I'm feeling really spoiled today , it's my birthday and I got a fancy food processor, I don't have one and obviously he must have picked up on me giving out about it. I didn't think he was listening to me.

It's got the blender and whisk attachments with it and it fancy enough to be left on the worktop and not in the press.

Is it wrong to be happy about a getting a kitchen gadget for your birthday ?

Then my family arrived over with a voucher for the tannery and it's booked for tomorrow night, they knwo if they gave me the voucher, it could me months before I use it.

Good lord no! I got a Kenwood processor for my birthday from my siblings a few years ago and I LOVE it! I am in fact, currently making a list of kitchen items I want in my new house and hoping that some of them will come as housewarming pressies from my family :D I would make the ideal bride - no cash please, just toasters, kettles, pots and assorted kitchen accessories!

I was actually embarassed telling my sister today what I got cause I knew she wouldn't understand but I love it.

Need to make use of it now, he's expecting even better dinners now:D

I would love kitchen gadgets for my birthday.

I did mention to my boyfriend and mother that I'd like a breadmaker for my birthday recently and was told that I was not getting that, but instead stuff for myself :)

May have to treat myself to that breadmaker someday! :p

Kitchen appliances and gadgets are more acceptable as presents nowadays. In days gone by if a man gave that sort of gift he'd have risked having it wrapped around his neck :D

How will I know when I've found the man I want to marry?? He's the man that will give me a Kenwood instead of a silly engagement ring!!

    Happy birthday Fizzcoff :)

    Happy Birthday fitzcoff.

I remember (when I was about 12 in fairness) buying my Mam a carving knife one time for Christmas. She nearly used it on me :D

Anyone know how I should season a cast iron pot? I've had it for years and haven't seasoned it before. It's not a Le Creuset one, just Aldi or Lidl...can't remember which.
I have one from TK Maxx and the instructions that came with it said to lightly coat it in veg oil and then put into an oven at 200 degrees for an hour.

Doesn't need to be done all the time, just every few months or so, depending on how often you use it. I don't use my all the time, only the odd time.

Isn't it supposed to be three months salary or some daft calculation like that? In which case I'd be looking for the whole new kitchen with super-cool gadgets... oh the bliss!

On a more serious note, I sometimes think that feminism/political correctness did a terrible disservice to women who happen to like cooking. People are too afraid give kitchen gadgets! :(

I use mine at least once a week. It's just the bottom of it is getting more worn looking and I don't know if it's meant to do that.

    Happy Birthday Fitzcoff!
My fella has gotten me a Kenwood mixer and a sewing machine for different birthdays, because I asked for them! I'd much prefer something like that, that I'll actually use and enjoy! :)

thanks for all the birthday wishes,

I'm looking forward to trying the Tannery ( Paul Flynn's restaurnat in Dungarvan) tonight, I was there once almost 8 years ago and my hubby has never been there.

Has anyone been there and have they any recommendations

I like the idea of using vermouth for white wine. We always seem to have a bottle of red on the side for cooking but rarely white. This is because I use white wine in cooking more than red but we drink red more often. I hate to open a bottle just to use a dash in cooking unless we are planning to drink white. This vermouth idea could be the answer I'm looking for.:D

    Tried it.
    Not impressed.
    Far too sweet and flavoured.
Now what to do with an opened bottle of cheapo vermouth?

    Make martinis !! ðŸ¸
The nicest vermouth is Noilly Prat - about €19 a bottle but lasts forever. I always use it in risottos ect

It was very popular back on the 70's mixed with white lemonade, ice and a slice of lemon :)

But this bottle cost under €5 in Lidl!
    It is sweet and nasty.

I already have a bottle of Noilly Prat, so I really have no use for this stuff.

Well I'd bin it then, there's no point in wasting ingredients or mixers trying to do something with it.

I've always been intrigued by Sous Vide cooking. Just the idea of a specific temp to get the perfect change in the proteins.

I'm not going to pay hundreds to do it at home if course. But heres my ridiculously simply set up. Pot of water and a digital thermometer. Toggle the lowest heat setting on/off to keep it to +/- 1degree.

First up, a test run. 62 Degree Egg.
It's been in there for 60 minutes now, time to come out.

I have a heap of wraps in the freezer. I fancy making tortilla chips with them... Just cut them up, bit of oil, place flat onto baking tray, into oven, sprinkle with salt, serve? Am I missing anything crucial?

I totally misread that as "I have a heap of wasps in the freezer". Was wondering what crazy culinary adventures you were planning!
