The list is only half done and already i am face palming

they have killzone 3 higher than metroid prime 2 and deus ex

I hate these kind of lists where they display only one per page. There's no way in hell I'm going to click through 100 pages. Just tell me when they get to number one.

I've only played 16 of those (am pretty much exclusively a PC gamer so don't get the chance to play the console-only entries), but own another half dozen that I haven't had the time to try yet.

No Bioshocks yet though? Are all three going to be in the top 50?

IGN, full of **** as usual. Most of the games on there came out before most of the staff was even born, I doubt they even played them.

The only top100 list I've enjoyed over the past few years was GameTrailers, because they actually know what they're talking about, and there was a video for every entrant

well it can be played as a shooter the same way you can play Hitman and Splinter Cell as shooters

and I doubt very much if any of them actually played Marathon as well

Their Top100 list was based on Game Trailers, which is their thing. I think they'd be better suited to make a list on the subject than most.
It's all subjective anyways.

these lists are always designed so badly. Why is Unreal Tournament behind Bulletstorm? well it's an older game and probably not as polished so if you were to go purely on "which is better" and time wasn't an issue (as in all games are considered to be published at the same time on a super PC), yeah bulletstorm is probably better.

but then you have rise of the triad above both UT and bulletstorm when, based on the initial principles on the list, we are meant to take everything at face value... so is the iconic unreal tournament is really not as good as rise of the triad and bulletstorm? makes absolutely no sense and id say from numbers 100 - 10 they literally pull the names out of their arse and put them down in arbitrary positions. numbers 50 - 48 are Quake, Doom and Unreal. three games just plonked together probably because the editor went "umm more 90s games need to go in" and each one of those games had a massive impact at the time they were released.
its like trying to make a "best rock songs of all time list" and having say Communication Breakdown below some Linkin Park song but not really being able to explain it or say why

I got as far as Bulletstorm at #66 when I gave up reading. Bulletstorm is better than XIII, Star Trek: Voyager: Elite Force, Red Faction, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Aliens vs. Predator, Metroid Prime 2 and Counter Striker:source, yeah right.

Also Jedi Knight only at #93 are you ****ing kidding me.

I just went and replayed the first level now. For obvious reasons the graphics aren't up to much but the game plays solidly, like a shooter of the time. I haven't got the lightsaber or the force powers yet, of course, and that is when the game really gets fun. I loved Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith and while I would be more likely to play Jedi Knight 2 or Jedi Academy they still hold up well.

As a "shooter", Bulletstorm is fantastic. One of the most fun games I had played for a long time.

I'm inclined to not comment on these ridiculous click-bait lists, and I'd tend to think of a direct press release from a company as more objective and reliable than anything IGN comes out with...

But Halo 2 at number seven? I'd imagine even Bungie would disagree with that one.

It honestly just seems redundant to have a list as large as 100 for shooters. Is being the 100th best shooter really even that much of an honour? It's too specific for a list this size and it inevitably will suffer from some sequel fatigue. It's interesting that despite the high number of shooters from this generation compared to others that only 3 of the top 20 are from this gen too (Bioshock, CoD4 and TF2, did I miss any?).

But when it came out it was fantastic, and maybe they're looking at the game for when it came out and the effect it had then, not the effect it has now!

Or it's just a terrible list.

It's a stupid list anyway but did Medal of Honor: Allied Assault not make it, it's the best WWII FPS there is imo and one of the best PC shooters ever. Still play it from time to time and it's MP online is still loads of fun.

Bioshock Infinite at 31?! As good as L4D and Battlefield 2 etc were, they dont hold a candle in terms of scope to B:I.

only played it there a while ago..christ on a bike its bad!.

but played it to death when it was out and dont remember it being like that at all.Probably got me into the whole fps genre

But Wolfenstein 3D hasn't really aged badly.
Sure it's not as feature rich or graphically impressive as modern titles but it's still a hell of a lot of fun to play.
In that regard I really don't think you can say it has aged worse than Goldeneye.

We played so much goldeneye in college ! I know it may have aged worse than other games, but at the time it was fantastic fun. 4 player split screen was great at the time.
