Escorts were manufactured long after the focus was released. I think they stopped production in 2000

Yep my dad had a 99 escort gti they had skirts, spoiler, front fogs and all electrics with white dials too. His was the 1.6 I think handled really well for an escort too.

    Hmm.
That's a strange one as the earlier years of that same model (the saloon version of the escort) were badged as "Orion". I had a '94 one a while back and it was exactly the same as that car. I wonder when the naming changed as mine was a '94, that's a '97 and the focus replaced the escort around '99-'00.

September 1993 so yours must have been quite elderly when new. Saloon version of the Escort. There also was a saloon Fiesta but we didn't get that

The Focus came out in 99 and the escort finished in 2000, quite correct. Saloon finished in 98.

    Rover P4?

Yes. Looks like the smallest of the straight six, the 90 model.

The focus was released in 1998 and the escort continued for another 2 years until 2000 when production finally ended. The escort van continued until 2002.

I wouldn't anyway. Never liked them. Always found them horrible to drive. The interior also isn't a nice place to be and the seats very uncomfortable.

I think you nailed it there. You learn something new every day.
It's listed as a beetle though. Were they based on a beetle chassis, or was everything built from new?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭Nekarsulm

Yes, based on a Beetle donor vehicle.
