My paddy powers account got hacked and I was taken for 1,470e. This was on tuesday night, I only found out on wed evening when I tried to log in and was blocked out, so far i've no idea what's going on or if i'll get anything back, the police seem to be no help at all saying they can't do much

Whether you think the ad is in bad taste or not you have to see the genius business decision behind it. If paddy power donated its years profit to cancer research it wouldn't get this much publicity. The front page of every newspaper and on every radio show and news website for the past few days. As the sayings goes there's no such thing as bad publicity. I'm not offended by the ad but can see how people have been offended. I do like the pun of "money back if he walks" however

It doesn't take genius to exploit the tragedies of others for financial gain and if all it is is a cheap publicity stunt that's even worse.
You seem to think it's all good craic but the families of murder victims would disagree with you, let's hope you never find yourself in the position of those families like the Furlong's in Wexford, PP obviously doesn't care that this has brought back a lot of painful memories for them as Mr Furlong explained to Joe Duffy.
A little empathy for them wouldn't go astray instead of the congratulory tone for PP who incidentally doesn't give a toss about you either.

I do empathise with the families and as I've said I don't find it offensive as thankfully it hasn't affected my family. I have said that I can see how others find it offensive. I am under no illusions and I know that PP don't care about me and never said that they did. Were you offended by their ad campaigns during the World Cup I'm South Africa mocking the boer wars or their depiction of the last supper or any other offensive ad of theirs?

I do however believe that the ad has generated more publicity than any money could buy and will generate business for them, does that reflect badly on PP or society in general?

I fail to see how one can empathise with victims families yet not be offended by this.
I am not aware of the world cup campaign you refer to because I don't bet, I never did , I also don't recall seeing or hearing anything about it in the media. Any ad campaign that pokes fun at religion will always generate controversy but personally I wouldn't be offended as I'm not religious either and the offense felt by Christians in no way compares to that of victims families.
I agree the ad generated a lot of publicity for PP and I also agree that for the likes of bookmakers there is little in the way of bad publicity but again I reiterate it doesn't take a genius to come up with something as tasteless and crass as this.
Like with any marketing campaign there has to be standards because they have proved without doubt how far they are willing to go to make money.
This does reflect badly on PP but with such a a huge turnover they won't even notice those that closed their accounts because of it, whether it reflects badly on society remains to be seen, I do not know how much money was placed on bets.

So the media who are all over this story like flies on shoite are morally outraged that Paddy Power are using it for their own financial benefit. So what exactly are the likes of the newspapers, news channels, tv shows etc doing it for. The public benefit or to increase their audience as thats what the public want to know about?

Far too much pot calling kettle in this.

Well there's a bit of a difference in covering the trial for the media and making a joke out of it, which is what Paddy Power are doing

It's also a large step down from anything I can remember the company doing with their advertising previously, although my memory could be playing tricks here.

How much lower can you go to get a bit of publicity
