Talking to my cousin in Facebook, he was looking to trace his A4 TDI for aN E36 328i Touring, beautiful car with loads if work done.
His mates comes along and days something to the effect of, "Why would ya want a dirty petrol yoke? You've a quare little rocket there lad."
In the dirtiest Carlow em accent you can imagine.

    I let rip after that.

Yea, the start button came in with the E90 to everything BMW/Mini. I don't see the point really... I saw that 335 too, I hate the black badges and wheels on it though... Easily sorted obviously for a few quid, and he has the original wheels too!

Seems cheap no? For an 07

I know I drive a diesel but that doesn't make me a fanboy.

    That's a sad situation there :(

I remember back when I started driving there were evos, impreza's, heck there was even a 34 GTR in Tullamore where I'm based out of. All gone and replaced by diesels or glanza's.

It's ****ing mad, I mention that if I was to buy another car in the morning it would probably be a Silvia and what happens?
I get called a ****ing eejit... Stupid saps haven't a clue what a real car feels like.
They honestly think 130 from a fwd diesel is sports car stuff.

And in 2008 if you mentioned an s15 you were basically a god and mocked for a diesel (You still are :))
The second I can make a switch back, which may actually be in the near future I want another Lancer Evo V. That or a B5 S4.

My friends can barely understand the want for an evo and the S4 is totally out due to it being old (same age as the Lancer ) and for the tax band!

    Live a little :)

Exactly, I remember saying on this i'd be choosing between a 9-5 aero or a diesel merc, I didn't get an aero but i got the next best thing, yeah it has a fcuk off engine in it and the tax is a bit much, but its the first car i properly love getting into each morning and going somewhere in it, and as the problems come I'll sort them out, simples!

It dawned on me some time ago that with all the diesel Quasqui 1.5 dci things - there will be people in the coming years - who get to their 20s and will never have sat into a traditional saloon or hatchback - or anything that isn't a 1.5 or 1.6 diesel.

They won't seek out alternative type cars I fear - because their experience of a car will be a Quasqui 1.5 dci

Its the way of the world I think

And thats all that matters to a car lover :)

I know my car is a diesel and some people hate it for just that, but it's a quick daily car and it does give me that buzz that I missed during my Golf and Passat college days when I felt lost :)

Exactly :) Plus after all myself, yourself and dgt were though with it I've grown to it, it might have a few problems and so on and people will laugh because of the "sure its only an expensive vectra" mentality, but it's mine :pac: And again that's all that matters with yours too, once it puts a silly grin on your face thats it

Everything gives hassle man, it just seems like yours done it in one mad streak :)
You should have a long run of great free from maintenance motoring.

I've had that for the past year and am terrified of what is coming :)

Oh we're not out of the tunnel yet, I've en engine light that wont quit and the nct on friday, all signs are pointing to the cps sensor and coilpack, apparently it's a common fault on them around my mileage, start it in the mornings and it cuts out straight away, start it again, and rev it a little and it's fine for the whole day  But after a bit of rooting and forum stalking it seems i'm not the only one with it

when yours does hit the fan gimme a shout and i'll lend a hand whatever way i can

That's pure crank sensor symptoms alright, expensive?

It's due a turbo as you and others have heard at the meets etc :) But it just will not give in, I think the regular services are testiment to it lasting!

Haha 126 quid for the sensor, brand new like, and If i attempt to diy it 0 if i get it done by a mechanic, about 80 quid more, he's in love with me, been over to him the last 3 fridays getting stuff done, so we'l see what happens i guess, the services could be something alright!

So, from Monday I'll have no morning commute through city center traffic. I'll be walking distance from my new office.

It'll also really help with the fuel bills when I replace the car with something more powerful soon. :pac:

    maintenance free motoring.

I won't list all the cars i had but the most maintenance free motoring cars I had(apart from basic services) was my two civics and my carina e. I had an astra that was maintenance free as well untill the timing belt went but that was a very cheap car to keep me going for a while.

I had a focus and the coil pack went if I had known it was that I would have changed it myself. The car just lost power one day and was running bad. Mechanic said it's a common problem in them.

Saw a lovely w12 A8L this morning. Even here in London these are fairly unusual - much more likely see a TDi. Personalised plate tooW12ADK.

Just wondering - Santa Fe here failed the NCT recently on a non functioning electric window.

It obviously doesn't need the test lane to do the retest - just check the window is working - which it is now.

So does the visual retest have to be done in the test centre where it failed originally - or can it be bought to ANY test centre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

After you fail, you must book a re-test within 21 days, otherwise you'll need to do a full test again.

Was it the driver's window, or a passenger one. I'm hearing conflicting reports about whether a passenger window is actually required to function of it it's just the drivers window.
