Sorry for the delay in getting the shiny new spreadsheet up and running, but I was busy drinking yesterday. Some of you have already found the page by the looks of it anyway:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApYKSUtVQ4OodHNzOG5GTHlHX3RVWENsUU9oSWYwdEE&usp=sharing

Same as last year we are using Google Docs again, just click on the link above and enter your boardsie name in column A and then how far your total miles are for the year in column C, or if you count in kilometres enter that in column D. If you want you can also enter you age/ gender category in column B. Your ranking amongst the boardsies is shown on the Positions sheet.

Do not edit any other columns, except for the completion date when you have done your 1000miles. People who had access to the locked sheet last year should already be setup with access to the same sheet again, anyone that wants access to that then you'll need to PM me your Google email address so that I can enable access.

Was actually looking about trying to set one up this morning but had a problem trying to download all the formulas (xls fil wouldnt covert and csv didn't import formula's)

My resolution this year is to for once actually update the page throughout the year

Only one day into the year and I've two races done already with a parkrun and then a quick drive down the motorway to run a 10km. Got myself a 2nd placed old bloke prize as well for my trouble which is always nice.

I'm in. Found this a good incentive last year to keep the mileage up.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

To the 5 or so people that sent me PM's since yesterday evening, you should all now have access to the locked sheet.

Thanks for setting this up Robin. I'll use it to get me started for Boston - lots of running in the wind and rain on the way ;)

I must be mad but I'll give it a try too...

BTW, is there any way of linking to the sheet directly from my google drive?

Is this a race or a challenge???? Hope its the latter....

A challenge.. Just for you to keep from slacking off :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭CR 7

Gonna give this a go this year. Probably managed around 500 last year and only took it seriously for around half the year.

Went for a quick run yesterday just to test out the mapmyrun app so that should make it easier to keep track of the mileage.

I see the Champions League contenders are back into position once more but looks like Ecoli must have gotten some Russian Billionaire to finance him this season...!!

Hopefully we can keep our form up and claim a Europa league place again this year or is it time to sneak into the that coveted 4th place? ;)

Some aging teams there so surely there must be potential to close the gap for us youthful M35s!!
Also, injuries will play a big role in events so if you see any of them around be sure to trip them up!

I was at the bottom of the list last year, until the middle of February. It's not early results that count, it's consistency over the entire length of the season. What the older guys lack in enthusiasm, we make up for in wisdom. Reminds me of an story:
Two bulls were sitting in a pasture, over-looking a field full of cows. The young bull says to the older bull 'lets run down to the lower field and fnck a cow'.
The older bull responds 'Nah, let's walk down, and fnck 'em all'.

Been a middle table team the last few years, form has been good but just hadn't put enough points on the board. Just hope I don't fall off early season as per usual, one of my resolutions this year is to actually update this right through the year.

You were right to get rid of Moyes and get Martinez in so!! Some serious work been done over there on the training ground!
(Right, time to stop this metaphor now!!:D)

Hoping I can get a cross channel move this year and make it to the big time. Championship is my level, not ready for the big league yet!

Anyone who has pm'ed me for access to the locked sheet, please bear with me until Sunday. I'm up a mountain at the moment and won't be able to edit the permissions until the weekend. Send me a reminder if I seem to have forgotten next week though.

Why not just give rom access to provide access/permissions? What happens if you fall off the mountain and break both your arms?

Yep anything logged since Jan 1st. You can also request access from robinph for the locked page which is the same thing but it just prevents anyone messing or deleting your details

Rom did have the required access to the spreadsheet last year and in theory the same permissions were copied across to the new one. I didn't get a chance to check that before leaving for the mountains though. I will be trying not to break both arms, I need some way of holding a pint glass.

1550 odd last year, will try break 2000 this year....40 miles a week, sounds doable.

Think I accidentally erased Krusty's miles (the fear of him catching me finally got to me :D) going off memory I think that I have it fixed but would robinph or the man himself be able to check so that I was right

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

I think KC got there before me and has fixed it himself now from the look of the revision history.

Right, back in for this year. Must actually keep it updated

Just thought I'd point out that for those who track their workouts with a Garmin, getting your annual mileage is just a couple of clicks away. First Click on [Reports], from the 'Report on' drop-down list, select [This year], then choose [Running] from the 'activity type' drop-down list.

    290067.png
If you do some running on a treadmill, or without your watch, you can just add them as manual activities in the calendar view.

Unfortunately, I don't have the patience for my GPS to register every run so I manually lap the first km at known markers. Therefore my GC details are always lacking the true length of the run.
Manual counting all the way as a result!

Would you not just put it on the window-sill before you start getting kitted out for your run? By contrast, I don't think I'd have the patience to manually add-up my runs!

Just signed up again for this yr. I hope that 'rule' of not increasing your mileage more than 10% only applies on a week to week basis and not year to year.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,087 ✭✭✭BeepBeep67

Off and running with a solid January 316.8 +23% from 2013.

Any way to do this with a mobile interface? I do have the Garmin Fit and Garmin Connect apps for android, but can't find the functionality.

No, unfortunately not. But nothing to stop you from hitting Garmin Connect in a web-browser and viewing 'Reports' as above.

Im a trainingpeaks man myself with the timex. Anyway... very poor start to the year. Got a chest and sinus infection back to back this year and still trying to clock up the miles. Just way back on last year. I'm afraid a man of my vintage (38 in march) will suffer later in the year. Anyway.... clocked a poor tempo run today and just updated the spreadsheet.

The only easy way was yesterday!

You're only a youngster! Sure half of the people in the top ten are older than you. Age is just a number!
