    1. Syndicate - Amiga
I was addicted from the moment I laid eyes on the first screenshots months before it came out

    2. Super Mario All Stars - SNES
It's mutiple Super Mario games on one cartridge!?

    3. Theme Park - Amiga and SNES
Mostly because I love theme parks in general

    4. Robocop - Arcade
Played it over and over again in the local fast food place after school

    5. Mortal Kombat - Arcade
Yes, I loved sf too and still do but MK was dangerous...and I liked that!

    1: Super Mario World (SNES)
    My essential game.

    2: Shining Force (Mega Drive)
Regularly borrowed the neighbour's console for this.

    3: Pokemon Red/Blue (Gameboy)
Made those long car trips feel so much shorter.

4: Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
I actually don't tend to like Zelda games but I did love this one as a kid.

    5: Desert Strike (SNES)
All the Strike games really. Still play it from time to time.

    1. Super Mario World- gaming perfection.

    2. Double Dragon- cos that's the why, it was a reason to go to the seaside as a kid.

    3. Street Fighter 2- the cause of, and solution to, all childhood arguments.

    4. Bubble Bobble- I still play it now, speaks volumes about it.

    5. Super Mario Bros 3- one of the many reasons to own a NES

Still regularly play the arcade version and limit meself to 1 credit, hard as nails. Had it for the NES and played it relentlessly growing up.

That music that constantly loops but never grates where you have to hum along with it at least once while the next level scrolls up the screen. :pac:

    1. Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt

Brother got this as a Xmas pressie with the Zapper included. Had a look at the gun the other week and doesn't have a scratch. The "Pang!" of the trigger is always a blast to the past.

    2. F-Zero

When the brother won the SNES this was one of the 7 initial games that came with it.

    Big Blue............that catchy theme.

    3. Fatal Fury 2

The Neo-Geo and was that elusive console you only saw the games in either the arcades or on the back of gaming magazines at prices only the richest kings of Europe could afford.

    4. International Superstar Soccer

    Gooooooal kick..............yellow card...........Grrrrrrrrrrrreat play.................Goal, Goal........GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!

Many arguments between myself and the brother were settled on this, he'd kick my ass for years until I finally got the better of him.

    5. Mortal Kombat II

We got this the Xmas it came out for the SNES, I remember it was in The Sun where they did the usual spiel of it turning kids to violence and the aul lady freaked out.

If we played Superstar Soccer then this had to be played afterwards to fully determine the winner of the night.

Honourable mention to Killer Instinct, looked the shìt in arcades with the advert in the intro:

"Coming to your home in 1995.............ONLY...........on Nintendo Ultra 64!!"

1995...............lol. Still, the black SNES cart looked cool and it came with a CD of the music.

Mario 3 and Super Mario World deserve their own spots, but I'll say Super Mario All Stars
    Street Fighter 2 Turbo
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe (was a time I cared for sports games)
Zelda A Link to the Past
There was a great driving game on the SNES I loved but I can't remember the name of it. It had pit stops. Not a big selection of cars, but was awesome.

    1. Starflight (PC)
I used to call it "Star Wars Flight" iirc

    2. Micro Machines '96 (Sega MD2)
    The track creator in particular

    3. C&C Red Alert (PC)
I remember hating the levels when you played just the spy. I think I stopped playing the campaign at that point and stuck to skirmishes.

    4. Streets of Rage (Sega MD2)
Hours spent on the first level in 2 player beating each other up

    5. Fantasy World Dizzy (Amiga)
This pretty much was my childhood

    1. Civ 2
    2. Starcraft: BW
    3. Pokemon (GameBoy Advanced)
    4. Quake
    5. FFX

I had a brother who was ten years older so games made an appearance in my house earlier than they would've had it all been down to me.

I've probably been gaming since about the age of 5 so I got the earlier titles in like Doom but it also spanned into my early teens with things like FFX and included the Pokemon craze.

Pokemon (1st gen) is still a cracking little game. Played it on an emulator recently. They knew how to put an RPG together.

Played this more than any other on the Megadrive. Far and away my favourite game on the system

    Turrican 2 (C64):

    turrican_2_04.gif

There wasn't much great on the C64 but Turrican 2 really was.

    Bubble Bobble (C64):

    bubble_bobble_09.gif

The C64 somehow managed to have a great conversion of this gem. Still play the arcade version to this day.

    Theme Park:

    theme-park2.png

I got horribly addicted to many versions of this

    Megaman 2:

    megaman2.png

Everyone had a megadrive or SNES at the time and my friend had a NES. I didn't mind, the games were still great but Megaman 2 is the one I played the crap out of. I had Megaman 3 on the Gameboy but this was so much better.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2: I love all of them but out of the first 3 sonic the hedgehog 2 is my favourite , beating the game with my dad was my first gaming achievement

Streets Of Rage: Sheer beat em up joy

Revenge of the shinobi: you fight batman , spiderman , godzilla , terminator and a head banging rainbow hair colour boss , its everything a kid ever wanted in the 90s :L

World of illusion: Between C.O.I OR W.O.I world is what I remember having fond memories more most.

    X-Men 2: Clone Wars (MD)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,553 ✭✭✭murphyebass

    As a Kid..

