I am trying to get back into hunting Deer next season, as some know I did hunt Deer over 30 years ago, on only securing 62 Acres for my application, I called on my relative to try acquire that extra land to send in, he will be going over all the skills I will need for this coming season, I asked could I take a few photos and was given the nod, he has been hunting for the last 40 years and hunts alone, the white section in one photo is a walk in Freezer.

Some fine, fine sets of antlers there. Shows the years of hunting in one picture.

Regardless of how good you (anyone) might think that they are it's always good to speak to, learn from, and if possible stalk with a more experienced hunter. Your relative seems to be just that. I would push him for a few stalks before the season ends to try and dip your toes in.

As said before the 62 acres is legally enough, as there is no 100 acre minimum (that i've ever been able to find in legislation), but if you can get more then it only makes it easier.

Some amazing sets there Tawny owl !!!!

Cass, I was recently refused a license on 78 acres that are walking with deer. I was told 100 acres minimum and still have the email from NPWS

As i said to Tawny, while they might refuse it there is no legal reason for it. I don't want to derail Tawny's thread with discussion of the minimum acreage as there is a thread already running which covers it.

I will say this. The NPWS do not legislate they only enforce the law. Meaning if the Wildlife Act does not state 100 acres then there is no reason for refusing it (should that be the only reason for refusing). Same as the story with .223s being issued deer licenses. The NPWS might grant them (according to some) but it's not legal as the Wildife Act does not allow for it.

So if anyone can find any legislation that states 100 acres please inform me.

Looks like a good old genuine man cave.

From the grouping on the wall to the antlers and tools.

    Class.

I got 100 Acres permission in Wicklow off the Uncle today, and an invite to tag along and carry some deer, jumped at the chance roll on next season, and he happen to say when shown the first post that its only the half of what he has and was laughing, but he did enjoy the comments and as he is not into computers he said Thank you to all the fellow Deer Hunters;)
