Sorry Galway but I'll be cheering on Shels. Always liked going to Tolka.

SSE Airtricity League First Division Play-Off Arrangements

The arrangements have been finalised for the SSE Airtricity League First Division Play-Off which is part of the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off series. The play-off will take place over two legs between Shelbourne, who finished second in the 2014 First Division, and Galway, who finished third. The winners of the play-off will meet the team that finishes 11th in the Premier Division for a place in the 2015 Premier Division.

    First Division Play-Off

First Leg – Friday, October 17: Galway v Shelbourne, Eamonn Deacy Park, 7.45pm.

Second Leg – Friday, October 24: Shelbourne v Galway, Tolka Park, 8pm.

In the event of the scores being level on aggregate after the completion of the second leg match, then extra-time of 30 minutes duration shall be played. If the scores are still level, then a penalty shoot-out shall take place to determine the winners. The Away Goals Rule does not apply in the SSE Airtricity League play-offs.

When is the Relegation/Promotion final? And is it two legs also? Would prefer Shels or Galway over UCD or Athlone anyday. Better aways.

I'll be cheering Dundalk on for the title too. Football friends

Galway or Shelbourne will easily be beaten by Athlone so their only hope is that they overtake UCD before the end of season.

I can't figure out if this is a serious post. Us or Galway will surely be bookies favourite against either Athlone or UCD. It'll be 2 or 3 years (when half our squad are playing elsewhere) before people understand just how good our young squad was this year. If we hadn't had horrible injury luck and Longford hadn't gone the season relatively injury free, things should have been oh so different.

Don't have a particular rivalry/dislike for either of the teams chasing the title but it would be funny if we put a spanner in the works for Dundalk tonight. Unlikely though.

Shams to take the lead. Dundalk to get 2 goals after 80 minutes to win it.

Win tonight and its over. They wont drop points on Friday against Bray.

I'm serious. I have seen Athlone three times this season and they have gotten stronger each time. They were excellent against Dundalk on Friday up until the sending off. We certainly didn't play them off the park like we did with both Galway and Wexford. I have no idea how they are bottom of the table as look far better than a few sides we have come up against.
UCD on the other hand are very poor. They seem to have given up the ghost and if Athlone don't pass them then I'd fancy one of the first divisions sides to.

I'll be honest I haven't seen Shelbourne this season but going by the league table you will struggle against Athlone. From a selfish viewpoint I hope I'm wrong as being Dublin based, Shels is another 'home' game for me. :pac:

They're currently bottom of the Premier Division, probably won't even make the playoff. Forgive me for being more worried about a very strong Galway team.

Rovers 4-1 to win, biggest price since Europa League games?

Galway to come up because its a cracking stay over trip oh and I hate Shels.

For me, it's Athlone for relegation and UCD to beat Galway in the playoff final

fans of 1st division sides on here, who would you like to be in that tier next year with your side from a personal point of view? Eg aways or rivalries or who's the handiest touch etc.

Will there even be 2 divisions next season?

Shels. More boisterous fans, bigger rivalry and they'll bring more people to Oriel Park.

I'm indifferent really. Prefer the Galway trip but I prefer the Shels away supporters. I do like a change though, so I'd like see 2 go down and 2 go up.

Galway easily beat UCD 3-1 away in the Cup this season.

Underestimate them at your peril. :p

Given that we've to get by Galway and theyve to get off bottom, chances are that one way or another we won't be playing them

Isn't the sun that bit brighter today and a spring in one's step...

Finn is out suspended though, a big hole in Fenlon's teams has been a Finn type in midfield

For our imminent return to the Premier Division - Galway United are back

    http://galwayfc.ie/index.php/galway-football-club-galway-united/

Will they be taking over the history of Galway United part 1?

I don't know but I don't see why not, plenty of others have done it, it's not something that weighs heavily on my mind TBH.

Once its not just 7 teams, I don't give a damn

Really little between Galway and Shels in the games between them so far this season. Shels are more clinical up front which I feel will be the difference over the 2 legs

Far from it. We got lucky twice this season in Galway, can't see it being a 3rd. I'll take it a draw now and bring them to Tolka. Should be another great Shels crowd down there.

We didn't finish ahead of them for no reason

Took some photos of Finn Park at the weekend. The quicker Harps get out of that place the better.
