Look at womens soccer and Sarah Rowe. she had played for irish womens team(was on underage teams with Katie McCabe and others at world cup_ but hadnt played for years. went back playing a few months ago maybe to try make world cup squad and didnt make squad.

Nothing wrong with widening the player pool. she may keep playing after anyway even if she doesnt make olympics.

2 captains in their 20s in two years. Griffin "retired" from rugby but Fryday is still playing, she's just done with the IRFU. No wonder after being trotted out to the press all year to assure them that all was well when the dog on the street could see there were massive problems with the coach and supports.

Writing was on the wall when she turned town a "professional"contract for whatever pittance they were offering, she's better off at Exeter.

Ireland lost the captain who was the great lock player. Maybe Ireland women need to come back to the top lebel rugby above 10 years. I live in Japan. Before a cupple years ago, Ireland women came to Japan in august. (then temparature above 30°c, and humidity 70~80%) I thought that who planned that crazy, idiot and meaningless tour. Even in that situation, she showed us very impressive leadership. I miss her from the heart.

Italy beat Spain and Fiji qualified from Oceania and Colombia beat Brazil to join the 3 already qualified in WX3

  • Registered Users Posts: 739 ✭✭✭minitrue

Fiji ... yeah I'm feeling even less confident now we can get out of WXV 3 with no coach, manager or captain. The managers departure seems to have slipped by most unnoticed though to me that unexplained silent departure (open to correction) feels like the most damning indictment of the supposed fresh start/new era/rebuild from the IRFU.

But don't worry about it, the IRFU are spending more money on the women so everything is fine, nothing to see here, certainly no need for any Irish journalists to risk being added to the exiles by asking any questions.

Anyone know of any stream of the Women's u20 games in Italy today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,763 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

    Lost both games

To Italy 17-14 and Scotland 21-12

Yes. Lots of great individual effort, but they didn't seem to have gelled as a whole team. They were better against the Scots, but the Italians really had the measure of them.

Poor form form the IRFU socials with their "good luck in your training match" tweet 2 hrs before the game. The Scots and Italians at least acknowledged that something was happening.

Sure, there's bigger things in rugby this month but they were far more interested in pushing how the world cup strip isn't quite as awful a shade of green as it first looked than acknowledging the first u20 women's international tie...

    Onwards and upwards...

    Connacht Starting Team

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,763 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

    Thanks Syd.

I've said it before bit 9rfu 9f they want to help women's game need to help some more clubs getting high level ASAP

Just look at make up of some of the squads

Bohs in Munster. For example. Not healthy that there so dominant and it then has knock on effect with other clubs and league as a whole

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,038 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    fully agreed.

delighted as i am to see Sarah Delaney from my own club start at hooker for leinster, its probably only a matter of time before shes co-opted into one of the big 4.

I appreciate that a lot of these girls would be of college going age so a move to a dublin team is almost inevitable for a leinster based player, or UL Bohs for munster.

Hopefully wicklow and ballincollig (and galwegians to an extent) can continue their upward trend.

they need serious help though, and im not sure theres really any appetite in the irfu for change

Wins for Connacht and Munster today

Does anyone know where the Ulster Munster game was? The lack of crowd was imo a bit disappointing.

Connacht Leinster seemed to have a decent crowd.

Great to see Connacht win. Surprise there.

It looks like there was next to no 7s regulars involved in the interprovincials. I presume they are in their offseason or preseasons and not allowed participate.

This is disappointing part of the schedule. Many of the womens sevens players would add to their provinces for 7s.

I presume that the interpros schedule was planned as a trial/preseason before the womens xv.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,763 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

To be expected they didn't appear. 7s series doesn't start until December so doubt they lre in any pre season so are on off season.

Ulster beat Connacht 36-14 to win a first interpro game since 2012

Munster Leinster final half time 14-14

Bad news for women's rugby. BBC and ITV both refuse to broadcast England women’s rugby

England v Canada matches will be broadcast only on the RFU's YouTube channel, after failing to find a TV broadcaster
