Like tomorrow. Pretty damn excited, finally an alternative to gamestop. And we'll get a few extra stores with the xtravision partnership.

Which stores are opening tomorrow ?

Depends on what stock they get in, I would expect a massive queue of people looking for GTA V, PS4 and XBOX ONE bookings from them. Hope they knock Gamestop out of the water with their prices and deals.

I thought it was monday. The henry street store seems to have been full of people working all week.

Probably stocking shelves, training new people and generally getting ready. I'm looking forward to checking out the Crescent in Limerick next Friday.

Unfortunately that was part the reason they got into trouble the last time, not the only reason or the biggest but it was definitely part of it, that said Xtra Vision have been aggressively going after Gamestops trade in business in the last few weeks, in the national press they ran ads advertising splinter cell for 4.99 with 2 traded games and drew attention to GS being 9.99 for the same offer with a shorter list of games vs XV list of 400 games. Later that same day GS sent me an email slashing the price of that offer to .99c so I would say it's game on between them now, we'll see that happens when HMV enter the fray.

Good to get them back and it will be interesting to see what has changed.

It is a pity that the Grafton Street branch is not re-opening as that it the closest one to my office. It will be good to have them back to be able to go in and browse. But as to where my money goes it will always be to whoever is cheapest whether that is an online store or a bricks and mortar store.

HMV were sometimes the same price as amazon. Hence why they were the only shop I bought games from.

Seeing as they have been closed the past 6 months how do you know if they are as expensive as gamestop, do you have a time machine that took you to Friday to see their prices, if so can I get tomorrow nights Euro Millions numbers from you.

I don't know about hmv prices, but I agree on Amazon. The prices became really good for console games. I can't believe that I got GTA V on Amazon for 33£ where's GameStop sells it for 60eu... Online... Yeah, I won't get it on launch, but 20eu will stay in my pocket.

Rent was to high, when they did lower it loads of clothes shops came in for the building, Dundrum is just up the road on the Luas, Liffey Valley is opening too, hope they all have some good offers, I bought 4 Blurays in HMV Belfast yesterday for £10, it's some special offer they have on in the UK stores, DVDs CDs and Blurays all 4 for £10, should be 4 for €15 here with the crooked exchange rate stores always use.

€40/45 was the normal console game price in HMV before they closed.

HMV for the most part were quite competitive with amazon and now in the UK they are blowing them out of the water. While HMV's online presence has yet to get up and running the instore price for products is generally a lot cheaper than amazon. They are selling new release Arrow Blu-Rays for 9.99 while amazon have them for 12.89. Their 4 for 10 pound offer has Blu-Rays including Luck season one, Treme series 2 and a slew of others. Luck on it's own is 20 pound on amazon. yes HMV can be rather expensive but to say that amazon are cheaper is a mistake. HMV's game prices are excellent and 9 times out of 10 it was the same price if not cheaper on release day than amazon. The way in which they dropper the price of games was better than anyone else and after a few months a recently released title would be 18-28 euro instore while Gamestop still wanted 60 euro and amazon were looking for 40 euro.

I recall hearing whispers that the revamped HMV was going to do away with games entirely - I assume that has since been discredited, and I'd be surprised if they did. I doubt we'll be back to the good old days of 42.99-44.99 new releases either way, though: even Smyths have done away with their loyalty cards, showing that there's a real push back towards RRP. Still, even a euro or two difference will at least make the marketplace more competitive again.

Still, even a euro or two difference will at least make the marketplace more competitive again.

The plan is to concentrate more on music and film but games will still be a major part of the store. At least they are in England. Brother was over in Leeds recently and found a number of recent releases and special edition sets for next to nothing in the HMV there. He said that the pricing for new releases, while not as good as it used to be was still considerably cheaper than gamestop. He also picked up all the series of Breaking Bad on Blu-Ray for 20 pound and Series 1-5 of Sons of Anarchy for 28. So here's hoping that HMV can remain competitive and in business and aren't simply trying to make the company look all bright and shiny to possible buyers.

Even if HMV throw on 5-10 euro more on games prices than before it still wouldn't be hard to beat Gamestop who have really jacked up the prices of late. They're charging 60 euro for Rayman Legends which is 10 more than Smyths and 14 more than Argos. When I went in to buy Deadly Premonition a few weeks back, a game released at a budget price they asked me for 60 euro.

More options are better, having them have to put that bit extra into it to get sales. If I get change from a €50 I'm happy, if it's €40-45 online I'll pay the extra €5 or so to get it now.

TBH, games are the only thing I typically went to HMV for, and increasingly the DVDs / BluRays I buy are 90% from the specialist labels they don't stock anyway. That 10%, maybe the odd discounted BluRay in HMV. But it was games where they were beyond the pack. Even outside of new release prices, I've noticed far fewer and far smaller discounts without them around. You could usually rely on HMV to knock the price down to around 29.99 within a few weeks of release, but that's not quite as common in Gamestop or Smyths now. Again, better sales is one thing sorely lacking since HMV packed up - let's hope there's somewhat of a return to that when they reopen later this week.
