Are you afraid of dying?

I don't know if fear is the right word. But I lament the fact that it has to happen. If I allow myself to think about it too much I fall into a sort of nihilism and every single thing I do starts to seem pointless.

I would gladly be here forever and watch it all unfold, I'd love to see what the future holds for humanity.

I would love to believe in an afterlife, but unfortunately my rational mind won't allow it. It must offer great comfort.

    No fear of dying.

Have a fear of family members finding out how fcuked up I actually am when they clear out my apartment, snoop through my stuff.

I've made a pact with a mate, which ever one dies first, the other destroys all hard drives etc.

NO. Countless billions have died before me and countless billions will die after me. currently there are approx 9 billion people on the planet, not a SINGLE ONE of these people will be alive in 115 years time.so dont worry about it.
    sleep tight.....;)

Estimates say about 100 billion people have died.

It is plausible for someone born today to be alive in 115 years from now. Especially if they are stuffed full of spare parts. I envisage humans living to a thousand years before long. Like Vampires.

Just over 7 billion, if we had 9 billion right now we'd be in bit of trouble.

oops ,too much "huzzar", but you still get my drift.....

Well that's grime. Apparently I will die Thursday, 15th April 2049 at the ripe old age of 68. It even has a helpful counter ticking down the time.

If I change the country to Kenya, I only live to 44!

46 years left, I better start eating and drinking more, otherwise I'll run out of things to do. Suppose I'll be working till 70 anyway so 4 years of free time for me.

I freeze myself when going asleep and thaw myself out in the morning. Reckon I'll get another 40 years at least

Just don't want to be there when it happens, to quote someone who summed it up far better than I can.

Apologies for the morbid question late on a Sunday night!! :D

I don't want to get into a chat about the after life etc. just been thinking of my own mortality lately and the surreal thought that one second you are alive and the next it will be all over.

There you are ComicBookGuy ........... fyp :D

In answer to your question NO!

Why should I be afraid of nothing?

Yeah I'm afraid of dying, it will probably be a heart attack or cancer going on family history.

Hopefully I'll get the heart attack option, cancer is a fooker of a disease, saw it reduce the old man to nothing in just 3 months.

the thing about dying is, if you leave anyone behind you wont care cos u wont know,it wont matter.. its not like u will come back and the family will shun u for dying and leaving them.......... religion sure is funny

With the string of bereavements that have been more or less ongoing for five years now I'm just thoroughly weary of death. Feel apathetic about it really.. All I do know is I don't want to become a burden on anyone by being incapacitated with illness. So a quick death please, no fear here..

Afraid of death? No, but I would like to live as long as possible quality of life permitting. Afraid of dying? Absolutely, my greatest fear is suffering horrific pain that I cannot tolerate.

See death and dying on regular basis, some deaths are lovely and peaceful and others are horrific. Don't know whether I fear death, the horrible deaths certainly make you think alright, but I definitely don't think I'm ready now, and want to hang around to see my kids grow up.

I was told by an 80 year old today he was "in the departure lounge", I won't mind that myself, providing the plane isn't due to go for another 40 years or so.

Not afraid of my own death per say. I am afraid of leaving my loved ones behind and of my loved ones leaving me behind

I am although I guess I won;t know it when I am so maybe not.My opinion regarding life and death is that you would be far better off not being born in the first place.Whats the point of living and actually doing anything in life when its just going to be taken away from you in the end and your life adds up to completely nothing.

You don't even benefit from the good things in life as if you weren't born you wouldn't know they exist and therefore you cant feel you have missed out on anything but not experiencing it if you don't know something exists so you lose out on nothing by not being born. However of you are born you suffer by having to endure all the sh1t life brings.

Who isn't? Really? We all want to live forever. Better use the time you have because in the grand scheme of things it's just a moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,896 ✭✭✭pappyodaniel

Not really, but I want to do things before it happens.

When I do go I'd like to do it on my own . I'd hate to go slowly and have 'loved' ones taking turns sitting at my bedside waiting for the inevitable...it would ruin the moment for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,561 ✭✭✭hairyslug

I'm scared of it but at the moment I'm looking at as "sure it won't happen to me anytime soon" I'm sure as I get older it will sink in a little deeper and I can either be truely terrified of it or have time to appreciate all that has happened in my life and mentally prepare myself for what I hope is something more than being stuck 6ft down in a hole
My father is old, I have had to face facts in the last while and realise that he will not always be there and that scares the crap out of me and him.

The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.

    It's a mad world.

Nope OP not in the slightest. Used to be terrified of it but zero focks given these days. Don't take that wrong way I love being alive.
