We didn't take the posters down, but someone did. I live up that way so i'll head up the Ongar road this evening and sweep up any cable ties in to the trailer.

Credit where it's due, I'll be on the lookout tomorrow morning :pac:

What I said was, when we cable them in a certain way, we cut them at a place where they don't fall out of the posters, however those posters were gonee by yesterday morn - we didn't take them down ourselves so i'll take a scoot by the roads where they were taken down and pick up any and all plastic strips.

So, someone, completely unrelated to the campaign took down just one candidates posters and left the rest up?

Supportive and all as I was to David's campaign, even I find that a little hard to believe chuck. If it is someone doing it on behalf of David maybe let them know to pick up the cable ties in future.

Sorry, what I'm suspecting is that party head quarters sent out a crew to take them down, as it was HQ that also erected the bye-election posters also. I assumed it was Monday morning but no doubt it could have been Sunday.

We ourselves only erected Mulhuddart LEA posters.

Most parties had them put up by paid crews for the bye-election.

I've already passed on the concern about the cable ties.

Don't forget the ones around Mulhuddart and Blanchardstown Road near the new bridge!

It's a funny excuse that it was FF HQ who made a mess taking the posters down, but that has nothing to do with the local FF group!? I mean surely it's an issue that the local FF group and McGuinness should ensure that HQ does correctly?

But at least you're doing something about it :)

Most parties had them put up by paid crews for the bye-election.

It's scary how much money goes into the campaigns of some candidates.. No excuse to do a Fís Nua and not bother to campaign, but it is harder for the smaller candidates and new parties without a doubt.

Parties normally hire contractors to put (non local election) posters up and take them down. The contractors' priority after an election is to get the posters down as the contractors will be liable for any litter fines. Removing and disposing of cable ties should be part of the contract but there are rogues in every business!

Then surely I can rephrase as:

    ;)

Contractors will be working for HQ, McGuinness can only complain to HQ as the contractors are answerable to them not him.

    My point is as follows:

We need to break any disconnect between individuals and their organisations. FF HQ and McGuinness have collectively failed to ensure that this job was done correctly. Given the stage we are at we can only look at future actions:
    • Admit that it was a mistake, and explaining how it happened rather than trying to disassociate with it.
    • Arrange for the cables to be collected.

HQ don't post on here so are unlikely to concede the mistake. And Chucknorris has already posted that they are going to collect the cable to ties.

Party Headquarters have certain roles in election campaigns. It's generally of benefit to a candidate. I don't think it's fair to blame McGuinness for a lazy contractor hired by someone else.

The other thing to bear in mind is that there are also rogue citizens. It has happened in the past that people have taken down and hidden posters only to erect them after the deadline has passed. Could also be happening with cable ties.

Chuck firstly said "We didn't take the posters down, but someone did.", so he did do [2] but didn't do [1] of my bullet points..

It appears to be a contractor who took them down, and as such I just feel that the first statement was wrong.

Anyway this is far too many posts for such a minor issue

Kieran dennison doesn't seem to want to take his posters down at all.

The last ones that I've seen up are for Donnelly from Sinn Féin and Richardson from Fianna Fáil. Saw some Eamonn Ryan ones on the Ongar Road the other day that I'd never seen before because they were obviously hidden by all the other posters that were up.

Around Mulhuddart, it was just Fine Gael and Labour ones until yesterday. Maybe being in Government gives you the sense of entitlement that you're above the law?

Most gone today though apart from Dennison's.

Still loads of cable ties on the ground and left on poles however.

Loads of Hall posters up along the Ballycoolin Rd nearer Finglas too.

is it seven days after voting day that they have to have them taken them down for,
if so, because of all the miles covered and forgetting where some had been up.
i think they should get a months grace to get all down

  • Registered Users, Subscribers Posts: 47,284 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Personally I think 48 hours is all they should be given, they were able to get them up quick enough once they were within a month of polling day. 7 days is generous enough as it is, a month would allow them to take the p*ss imo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,939 ✭✭✭goat2

    reason i say this is,
most of these posters had been put up on saturday, sundays, as people had to go to work during week, it is just giving them the same amount of time that they were allowed before voting day to get the job done in taking them down after voting day,

Too short a time would favour the bigger parties though...

I think most candidates make a genuine effort to take them all down. Can be easy to lose one or two though.

I didn't see it this time but in previous elections FG candidates after an election would put 'thank you' stickers on the posters after they got elected. So they obviously had the time to go around to the posters again but didn't feel the need to take them down

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,834 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

No way should they be given anymore then they already have to take them down. Hall was the slowest one to take them down, but I did see one up today at the first exit of the N3 to Mulhuddart on the fence of the proposed filling station site. But to be fair I did see the candidate personally go around on Saturday removing them.

Just passed some Ruth Coppinger posters still up on the slip road to the Town Centre behind the Crowne Plaza. No excuse for them still being up tbh.

David Hall still up on the Snugborough Road tonight and Ted Leddy at the Esso on the N3 inbound after Auburn Ave junction

David Hall is up nearly all the way to Finglas... He stops at the roundabout at junction with Snugborough Rd and Ballycoolin Rd and this is where Kieran Dennison starts and he goes right up Ballycoolin Rd to Cruiserath Rd.

Eamon Ryan of the Greens is still proudly displayed from Mulhuddart village up towards the N3/Industrial area. It's June 2nd like!

So the asshole AAA/Socialists left the cable ties up from all their posters, I know it was them because they're the only ones to come into the estate and littler the place with their posters. Everyone else had the good grace to stop at the entrance into the place.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers Posts: 47,284 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

I think we can unsticky this one now.

Has Coppinger's replacement been announced?:mad::mad:

One reason for taking them down is they will all want us to forget all the rash promises about abolishing water charges, sorting out hospital waiting lists, creating jobs etc.
They all know we put the leaflets in the green bin immediately so the posters are the only incriminating evidence left. Now all those fresh faced shinners are on the gravy train they won't be standing around shopping centres promising the impossible until the next elections.
