We had people walking around screen-to-screen when there wasn't ushering duties to be doing IIRC. You'd respond to something like this after a customer complaint though, which is easy to do as it just looks like they're going to the bathroom. Then you'd come in and try and see it for yourself, have a word then do routine checks back to make sure it's all still quiet. If not the option was there to switch off the film to resolve the issue. I'd imagine most cinemas have similar procedures, like I said it's something that comes up a lot so they kinda have to. You'd be surprised how few people notice you dipping in and out of screens.

The strangest I've encountered was probably people jerking off in the cinema during RIPD at Frightfest last year.
Also seen quite a few people take out IPads (yes ****ing IPads) during movies at Frightfest and it also happened when I saw Side Effects.
A few films shown (Amer and Vile come to mind) had bored people making snarky comments during the movie.
Glows from phones followed by someone screaming "turn off your ****ing phone" seems to be the new thing at Frightfest, although during Dead Snow 2 someone ignored everyone and had a full conversation on her phone, very annoying.

Yeah two people where jerking each other off during RIPD at a festival no less.

Dead Snow 2 is fantastic, the pacing is very quick, the gore effects are great and it has some very funny moments. It's great to see with a crowd as long as they stay off their bloody phones!!!

I was in Odeon Coolock last night and before the film started a blue screen popped up with 3 Rules To Be Observed At All Times.

    1) Phones are not permitted to be used within the screen.
    2) No Talking.
    3) No Feet on the seats.

While its good to see them try to make an effort to remind people of their rules I'd be very surprised if the warning makes any difference.

Most cinemas I've been to have those warnings and it's rare people take heed of them.

I think the weirdest experience I had was when 2 guys came and sat in the seats beside myself and my husband. They started fumbling around over which cup holder to put their drinks in and whether mine was in the wrong one. We settled on everyone having their drinks in the holder to the left of them. One of the guys actually made a point of saying you were always supposed to use the one on your left.

So, not 20 minutes later, he reaches over (to his right!) and starts drinking my drink :( Then just put it back as if he hadn't realised what he'd done. Then he did it again and again throughout the film. Safe to say I didn't touch it!

A good few years ago, I was in the cinema with one of my friends and mid way during the movie a woman makes her way to the seat beside me sits down, asks what did she miss, while taking a handful of my popcorn out from my tub.

Knowing better not to engage a crazy I didnt reply to which caused her to look at me at which stage she proclaims, "Oh you're not my son" and proceeds to put the handful of popcorn she took back into my tub and gets up and sits into the row infront of me where her son was actually sitting.

I didn't touch the popcorn after as I didn't trust her to wash her hands...

Went to The Gate cinema in Cork city centre one Saturday night.
A gang of youths obviously drunk came in. A fight started between some guy and a genuine punter.
Better than the film it was.
They stopped the film and security escorted the troublemakers out.
They gave everyone free passes afterwards
    We never went back
We now only go to the cinemas outside the city where people drive.
    Cuts out the total scumbags!

Something similar happened to me: a girl spilled popcorn on me when I was watching a movie by myself. She then apologised and joined me, picking away at my popcorn throughout the movie asking me what was going on. One thing led to another and she ended up back in mine where, after doing the deed, I found her crying on my roof. At which stage she told me she was a CALL GIRL...but that she was in love with me?!

Long story short (my father got murdered along with quite a well known Hollywood movie producer), we're now married. :)

I've found that a very effective policy myself. At least you know the people there have made an effort to see the film, are old enough to drive to it and are not drunk. I think I'd assault someone in the city judging from some of the stories here though I've never had an issue myself when I do go to The Gate the odd time. Plus Mahon Point is in a league of its own since the new screens and equipment were installed. Most of the other cinemas are looking mighty dated by comparison. Now if only the 3D nonsense will die out we can enjoy the biggest screens too.

But 3D is a big reason for why cinemas have changed to digital (cheaper) projection lol. The thing that ruins 3D is when films that weren't filmed in it are just post converted to scrape more profit and those movies will never be as good as actual 3D movies that were recorded in it. When done right, 3D actually can be a great extra feature for some movies.
