Wednesday: 7 easy miles that were anything but easy. From the waist down I'm very very tight, I think the S&C sessions are causing my muscles to stiffen up and it's affecting my running. I need to keep up the S&C to strengthen weak muscles but it's starting to piss me off that it's affecting my running. My hamstrings, quads, calfs and achilles were causing me issues. Long session of auld man stretching to try and loosen out.

Thursday: in London with work and after a long day I got 7 miles down on the treadmill followed by more stretching.

Friday: am working on a project that required me to work over the weekend, no run.

Saturday: 3 miles easy on treadmill.

Sunday: LR done as part of the Murcia marathon. I'd entered the Murcia marathon shortly after San Seb thinking that I'd be able to leverage the training and target a PB. That was before the Christmas gorge fest and distinct lack of training thereafter. Work has also been extremely busy so I have shifted my focus to Manchester in April. My work schedule changed and went from no chance of running this to a possibility if I managed things properly.

I had no intention of running the whole thing, I'm currently to fat and unfit, but I wanted to do the 5,4,3,2,1 session in a marathon setting so I flew into Alicante and got a taxi to Murcia.

Seems like a nice city but I didn't have much time to see the place apart from a short wander around on Sunday afternoon before I flew back to London for work. I did come across the maddest name for a shop I've ever seen though, I think it's Tangs local :) (see photo).

The event itself has a marathon, 10k and some ridiculous roller skating race that seemed to be very popular. I met a couple of guys I know from the UK 100 marathon club and after a quick chat I got ready to go. The marathon was due to start at 8.30, but the start was delayed as they let the skaters off first and it was 8.50 before we got going. The numbers doing the marathon seemed small, maybe 300 so I was over the start line pretty sharpish. I felt absolutely dreadful at the start and decided to change from the planned 5,4,3,2,1 session to 15 miles at as close to 7 minute pace as possible. The course is two loops isn't very scenic and doubles back on itself a bit, it's also flat and fast. I just put the head down and plodded along as best as I could, I got caught up at the rear of the 10k at one stage which was pretty annoying as I'd to weave/push through them.

Was going along ok, never feeling great and never feeling really terrible. I got to mile 15 and decided to keep going to 17 but at this stage the effort levels were going up. Got to mile 17 which wasn't that far from my hotel and did another mile, I'd fleeting notions of going to 20 but that would have entailed a longer walk/jog back so I finished at mile 18.

Happy with that, body held together, I got a few decent MP miles done and I'm still a good bit heavier and less fit than I was at San Seb. Just need to keep building on that and it'll come good.

Pretty much, choice was staying in arse hole of London or do the run. Don't get me wrong if I lined up at the start and got to mile 18 feeling fantastic I would have probably kept going to try for a PB but I knew going that I wasn't in that sort of shape.

TBH if I wasn't away the weekend it's on I'd do Seville with the same mindset (although I'd expect to get a little further than 18 before faltering :) )

Monday: was back in London for work, got to the hotel at 7.30 pm was wrecked so lay down for a nap before going to the gym, 10 hours later woke up still in my suit, was surreal didn't know where I was thought I was in a casket!! No run.

Tuesday: early morning treadmill 4 mile nursing home special. Legs felt OK head not so good!

Wednesday: you know you're auld when in the morning when you're bending down to put on your socks and you start to think is there anything else you could do while you're down there :) Feet and ankles were stiff.

5 miles early morning easy around a local loop.

7 miles easy plodding around in the dark.

    12 for day

Thursday: early start as I'd to drive to Dublin at short notice. Had a S&C session this morning, still haven't acclimatised to them yet. One exercise, had me twisting my feet from side to side while coming down onto my hunkers and back up finishing with a jump. Holy bat**** this nearly killed me, my heart rate shot up and I must have looked like some geriatric twist dancer one step away from the morticians slab!!

This evening I got in a sorry 4 mile nursing home special on the hotel treadmill while listening to some music.

Hope I look like this dude when I'm 70 :)

Friday: put a call into Toyboy to see if he wanted to do an easy 8 miler as I was coming down from Dublin. Jazus talking about reluctant! Twas like he was playing hard to get! Met up in Moyvalley and told him that I was still stiff after the S&C and I didn't want him up to his usual macho antics of dropping the pace.

Started off handy enough and he brought me on a route where every second gate seemed to have a dog that wanted a go at me. Couldn't believe it when he said it was time to turn as we'd 5 miles done (that's the benefit of company, even reluctant company!). I knew Toyboy was up to his old tricks coz every mile on the way back the pace seemed to be quickening.

