Hello,I was not sure where to post this thread but this seemed like the best place.
I am doing a project in school about weapons and how they have evolved starting from swords, bows and arrows and ending up at the Tsar Bomba.
Midway through my project I had the idea to show some casings from several weapons eg .22,.308,.357,.45 and if possible a .50 BMG. anything really.
So far I have only managed to get a 9mm casing and a .556 Casing (Drilled of course,im aware of the laws behind spent ammunition.
So yeah, doe's anyone know where I can get ANY spent casings (Drilled and unusable)

It's still illegal for you to possess them unlicenced even if they're drilled.

I seen on ebay different casings in a paper weight would that be illegal?

Also in a gun shop they were selling a ammo belt of empty 223 cartridges and one with a bullet head in it.Im pretty sure that illegal

Whats the law pertaining to spent casings ?

The law states that a cartridge, case, bullet, etc whether fired or live is still/always classed as a live round. As such the requisite license for each caliber is required to be in possession of any component part of a round.

There is a degree of common sense applied to the practical implementation of this by An Gardaí. If you're a well known criminal with empty brass chances are you'll face jail. If you are without convictions, never been in trouble and wearing a key chain, ammo belt of spent cases or have a display case of empty brass then you should be fine.

HOWEVER - Should be fine does not mean it's legal or okay. In the one case where a person was charged with having live ammo (it was a wall mounted display of all different types of spent rounds) the case was thrown out. It still made it to court though and other than the trouble/grief of that experience the cost would not be insignificant.

Authorisation from An Gardaí or they have licenses for them.
