Bad interview, terrible managerial manners

So today I had an interview with very well known company.
This company in particular has 5 step process for entering employment.
so basically, it's an online test, followed by a Reasoning Test, then you go to the HQ for 70min multiple choice test and if successful you go for 2 further interviews.
Now, I had reached the stage of going to the HQ. I was quite nervous as I would really like this job as it's exactly what I would be aiming for (I have a job now but want a change).
Test is handed out to us, there are roughly 8 of us in the room.
Timer set and away we go.
the first questions I start bombing it, going fantastically well.
Then I start nearing the end of the first section and I get extremely nervous.
Started losing my concentration and bollocking up the answers.
Kept on at it anyway until the very end.
I knew I hadn't done well and was preparing to never see the place again.
The women collects the tests and asks us all to wait 20mins while they are checked.
She comes back and in front of everyone starts reading out the names of the people who passed. As expected I hadn't passed.
But to add salt to the wound, she proceeded in telling everyone that I had failed.
She then comes over to where I'm sitting (I'm extremely embarrassed at this stage) to shake my hand and once again tell me I had failed and try again next year.
She then asked me to leave the room as she was now going to explain the interview process to the successful candidates.
So I'm sitting here now both mortified that I ballsed it up and pi33ed off at how I was treated.
Common courtesy/discretion seems to non existent with certain people.
Has anyone ever experienced such a situation?
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to vent a bit.
    Thanks :)

    Chin up. :)

If that's the way they do things you're better off not getting the job.

This is by far my favourite idea... I'll need a truck load of petrol though.

Yeah I'd agree with you, just a pity is all as the money would be double what I'm earning now.
But hey-ho you live and learn.

I consider posting in AH as quite an achievement.

Sounds like a bad dream. Utterly stupid and unprofessional behaviour on their part. Maybe that individual has issues and is on some kind of power trip but you say it is a well known org and you would expect standard practices for hiring.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet - who wants to work for an outfit starting off with people on that basis. The 'blank' and panic you got can happen us all - dust down and chin up for the next prospect.

Anyway - what is the point of a state education/assessment system if entities like this are going to try to duplicate it all? I mean we all mistrust the govt at times but that is taking it all too far. All reasoning, literacy, and numeracy is tested in the Leaving Certificate.

I just wanted to try something new, a few friends have gotten employment with this company and told me to give it a go.
But no, I wouldn't apply again.
I honestly would've reacted. Something along the lines of " shove it where it don't shine darlin".

I wouldn't, especially as I looked enough like an ass as it was. At the end of the day I still have a job to go to so it wasn't the end of the world.
Just shocked me that she seemed this was a normal way to let someone down.
    Utter gob****e.

Sounds like a geeky version of the x Factor to me.

OP, you should have told them about your sick granny who you have looked after for the past 4 years and that getting this job would mean so much to you and her.

On the x factor a good sob story always gets you in to the next round.

I don't know if I can name the company, if the mods give me the OK then I'll post the name. If I can't post it then just PM me and I'll tell you the company.

Pretty abysmal stuff by the company.

Logical thing would be to give everyone a 'candidate number'. Do the test, explain the next steps and then give out the list of successful candidates on a sheet or post out results individually.

Bullet dodged by the sounds of things.

In my opinion, such an in depth exam wasn't necessary.
Answers correctly to questions doesn't mean you will be the best worker ever.
OK, that is their policy but for the love of God to belittle those that are unsuccessful is just staggering.

Sounds like you got off lightly, why work for a disgusting company like that - and what type of power tripping b*tch was she anyway ?

This, send the results out with the possible interview invitation or take each one to a separate room to notify them.
No embarrassment involved and no one has to know if you got it or not.

There have been times when on threads when people have mentioned companies in bad taste and they have had them removed.
I may be wrong, but I believe a mod needs to give the go-ahead in order to name and shame a company.
Just google who owns those brands and you'll know the company.

If you are that sensitive and precious I would expect that the test did it's job. You need to get to grips with facing up to reality when you meet it. You failed. Why on earth does that need to be kept a secret ? It's not medical information for goodness sakes.

Have you read what I've posted?
I'm not complaining about the test, I already admitted that I had failed and that I was annoyed at myself about it.
I haven't kept it a secret, I merely didn't want to name the company without approval as I've said many times.
Please tell me how I am being sensitive and precious? I was embarrassed, if you wouldn't be then fair play to you.
Maybe you should apply to that company, sounds like you'd fit right in.

It's already been revealed by saying which brands they manufacture...

OP, I wouldn't go trying next year given that you've just named them on the internet. They could see it, if you had followed the smart move and emailed HR you might get a chance.

I remember going for a part-time job interview with a large budget chain supermarket when I was about sixteen. Brought into the canteen by the store manager, place was spartan (concrete walls, table, two chairs, and a fridge). Proceeded to ask me the usual guff questions when the lights went out, followed by the interviewer waving his arms around the place and asking me to help out until the lights came back on.

So glad I didn't get that job. :pac:

Chin up OP, better off not working for a crowd like that.

Best strategy is to make them look like a cnut first then! That'll learn 'em :D

Ahh no, seriously OP, that's fairly standard practice nowadays, hell I remember going through the same process myself numerous times, and that's about ten years ago now. I too got the same treatment you did, but I didn't take it personally.

It's embarrassing and of course humiliating when you get turned down for any job, but I've heard of more stringent practices in interview processes, and far more unprofessional conduct towards unsuccessful candidates.

I don't think they were purposely trying to be cnuts in all fairness, perhaps that was their idea of professional courtesy.

    dunno about that.
I've have some knobs interview me but I've never had that public deminision to the humilation.
I did a group test for an internal job before - but was informed by email of my failure not on front of the others.
