I don't understand smilies any more

I'm not talking about the ones here, because they're understandable enough, but I've completely lost track as to what smilies are supposed to be any more.

How in the name of 'eck is :L a laughing smiley? And what exactly is ;_; and also what is xD supposed to be? It looks like Cartman from South Park whenever he gets angry!

:L is from the Bebo days. It used to produce a laughing face when you posted it.

Did you know in some tribes the cheetah is known as the crying cat?
Because of the black stripes straight down from it's eyes.

Think it's something along those lines. Top of the "T" is the eye, the vertical line is the non-stop drip of tears.

I wouldn't say :pac: is sarcasm as such. I would use it to mean anything that is said a little tongue in cheek, or where humour is implied.

As mentioned :pac: means you're taking the piss.

However, when quoting a post from someone you're arguing with and you only respond with :pac: it's means "You're so hilariously stupid I'm not going to bother responding, lol".

If you respond with just :pac: while quoting someone you're not arguing with it's more of a "I see what you did there! lol" message.


In fact you could probably simply say that :pac: is the trollface of Boards.