Was tired towards the end but was delighted to have gotten a 10 mile progression run done. I would have probably only managed a slobby 7 slow miles on my own, so thanks B enjoyed it and thanks for making the feckin effort :)

    10 miles @ 7.40

Saturday: feeling a bit tired after the Toyboy trot and coupled with a hateful day of standing around watching people try on clothes in every shop in Galway meant I got no run done.

Sunday: brought the young lad to a soccer blitz that ran on a bit longer than anticipated so my long run entailed a bit of a rush to get in in. Eldest daughter did 2 local loops with me on her bike and then I ran down beyond Rossaveal and back. Lungs felt fine but the feet were a bit niggley and the auld body really tied up and tired over the last couple of miles.

    23 miles @ 8.13.

53 miles for the week, not great but a start in the right direction.

For the next few weeks I'm gonna do a weekend long run of between 18-24 miles with one midweek session, everything else will be easy. Ecoli has sent me on a tasty list of sessions to choose from.

Well done, some nice results in Trim Boardsies, and well done to Tang to ;)

Monday: feet very stiff and a bit sore, flapped along like a pissed penguin through an uncomfortable 4 mile nursing home special. Spent ages trying to loosen out the feet in the evening.

Tuesday: got a very early morning massage, plantar in both feet is rigid and the small muscles on the top of the feet are incredibly sore and tight. Very painful and felt very sorry for myself heading off for 6 miles very easy. Cheered myself up with the breakfast of champions, a good hearty fry! Felt guilty immediately after licking the last bit of grease off the plate and decided to do another few miles later to burn off the fry calories! Got 6 miles easy done in the fading light around Barna golf club.

    12 miles for the day.

Wednesday: heading to London tomorrow and I drove up to Dublin for an afternoon meeting that got cancelled at the last minute so I decided to do one of Ecolis sessions in Santry demense. Wasn't really feeling the love so I picked what I thought would be one of the easier ones.

    3 x 10 mins @ HM pace off 3 mins recovery.

Had only time for a short wu/cd and wasn't really up for this, struggled with the breathing on the first rep and I kept thinking my foot was gonna fall off with every little twang. Feet felt much better today but I need to keep on top of it if I don't want to be sidelined and doing toe yoga for weeks!

    Rep 1 @ 6.25 pace
    Rep 2 @ 6.22
    Rep 3 @ 6.21

Happy enough to have it done.

    7.5 miles for day.

Won't get much done Thursday or Friday and if the feet continue to improve I might do a long run Saturday and the Gort 8k on Sunday

Thurs: feckin ankles seemed to have swollen up on the short flight over to London, spent ages trying to massage them before getting a sloppy 4 mile nursing home trundle on the hotel treadmill.

Fri: had set the alarm to get up at 5am, intentions stronger than will power, cuddled the pillow and went back to sleep. Flew back to Dublin early evening and couldn't find my car. I rarely park in T1 short term and I spent over a hour looking for it, I was sure I was in the right place (was pretty sure I'd parked in "red D") and was starting to think my car was stolen! Some lad approached me and asked me was I ok, felt like a bit of a tool telling him I couldn't find my car. "Are you sure you're in the right block"? he asked. "What" says I. "This is block B, block A is to your left over there". Said thanks and scurried off a bit sheepishly to check A, sure enough my car was in "red D" block A.

Tisn't exactly obvious and I was really pissed off and to add insult to injury I'd to pay extra for my hour wandering around block B!!!

Had intended to do a superman change in the car and do an easy 5 miler but at this stage I'd have preferred to glaze my arse with a marinade and stick it in a tank of starving piranhas rather than run!

    No run!

Sat: was considering doing a long run today and the Gort 8k on Sunday but a combination of family stuff and the foot still not being 100% meant I only did 7 miles at easy-steady and the Gort 8k was off the agenda.

    7 @ 7.30

Sun: got 12 hours sleep last night but still felt lethargic when I got up! Was tempted to take the easy option and slob out on the couch for the day. Mrs TbL wanted the kids to get some exercise so I got the gear on and did a kids relay, they did a combination of cycling and running and one did a loop with me on an electric scooter! Pace was up and down and the foot behaved until mile 16 when it started to complain. Nice and blustery and there was a decent chill in the wind.

    20 miles @ 8.34

Just under 55 miles for the week which was lower than I was hoping for but I was trying to keep the foot niggle at bay so all in all not too bad.
