We know what 3 points means, but the Monks always give us a stern test.

As many as possible for this please, maybe we might even get a warm up on the 5-a-side?

looks like its going to be another lottery with the weather :o.

last time we played them, we lead 4-0 at half time after playing with a storm and then came back to 4-2...had we lost 5-4 we could have had no complaints as they absolutely battered us for 30 minutes.

going to be impossible to play in if the weather stays like this so going to be a really difficult game.

Gutted, am going to be in Denmark on work, wasn't able to change it,gutted to miss it. Good opposition who are good,in the air at the back, even more reason to try get it down, but that ain't gonna be easy. Good luck!

Please have your ankle taped up well, I will run backwards for the first 50 metres...its the least I can do to make it competitive.

Don't forget to bring your 50 quid wager.

We need to focus on the game and the 3 points and i think try not to get too distracted by what could happen at the end of the game.

We were aided a couple of years back in winning the league when in our last game our opposition gave us the walkover (bottom of the table).

This is an entirely different proposition, as Jules said Monks are a very solid team, who after going 4-0 down came back to 4-2 and put us under sever pressure for the entire second half.

Lets get the 3 points and then we can all bet on which sick note injures themselves first in the 100 metre sprint :D

nice little fact AB won the summer league with the same points 37 in 18 games whereas weve managed that in 14 :O and we are 6 points better than our final tally of 31 points with 4 games less.

Looks like it's calmed down, but will probably be freezing.

Meaning a warm up will be essential.

was surprisingly calm there last night, a bit windy but nothing major compared to what we have seen so far this season. cant recall so many games where wind was a factor.

Wind was perfect for football last night, and by the looks of that morning it's going to be another perfect night.

Lets bring your A game folks.

I was re-united with Collie last night at 41 the aul man still has it.

Are we still going to do the 5-6 a side before hand for 15 minutes, can you send a text out an confirm, I'll come up earlier if thats the case, it would be better, we can start the game on our toes, however if it's not going to happen I'll hang back in work as im up to my eyeballs.

    5-2 win.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,748 ✭✭✭✭Lovely Bloke

That was the absolute worst weather I've ever experienced at a match.

0-2 down to weather related mistakes, then Paddy got a Keith Special to make it 1-2 at half time.

Then about half way through the second half Darren went off injured and we scored 4 goals. I thought the way SteK, Ciaran, Damo, Kingsley, Dave and Derek took control of their half of the pitch was absolutely brilliant given the conditions, we could have had 8 or 9 truth be told, we dismantled them really, but I think they dropped the heads at 3-2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,311 ✭✭✭mrDerek

what a great win those conditions were incredible im so surprised it wasnt called off as it looked like the 5 a sides were cancelled :O
the cold played havoc on everyones bodies i reckon few injuries and to go into the second half with 10 men and win is great
On our day, we can beat anyone in this league, but it's consistency that will be the difference at the top and keeping our composure is the key to being consistent

    incredible consistency this season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

well done lads, im f*cking delighted with that..what a night and more to the point, what a way to win it.

2-0 down in the worst weather ive ever played in, but my god, we stepped up big time and even though we were 10 men for most of the second, we still knocked in the last 4 goals.

ive known Ciaran for years and that was his best ever game for boards, he was immense and stepped up bigtime when needed, as of course did Derek, super stuff out of both of them in the second half. thought Damo had a great 2nd half also though everybody played really well.

should go for a few beers after next weeks game or some night before the trophy is presented.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,741 ✭✭✭Mousewar

Yeah, it was really impressive some of the moves in the second half. Some of the passes for Derek's goals were incredible, especially given the conditions. I could list names, but I'd probably list the whole team.

Well done on a great championship. I didn't play a lot of it but it's great to see the team get there. And to do so with so many games to spare in a very competitive league with several strong teams is an amazing achievement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

des, by the way i have your gloves and found another football down near the dressing room with Boardeaux on it so brought it home...yellow one.

being able to put out pretty much the same 11 or 12 players every week certainly helped this, makes a huge difference when the team is so settled.

