    No.

Spare/relacement barrels of the same caliber you hold a license for DO NOT require a second or additional license.
A spare or replacement barrel for a firearm will not require a separate firearms certificate, provided it is of the same calibre. But if an applicant requires a spare or replacement barrel for a firearm which would result in a change of calibre to the firearm, then a separate firearms certificate will be required and will be subject to the normal €80 fee required for a firearm certificate.

Not sure where these people get their ideas or notions of "law".

There is an old saying when in doubt:
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

A few of years I got a shogun for my daughter which came with both 12 & 20 gauge barrels. Both barrels and action have the same serial number.

She applied for the licence stating both barrels. Eventually, the licence came just stating "shotgun ...maker ...serial number" with no mention of calibre. She renewed last year and no issues.

The licence application process was hilarious.

She now lives in a very rural part of the West of Ireland, works in Social Services and is very vocal and political. Her in laws are also very involved in politics ;)

She dropped in the application in the postbox at her local station which is often unmanned. Heard nothing for a couple of months, called in on a number of occasions but nobody was there.

Eventually caught the (elderly) Guard and asked about the application. He scratched his head for a while and eventually admitted that he remembered the application but had binned it as he thought it was a joke as he had never heard of a woman getting a gun licence!

To say that she exploded is an understatement! I'm suspect that the poor Guard still suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. She wasn't impressed when she rang me to rant and I couldn't talk for laughing.

A Sergeant called out to the house the next evening, got her to sign a form and asked her to arrange for a copy of the Firearms Dealer's letter to be faxed to him. I sorted that the next day and her licence arrived three days later :)

Don't shoot the messenger, but regardless of serial numbers, etc. if there are two different caliber barrels they must have separate licenses. As is discussed on another thread in the main forum at the moment the onus is on the applicant to know this, and make sure it's correct.

So if she has one license it will not cover her for both sets of barrels. If there is no caliber on the license she would be best served ringing the station or even the FPU and finding out what is on PULSE. Then applying for the second license for the other set.

Yeah she should have two. Shotgun licences never specify a gauge.

I'll get her to do that. Thanks.
