 clay mitt is very good, used mine at the weekend. I didn't believe the hype until I tried it. There's no better way to clay your car, and I had forgotten what a good clean clayed car looked like. It should last a few more cars before the material starts to fade.

They are a great job, used one a few weeks ago on my sisters car and was very happy with how easy the process was.
    well worth the investment.

How much was green henry or whatever he's called?

And where did you get him? If you don't mind me asking. Interested in getting one if they're not too pricey.

How do they work, pour the solution in or what?

I've mine a few years got it here: https://www.cleanstore.co.uk/products/Product.asp?ID=206

To use the wet suction vac function, use a small amount of detergent in warm water. If it gets too foamy it will cause all sorts of suction problems and you'll have to rinse out the machine.

A quick clip showing it doing it's thing:

Looking at some of the other extraction vacuums you might find the karcher one less fidly as the attachments can come loose a bit on the gve370.
https://www.cleanstore.co.uk/products/Product.asp?ID=14105 This one would be more hard wearing I'd imagine and better for frequent use if cleaning lots of cars, vans, etc.

There's a tank inside that you fill the solution with yeah I'll post photos for you tomorrow I originally thought there would be more pieces! They are kinda steep I got mine for about 300 (could be wrong) I've used mine countless times since I got one so worth it for me

I bought George on eBay from north as it was only used a couple of times and person was stuck for money so picked it up for €250. Great handy machine use it as vacuum for house along with any work needed on cars.

And it does a proper pro finish when used? Lifting all stains etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 920 ✭✭✭Ron Burgundy II

I got a wet vac in Lidl/Aldi a few years back. Great machine, but it can't store any solution like the George. I think Lidl/Aldi have coming up soon.

The majority of the time yes, but for heavier stubborn stains it will need a second pass with it.

Yeah have that, great value for money. Good for regular vacuuming, with the small nozzle, but no use for wet vacuuming.

I was looking at that this morning too, wonder how good it would be for €79,
would only use it for car/carpet cleaning so the the suction power would need to be good.

I've found that it's the pre treatment before actually using the machine (not sure if others agree) I rarely just use the machine on a stain, I'd use a mild apc and a suitable brush depending on the material and I just use the extractor to remove what I've loosened, hope that makes sense, only time I would just use the extractor is on seats that are soiled from use (as opposed to stains on clean seats)

Well, I won't be putting a photo up of my detailing supplies as they are spread from hell to breakfast. The chemicals are in one large storage box in the back of the garage, with the cloths, etc in another. The power washer is under the bench, with the DA in its box "somewhere" under the Carcoon (the carcoon is deflated at the moment). The wet vac is in the lean-to, along with the milk crates. The step ladders and brush handles (for strapping the Wheel Woolies onto to reach the middle of the roofs and under the skylights) are in the corner just inside the garage door. The planks for the platform are up the back thrown next to the scaffolding........

Not your conventional detailing equipment and storage locations. Then again, I just don't do cars.....
