Bray-Area Cooks: There is apparently a hostess trolley for sale in the new charity shop (Cast Aways) beside the Gem in the Quinsborough Road.

This is the kind of thing though I don't know what model is actually up there:

    IE9OKFx.jpg

Hostess trolleys are incredibly useful when you're preparing a big meal with a lot of side dishes like say, Christmas dinner - you can cook the various components hours ahead of when they'll be needed and the trolley keeps them perfectly warm without cooking them or drying them out. The only thing that can't be kept in them for long is anything really crisp like roast potatoes.

I've got the one my grandmother bought in the early '70's and I really have no idea how anyone manages to do a big multicourse dinner without one.

^ We inherited ours when my brother and his wife split up! It only gets used at Christmas really but that one occasion earns it's keep for the rest of the year.

Annnnd it tastes fab! Only "downside" is that it's really really hot (grand for me, not so much for the OH), I'll have to put in much less cayenne pepper the next time, there'll definitely be a next time!

How will you store that and how long will it keep for, Ivy?

A bit of finely chopped red chilli would be a lovely alternative to the cayenne, not as hot and the tiny red speckles look great in the jar :)

Can I ask what recipe you used? I have made it twice and didn't like it at all.

A bit of advice please. I have some bits and pieces of kitchen stuff that I'd like to sell - pasta machine, some baking tins - stuff like that. I am a total online selling virgin. Which is the best site to use for stuff like that? I notice that DoneDeal doesn't have postage/collections option - so how does that work? Does the buyer pay extra or am I expected to pay that? The tins are fine the but pasta machine is really heavy!

    Thanks.

Hiya, Adverts.ie is handy for that sort of thing. As long as the item is being sold for less than €30 there's no 'success fee' (i.e. it doesn't cost you to list/sell the item) and over €30 it only costs you a couple of euro if the item sells. You can choose 'collection only', 'to be arranged', 'post/courier', or a combination of these. You can accept payment by PayPal if you have it, or by postal order etc. I've sold a good few bits through the site and found it very user friendly.

DoneDeal can have your heart broken with phone calls. I prefer using the likes of Adverts as you deal with it all when you want to and look up peoples' history.

As for postage, you just specify in your ad if postage is included or extra, or if it's pick up only.

I am already broken hearted that I never used the pasta machine, so I don't want to be broken hearted again.

    Thanks very much.

Ah no, what type of pasta machine is it?

    No crubeens!

No, an awful lot of work to clean them, apparently.
When the slaughter house butcher heard we were taking the carcass to another butchers, he said he had to cut them off.
    Not mad on crubeens anyway:rolleyes:

    Got the cheeks, though.

That looks amaazing. Would you have a recipe for that? We're trying to eat a bit more healthily and have basically cut out bread except for spelt which is lovely but the slow energy release of porridge would be great.

    Thanks,
    Loire.

Someone on here posted the recipe a week or so ago. So healthy.

    Any thoughts on freezing cheese?

No, l haven't lost it, yet.

l made a big batch of pizza ingredients - dough and sauce, which l froze. I also had some peppers and onion leftover, so I froze those too. I now have half a large bag of shredded mozerella left over, so I am thinking of throwing it into a container and freezing it.

Shouldn't be a problem. We freeze blocks of cheddar regularly & it is fine. Sure you can buy frozen mozzarella in the supermarkets. Go for it.

I have it stored in jam jars (it made 2 and a half jars). The recipe doesn't say how long it'll keep but I'd imagine between 6 months and a year if the jar isn't opened.

Am I the only one that hates chilli/cayene/any kind of spicy powder? I'm not sure why, but the chilli is spicier, but I can handle it. The powder though, always seems to stick in the back of my throat.

I suppose it's the nature of powder isn't it, spreads itself around more! I feel you get more flavour and less heat with the fresh stuff.