    AMSTRAD 6128 PLUS
    Burning Rubber
    Robocop
    Batman
    Turricane

Also remember using the book that came with the Amstrad to code a version of pong. Took ages to type all the code out but it was amazing to see a game you just coded in front of you.

...........As I got older we (always between the 3 of us) also had a Mega Drive and an N64...

    MEGA DRIVE...
Streets of Rage 1,2 and 3
    Sonic 1,2 and 3
Weirdly a Tiny Toons game as well that was cool.

    N64
    ISS 64
    Mario Kart 64
    Goldeneye.
WWF something.. cant remember what tbh.

Mario Kart, Goldeneye and WWF were played to death at a mates house.
Kids miss that type of multiplayer these days with their new fangled online playing. Boo to that. Bring back 4 player local matches!!

I've just bought 4 wii remotes and nunchucks in antisipation for Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart on the Wii U. Now all I need to do is convince all my mates to ditch their wives and kids and come over and play some local multiplayer goodness.

First computer was an old Mac but I didn't get any real games in until I got an LC Color.

    Civilization
    Syndicate
    Prince of Persia
Hellcats Over The Pacific, MS Flight Sim, F/A 18 Hornet, Red Baron (loved my flight games, would be hard to pick a favorite)

A friend had an IBM Aptiva and we used to play the XCom games splitting up the game by base/squad or whatever.

I never did well with console games, but Streets of Rage was good.

Another unappreciated gem is AV-8B_Harrier_Assault which I got the Mac version of (it was called Flying Nightmares if I remember correctly).

I was expecting this thread to be filled with PS2 and XBox titles.

Glad I'm not the only oldie here :D

I used to make games on the C64, then sell them to the local kids. I'd also use the Action Replay cartridge to compress other peoples tape games and re-record them on tapes for them (reducing load times to 20 seconds). And I charged for this service. And of course...I made a copy for myself. Due to this, I had pretty much every game ever made for the C64, along with a floppy disk drive and dot matrix printer.
In short....I loved the C64! Even after I got an Amiga 600 & 1200, I still played it.

I can't remember every game, but I've fond memories of:
    1. Mayhem in Monsterland.
    2. All the Turrican games.
    3. Bubble Bobble.
    4. Elite.
    5. Stunt Car Racer (a 3d wireframe game on a C64 with a 1mhz processor was a little slow, but...it was 3D!!!)
    6. Gauntlet.
    7. Most of the Dizzy Games.
    8. Secret of Monkey Island.
    9. Ghouls n' Ghosts / Ghost n' Goblins.
    10. Rick Dangerous.

I would still play any of these games today.

Theme Park - I was always that bastard who put the salt content of the Fries stand up as are the price of the drink shops placed nearby.

Any Dizzy game - these were absolutely excellent. Can't imagine how much time I wasted on these.

Frontier: Elite 2 - this game was absolutely mind boggling back then - the Universe was just so expansive and even stands out compared to modern games.

LucasArts Games and specifically the Monkey Island series. The 2nd game was before the advent of walkthroughs Online, so that game took about a year to complete on all skill levels.

Micro-Machines - many a fond memory was created playing a 4-person game of this.

    1. Zelda:a link to the past - the only 100% perfect game, discovering that their was a dark world was one of the greatest moments of my life
    2. Mario allstars – Every time I wasn’t playing this game all I could think of was when will I get to play it again
    3. Mario world – the very definition of gameplay, in 100 years time their’ll still be people playing it
    4. Rock n roll racing - Still the best driving game ever
    5. Donkey kong country

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,175 ✭✭✭Doge

My list is in ascending order of each platform...

    1. Last Ninja 2 (C64) - 1988
The innovative puzzler, platformer and beat'em up series.
Some serious imagination went into this game. Lots of interactivity with your environment, and you could combine inventory items to create weapons.
Most gorgeous graphics on the C64 and its my all time favourite 8-bit soundtrack!

    park_boat1.gif

    2. Platoon (C64) - 1987
Another stunning game with an excellent soundtrack.
Loved it so much i was the first person to upload videos of it to youtube:

This level was like an early attempt at an FPS, and the atmospheric music really suited the dark tunnels, love the water drop rhythm:

    3. Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega Master System) - 1991
My only memorable game on the platform.

    89220-Sonic_The_Hedgehog_(USA,_Europe)-5.png

    4. Sega Mega Drive Games
I cant name just one as i love the games equally. These first 2 are my favourite megadrive soundtracks:

    Srtreets Of Rage

    Revenge of Shinobi

Sonic 2, Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Flashback, Road Rash 3, Prince of Persia, Micro Machines etc.

Zero Tolerance gets a special mention as its the first FPS i ever played and had unique features:

    5. Duke Nukem 3D (PC) 1996
The game that redefined the FPS genre thanks to the mighty Build Engine.
Tons of interactivity, one liners, weapons, inventory, references and titties!
This is the game i spent the most amount of time playing thanks to a very strong modding community which is still active. You could swim, jetpack, blow holes in walls and manholes, crawl through vents and the game literally brought you to space and back, the possibilities seemed endless!

    Soundtrack was excellent also.
