    Don't really mind I won't be eating them things aren't that bad just yet and I had a swift for years an can't see there would be that much between the two that the fox would blow up

    No ur not mad !! .243 rounds can be got in 58gr and are the perfect foxing round , couple that with the fact that it also a deer caliber and u have the perfect all rounder .

    But I wouldn't go for a remi . There is a .243 tikka in the for sale section . I know the gun well and it is mint . And half the price of one new . Food for thought !

    ...and wow. Does anyone read the charter anymore? Specifically, Rule 8?

    We know this sounds like stating the obvious, but sometimes you have to do just that.

    This rule means no advocating, no condoning, and no soliciting or providing information about means of breaking the law, either in the ROI or NI (or in any other jurisdiction for that matter). This includes but is not limited to:
    • Breaching conditions of a license or authorisation;
    • Use of a firearm for any purpose for which it is not licensed;
    • Evasion of taxes and duties.

    Seriously folks, for pity's sake, it's a public forum and both the Department of Justice and the Gardai are reading it. Utilise your common sense.

    Right so.

    All the bragging, false bravado, and pure crap cleaned up. Sparks' warning stands firm, but to add to it. Report the trolls lads, don't feed them. Other than being a waste off time and breath it only encourages them to keep going. In less than 5 posts this thread went to the dogs because the trolls were fed.

    I'm re-opening the thread but this warning and Sparks' stand firm. Any breach of that and it's bye bye poster. No warnings, no chances.

    A .243 is perfect for foxes, and deer of that's the way you want to go later.

    As said above i used to use the 58 V-max for foxes, and 95gr for deer. At 100 yards they had the same zero, but the 58 never droped out to 200 and the 95 only dropped an inch and a bit. So changing rounds did not need a re-zero.

    However i since changed to 95gr Federal only. Plenty of stopping power for both, and don't mind the nonsense of destroying a fox. Dead is dead.

    Couldn't agree with Cass more,ive a rem in .243 & use it for both,perfect allrounder.I use Federals aswell in 100 gr & find them perfect for both. Sure enough you wont be mounting any foxes after the .243 but he wont be going anywhere....

    IMO perfect choice of caliber.
    I use 100gr Federal soft point on foxs and deer, does the job on both perfect.
    My longest shot on deer was 180yards and a fox 150ish yards but my usual shots are considerable shorter in range. I haven't had the need to push out the range so I find the 100 yard zero perfect for what I do.

    Remingtons?

    New or second hand?

    New - around €1,000 or so (i think). Second hand - Around €600 - €750.

    Other models are cheaper. There is one in the for sale section..

    If you buy a tikka its a rifle for life once cared for. My own tikka will out shoot me anyday with most types of ammo.

    Cracking rifle once it was minded.

    Ive a tikka m595 .243 . Use 100g remington lokt ammo. Cheap as chips. Use on fox and deer. Rifle for life. Happy out. I was looking into big calibers but their not needed imo. Picked .243. Versatile
