Finding the time to game

This has been a great Christmas in a lot regards.
I got a nice selection of games over December.
Santa blessed my son with a Zelda-tastic sack of gifts.
And the prospect of one or both of the current gen machines ascending to the games room in the sky aka the attic is a real possibility soon.

But, 1st world problem alert, this past 2 weeks I have played an hour of Hotline Miami and 30 minutes of Grid 2.
    And that's it.
Tearaway has sat in its case.
Persona 4 has bounced a ball off the walls of its cell.
Super Mario 3d World has screamed at me from its captivity as I walk on by.
I just can't find the time to play games at all.
Painting before Christmas, distracted by the Internet and Boards, tired in the evenings and watching, sadly, New Girl and its ilk on TV.

    Help!

    I need an intervention!
Otherwise i might have to change my username to Casualman, sell my games collection and buy a PS4 with only Need for Speed Rivals, Fifa and CoD Ghosts to play !

So, when do you find time to invest in your hobby?
    How do you do it?
    Tell me you secrets!

Christmas is a bad time for gaming overall i think. I always say ill sit down and spend x amount of time but truth is i never do over christmas.

This year my GF bought me a PS4 for christmas, since I opened it I played a grand total of 1 hour of battlefield..... shame on me :(

I've only had a chance to play an hour of Crysis 2 aswell :(

    I had a similarly spartan xmas gaming-wise.

I find I only get a shot on the TV when the kids are in bed and the missus is out. Fortunately she has plenty of hobbies and social engagements which get her out in the evening :D

But if you have a games room you have no excuse! :P

I also find it hard to get some time in. Between work, training 4 nights a week, Spending time with my GF and spending time with my own friends and not to mention trying to keep on top of any graphic design work I have to do. Its really hard to find time, I usually end up staying up a bit late on the days I'm not working the next morning and get 2-3 hours in then. Sometimes I will just say **** it aswell and stay in and get a good session in

Time management, that's what I need, Better time management.
A corporate approach to retro gaming.
Now to fire up Outlook and present She who must be Obeyed a business plan to justify time spent playing Earthbound.

I find it very hard to find the time to game especially living with my fiancé who has no interest whatsoever in the past time.

She also hogs the main TV (where all of my consoles are hooked up) to watch ****e like Coronation St so that doesn't help either.

I've been playing alot of the WiiU lately as a consequence seeing as it doesn't need the main TV to be taken up all of the time. Breezing through Sonic: Lost World and Super Mario 3D World at this stage.

I have more games than I'll ever have time to play at this stage though.

Pretty much! It's not all bad, you get sexytime every so often for having to put up with whatever Rita and Ken are up to in Corrie every so often.

    It's not so bad.

I'd be playing on the bartop alot more often if Hyperspin didn't require loads of attention. Also I haven't actually tested it since taking it apart and putting it back together recently. The button configs could very well be all over the place.

I don't know how anyone could rouse themselves to "sexytime" after watching Rita and Ken, seriously, you'd need a couple of days off to scrub the images from your mind.

    Eye bleach helps.

Gaming takes effort. I find it very relaxing one I get into it, but those few 'start up moments' (for no use of a better term) does take a bit of motivation. Especially after a day at work.

Just stick to that one game at a time think I keep mentioning, as it works :) if you bounce from game to game you don't really commit to any of them so there's nothing spurring you on, increasing the 'meh-ness'.

That's true and kinda depressing, bugger.
I have some god botherers coming over at my better halfs invitation, so its an excellent opportunity to hide in the gamesroom.
Must make a sign saying "pagans only" for the bottom of the stair

You could always try to stick to a strict policy of 'complete one, buy one'.

The way you buy games, you'd be flying through your back catalogue :D

Are we still talking about sexytimes here?

All I'm going to say is way too much battlefield and euro truck simulator 2.
Nearly have a jamma mega drive done too.
Picture is sweet as a nut!

I barely have time to buy games these days let alone play them :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

I hardly put any time Into gaming these days :( like what o1s1n said, it's that initial push to make yourself turn on a game is what stops me. Especially if I want to play something on a console that's not connected up to the TV. The effort of finding cables and controllers puts me off :P That and tiredness after work. Usually if I do play something for a while it'll be on the PS3 or 360, as they're always connected up.

'Start up moments' are easier to get through with handhelds and with me being so lazy it's means handhelds tend to be my core gaming experiences lately.
I've poured a good few hours into Fire Emblem, Mario 3D Land and Castlevania Portrait of Ruin and Circle of the Moon, whereas, poor auld Earthbound has been neglected and looks to have that fate in its immediate future as well with the arrival of Devil survivor Overclocked.

I'm glad to say my other half doesn't interfere with any of my gaming activities and coronation street will always lose out to SNES or the GameCube. Also sexytime is not dependant on Ken and Rita.

    I had a breakthrough today.
I made the time to play Chronotrigger, put in an hour.
I felt suitably energised as a retrogamer.
I also put in 15 mins on SoR2.... Still don't like it!

I'll have to revise my thoughts on the benefits of handhelds.

SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked has a few glitches which require the downloading of a patch onto the 3DS.
Went to do it in work this morning, yes yes I should be working but I have really ****ty broadband at home, and it's driving me mad.
Can't get it to connect to the wifi and I always seem to have trouble connecting the DS up to anything and all I want to do is summon a demon ffs.

Okay, so you've started Chrono Trigger - stick with it! See it through! Have some conviction!

15 minutes isn't long enough for SOR2, sorry :P Either play it through start to finish or just don't bother :pac:

Sailor Moon on the Super Famicom is better than SoR2.

Re: SoR2, I couldn't play anymore, I developed cramp in the one finger that was pressing the same damn button over and over again ;)

I recommend you give up gaming and stick to waggle games on the wii and Kinect games. Old fogey.

I take it you came to that conclusion based on the higher upskirt quota in Sailor Moon? :pac:

After a bit of investigation (as I didn't know that game existed) it looks like it was also released on the Megadrive - having the superior version as it's uncensored. Looks great, shame it seems expensive. :(

Paint the top of your member with day glo paint and pretend it's a playstation move controller, nope, doesn't work, and the paint is very hard to remove.... or so I'm told.... don't be tempted to use meths to remove it either, especially if you've just tried a scouring pad... ouchy

I beginning to think that the retro and arcade discussions are only a thin veneer that covers a chasm of sexual depravity.

Sailor Moon is better than Breaking Bad.

    Just beginning?
Come on man, you're here long enough to know what we're all depraved and secretive about it, aside from Retr0, though since he met Sera he's slowly moving back down the spectrum to the regular part of the bellcurve.
Atavan on the other hand.... he says he's a changed man, but I see a bottle of Captain Morgans, a pair of Speedos and a Wrecking Ball in the middle of the Dundrum shopping centre, when the pressure finally gets too much to conform.

And got another 30mins on Chronotrigger, I have found my happy place!

If you can't manage time to play because of your gf or bf, why don't you invite them to try a few?
They might like it and join you in the fun.
