Just got a toasted sandwich maker for work. Its amazing how excited I am about this €12 piece of engineering. I'm ready to take sandwiches to a whole new level but lack the inspiration to do so.

I'm stuck with ham & cheese and the special. Any more ideas AH?

Them processed cheese slices melt into a nice goo. Be careful though, they've been known to burn the mouth off you.

White pudding is also another good one. Nice and greasy :)

if you've left over bolognese sauce, lob this into a toastie.
    Tuna, mayo and cheese.
    Brie, ham, cranberry sauce, lettuce.
    Roast Beef and brie.
    Chicken and cheese.
    Chicken tikka.

Chicken, cheese and coleslaw is my go-to toasted sandwich

Cheese Ham and tomato with a squirt of Mayo, also butter the outside of the bread.

Jam is nice too but just way too dangerous, eat it too soon and you're in 3rd degree burn territory.

I got one of these a present about 10 years ago. Which at the time was pretty lame but I appreciate it as I get older and it still works and makes the yummiest of yummy things.

Haven't got past the "toasted special" myself mind you. But I make panninis on the george Forman and buffalo mozzarella or Brie, with chicken or ham, and pesto and tomato is the dog's dangly bits.

    I miss bread.

I've been asked by a few people now if I would like lettuce in my toastie. Why oh why would I want heated, slimy lettuce in a toasty?

Can't believe nobody has said it.

Crunchy peanut butter and thinly sliced (or mashed) banana.

    Winner.

    yep, it's this.
It's why you tend to see signs for it in the more 'old man' pubs around the country.
Sometime you get a pint with it too!

Yeah I got one of them before, I was sooooo disappointed, no matter how long I left it on the bread didn't brown in certain parts so it would end up a soggy mess.

Tuna, sweetcorn, small bit of mayo, red cheddar, red onion, green pesto, sun dried tomatoes
Sounds like one from that ponce Rachel Allen, but it’s f*ckin savage

Serve with 3 litres of milk

For special occasions, lightly sprinkle with truffle shavings

Personally, I find buttering the bread after you take the toasted sandwich out to be nicer.[/can or worms]

I find that if I raise the front so that it's level, I can do a lovely fried egg and cheese sambo :D

Find some toaster bags better than others, but the ones that heat the fillings don't last very long :/
    I miss bread.
    Agreed.

Beware young Swampy, for what all these cheese loving sammich munchers here are not telling you is that when you use one of these new fangled machines that seals the cheese into the middle of the sandwich, it emerges hotter than the fires of Mordor itself and will leave you "tawting lite thit for a leith an ower atterwards".

I assume the egg would already be cooked. The do you go for fried, scrambled, or boiled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,325 ✭✭✭smileyj1987

Nutella and a banana is pretty nice .

One for the sandwich toaster only, not the George.

Way more inspiring ideas than I have ever tried in the sandwich maker.
Normally ham and cheese for me.
or if I am feeling brave will add some tomatoes, salt and pepper.

Safety should be thought about when your filling your toasties with various forms of semi liquid fillings..
you dont want to bite into a toastie with molten bolognese squirtng onto your lips as i have done in the past.
it bloody well BURNNNNSSSSSSS...and plastic surgery on your mouth is kinda expensive:-p

For anyone off the bread I use my toastie maker as an omlette maker in the office, I have a deep dish toastie maker like the one below handy for work! Bit on the pricey side but such toasted goodness!

    http://www.electricshopping.ie/waring-wosm2u-black-deep-fill-sandwich-maker.html

Also on the toastie make a spread of tomato puree and a sprinkle of cheese on bread can be like a mini pizza! yum!

leftover stew if also a good one.
It's kinda like an Irish Cornish pasty.