Well done everyone. Gutted I've missed the last few weeks as it's been great playing with you all this season. Everyone done a job and we more then deserved winning it with the work we all put in from start to finish over the season.

just looking at the league table, as well as being 10 points clear, we have -

best attack (38 goals), best defence (15 conceded), have the top scorer in Derek as well as the joint most clean sheets (7 - 3 way tie with Cork and Kooventus).

i know we'd all like to mess about for the last 3 games, but i think getting the top scorer, best defence and keeper awards is much more important. lets get the 4 trophies sorted and then we can have a bit of a laugh!

probably need 2 clean sheets in the last 3 games to seal both the defensive awards.

    Champione, Champione, Ole, Ole, Ole!!!!

Des kindly called me right after and I've had updates from Murtagh, sounds like proper epic conditions, feckin sounded like a hurricane in the background on the phone with Des. To be able to keep playing in those conditions takes some doing, to come from behind and score five is just downright impressive.

I rarely call out any individual names as the fundamental ethos this team has always been built on is it's all about the team. But when a striker bangs in 4 it deserves a special mention lads, Derek, take a bow, you've been lethal all season.

Last season we were actually capable of that and any of our best performances from this season, but it's right to bring the consistency point back up - that really has been the difference. We actually haven't hit full potential too many times, it's more that even when we were grinding it there was still a consistently high standard we didn't let it drop below.

I won't lie, there's more a tint of regret to not being there when we actually won it, have waited long enough for it, but that's way, way outweighed by the pride of being part of this team - I love that we've won, I love that we've done it by playing fear-free attacking football, but mostly I love that we've done it as a genuine team: look around, there's not too many teams that play for each other as we all do, most of them are falling out with each other all the time.

Right, priorities are now on posting a record 49 points on the board and making sure everyone books in the trophy night to see how many jagerbombs we can fit into the cup!

Des, as always, thanks for your dedication and guiding of this team, has been a long journey but defo worth it!

If our performance this season has thought us anything it's shown us how much Collie has been holding us back all these years :p:p:p

An added bonus tonight was that i didnt have to bother with the usual ice bath afterwards.

Well played all round tonight, particularly on the offence in the 2nd half. Very composed and controlled on the ball.
I havent had that many fresh airs since the last time i tried pucking a sliothar around the beach in Lahinch.
The Kolo Toure clearance/assist and the deflected OG didnt get us off to a great start but the wonder-goal from Paddy and the attacking efforts in the 2nd half were impeccable.

Anyway, from 1 to 11 it was a great effort this season and a just reward. Also, I'd like to echo Jules' thanks to Des for organising and managing everything again this year.

Looking forward to the night out, and as is custom, the top scorer has to fill the cup with the jagerbombs.

I wasn't able to make it out, but I was in and around Dundrum around half eight. Incredible gusts. I thought it would be off. Excellent result.

    Incredible gusts.

wasnt just the wind, it poured for the entire game, i could barely move in the second half with the extra weight of rain soaked kit.

to sum up how bad the wind was, i kicked one ball off my hands in the second half and despite kicking it into the far sideline, it ended up clearing the opposite fence (which is about 25ft tall) and didnt stop until it got to the end of the bottom pitch. insane, but thankfully it worked out in the end.

would have been a real sickner to lose in those conditions, considering what was at stake.

in the first half it was very difficult to look to the right side of the pitch, the wind was driving the rain very hard

As Ed says above, lets make sure we get the various other accolades, we shouldnt be taking our foot off the gas

Brilliant performance lads, that rain in the 1st half......wow.

Can't wait for the next 3 games now, I doubt any team has won it with 49 points it would be great if we could achieve that.

Well done guys and congratulations!! I can't believe you were out playing in that weather last night, just running to my car was enough for me to stay indoors for the rest of the night :D

All of your training has obviously paid off; fair play to you and good luck with the next few games even though you don't need them!

To be honest it's Des i pity. I spent the first ten minutes watching with him on the sideline and the rest playing. Without question it was harder on the sideline. Wind was whipping you straight in the face constantly there.
Piece of cake out on the pitch. :pac:
