How much a week do you need to live on?

With the recent stories of landlords hiking rents in a big way: how much a week do you need yo live on?

By that I mean rent/mortgage, food, clothes (monthly?), car, electricity, TV/Broadband, socializing, mobile phone, putting a few euro aside for a holiday (if possible) etc.

If you took your monthly outgoings and divided them by 4 what figure would you arrive at?

Are you asking about how much I need, for my 4 bed mansion in D4, with myself and my pomeranian dog, or myself and my 10 childer living in council accommodation in Leitrim?

Its a stupid question. The right way to ask is how much do you earn a year! Same thing no.

I pity the fool thats puts on jewel I Do I DO.

So you already had a thread to see who was single, another one to find out what turns people on and now you have one to find out salary and spending habits?

    Hmm ...........

I'm nosey too, what's your figure?

If you choose "More than €1,200 a week" please specify roughly how much.

The mind boggles at such a weekly outgoing!

Dublin city rent + loan x2 + car expenses + food + utilities etc.

    2200-2400 a month. 550-600 a week.

That figure excludes savings though, which are becoming significant.
Also, it's important to clarify what people mean by 'need'. For some it may be to simply scrape by (a lot of student or graduates for example). For me, the above is to have a comfortable lifestlye/

Well, my D4 mansion is entirely paid off.
My dog has extremely expensive taste - he costs me 100 a week in food, 40 a week in grooming, 40 per month for his vet check up
My nail care costs 100 per month
My therapist costs 100 per week
My hair dresser costs 100 per week
My personal trainer costs 200 per week
My dietician/buyer costs 300 per week
My maid costs 1000 per week
    My accountant doesn't charge me...
My head is melting trying to think of these things - what did you ask again?

But what difference does it make?
It's all relative....to lots of things.

1200 a week for a family of four is not as much as some people may think.decent house, two cars, holiday a year, kids education ,It all adds up very fast.

What I need 650-700 a week, what I get 300.....it's all going horribly wrong!

The Redneck said you'd be passing. You're just ticked off there isn't a negative option. I'm thinking about the Michael Flatley/ Cybil Reilly-Holmes types who have forty houses and a chauffeur. There has to be a few knocking around, by the law of averages.

Perhaps I was keeping the singleton in mind rather than a family man who has to cover four people

You really do end up spending exactly what you have, for example when I made €600 a month while I was in college, I feel like I was living the same kind of lifestyle than to what I am earning now, which is more than double....HOW!?

    Lets say just you.

Im presuming most of those who picked "More than €1,200 a week" are heads of families

Don't have to pay rent, bills or buy their own food. I'd say a lot of single people could live on that.

I would disagree, the stasi were like the church leaders who ruled over the people back in the day.

These days, we are much free'er (if that's a word) today than ever before, because we have access to more information than every generation before ever could have ever dreamed of.

Bout 170 a week covers my rent, bills, groceries and gets me to the cinema and a drink or two. It is a bit tighter than I want but I prob make some changes soon.

You can only live within whatever means you have, if your means were greater you would probably rent/own a nicer house, have a newer car, go on fancier holidays. What you need to get by is dependent on your available funds.

    Very much this.

It's how a lot of uber wealthy people go bust when they start going nuts on extravagances

In silicon valley where rent is mental and 14 dollar cocktails are common, easily Eur800 per week is needed to have a good lifestyle. When I lived in Dublin I could get by on Eur400 per week.
