100% Whey Protein?

The prices I've seen are about €63 for the 2.27KG tub.

Comes from Ireland and is most expensive in Ireland.
Cant blame peepes shopping in the uk given the difference in price.

Seriously upwards of 60 quid for 5lbs of protein,that to me is just not worth it.

Myprotein uses whey protein concentrate from Glanbia so you can be happy that your kind of buying Irish and that you're using the same concentrate that (probably) goes in the Gold Standard!

Can you mix in creatine with your protein shake or do they have to be taken seperately?

As well the most common pack I see people buy is: protein, vitamins, bcaa & creatine. And obviously you can take them at the same time.

More involved often buy beta - alanine & glutamine but that depends on workout type - and wallet capacity I suppose.

Anyway lads always go for good product - not most expensive. Those guys in big companies just sit on money and laugh at us.

Whatever we might say ON is ans will be big in Ireland.

Last time I talked with our ON sale rep he said still 6 out of 10 tubs sold in IE comes from ON.

It's not so much on-line as walk-in shops, Tesco etc. Prices in such shops are just crazy as you know - still people buy tonnes of supplements there.

I understand the popularity but I feel that much of it is generated by people who use the product rather than because of the products quality itself. Everyone says ON is great, very few prepare I know actually know why.

I had a guy playing in a band in a bar I work in tell me the great deal he got for a tub of ON two weeks ago, only €37.....for the 1kg tub! This guy wouldn't know a protein supplement from his elbow I imagine, though he is an active person.

Myprotein impact whey mixes and tastes almost the same as On and has the same protein content for half the price (if not less). I only discovered this last week!

Spot on. There are plenty, cheaper brands. ON tube isn't even 1 kg. It is 0.9 kg.

I am right now on activlab protein shake - blend. And chocolate flavour cause I am addicted to chocolate.

By the way - how many people really need to take isolates? Majority of us will be ok with cheaper blend version (tested on myself).

I see starters taking isolates, often double the blend price. Why ?

Maybe they are using it immediately after a workout which is supposedly the optimal window for taking that kind of protein (according to an interview with Kai Greene and George Farah)(that isn't necessarily my opinion).

You are actually on the right track. That is the idea, though I understand the anabolic window is of approx half an hour and isolates go into blood stream more or less in half an hour. One can argue from user to user.

I believe amino - acid in drinkable form taken through the last 15 minutes of workout are the better answer. You can be sure then you will maximise the effect.

There is e.g. product from Gaspari Nutrition called Aminolast.

Still the whole idea of anabolic window is questioned by some researchers. They would even say it closes after few minutes only.

There is no such thing as an 'anabolic window', unless you are talking about the 36-48 hours after resistance training. Please be careful what you write in case more impressionable beginners happen to be reading the thread.

I have to say the mix-ability and taste of ON stuff tends to be slightly better..

Definitely not worth the premium though, myprotein / bulkpowders are my go to places now

I like that the MyProtein unflavoured products don't taste good. It makes them seem more functional to me. Sci-Mx banana flavour whey was a little too nice, I used to make pancake batter with it.

You should try mint chocolate flavour so (not sure what brand but not big one). It's awful.

What is gaspari like ? I can get a stack with protein, pre workout, bcaa, creatine and i think glutamine for €100.

I'm only a small chap training bjj and mma so trying to eat right mainly and want to get a good stack as well. I fight at 57.5 kg now but want to compete at 64 kg so every little helps !!

Well glutamine will only help people with severe physical trauma such as burns or muscular wounds (caused by stabbing etc) or with diseases which waste muscle, such as AIDS. BCAAs have never been shown to be of any benefit to anyone who isn't getting enough protein through the rest of their diet (and 'enough protein' may be a lot less than you'd expect). Most protein sources already contain glutamine and BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine) but whey protein is especially hiigh in all of them so if whey protein is a part of your diet there is absolutely no benefit to buying them, unless of course you've been stabbed. If you want to increase your weight you could be best spending the money you've saved on extra calories.

Gaspari protein tastes good. In terms of effect, I can't say it is more or less effective than any other brand I've tried. Can anyone?

I've only tried the unflavoured impact whey but it mixes easily and does the job. Can't say what the flavours are like, with a shot. **** the taste for that value!

With any brand to really decide if they are good or bad you would need to try few products/flavours. And that would be about taste. How efficient they are might be another thing.

I personally love chocolate flavour in scitec nutrition blend whey.

Isolate can be digested a lot easier and is lower in lactose so can help people in that sense. The whole "OMG IT GETS DIGESTED SO MUCH QUICKER I WANT IT AS HYDROLYSED AND ISOLATISED AS POSSIBLE" however is a load of bollocks and is just marketing
