The 'This Game Is P***ing Me Off & It's About To Go Out The Window' thread

In the spirit of gamer rage, I thought I'd create this thread where people could document experiences with games that really p***ed them off.

For me, at the moment it's Super Stardust on the Vita. I've lost count of the amount of times I've nearly torn the analogues from the Vita trying to dodge those seriously annoying asteroids! And don't even get me started on the bosses!

    What's yours?

There are a couple of games from years ago. Goldeneye, Mario Kart and Killer Instinct spring to mind.

Goldeneye it was the Facility level, trying to get it done under 2:05 I think.

Mario Kart, trying endlessly to shave off time on the first ghost level.

Killer Instinct was trying to get the 48 hit combo with Orchid.

Great games (Killer..meh) but many's a controller was fired about the place all the same!

at the moment in Sine Mora, there is a part where you have to stay with some rubbish going through a maze of lasers. driving me mad. also the metal gear ray fight in MGS 2. just stupid

Rage way too often. Nearly threw the Vita at the wall yesterday playing LOTR Lego and it wasn't even that hard.

Broke a controller on the end boss of GOW2

Always found something like COD MP, which I do like, starts off well and then rage slowly builds to the point I become a different person.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭shuffles03

Another one was Fallout 3 - saving the game in the wrong position only to load it back up and be shot dead immediately.....again and again and AGAIN!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,493 ✭✭✭RedXIV

haven't truely raged since I was about 17 and even then I took it out on my brother rather than the game (SFII:Turbo) but the fury is still memorable!

Think I just don't have the patience anymore :( If I die 8 or 9 times in a row I just turn off the game

One point in Catherine had me launch the controller for the first time ever. One of the God of War series too, where you have to climb up columns of blades. I must have tried 100 times before I got it.

Trying to complete Killzone 2 on the highest difficulty setting a few years back. There was one part just after you crossed a bridge that I simply could not get past, I came as close as I have ever come to breaking the controller.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭Klair88

I'm a serious Platinum hunter so rage comes often from trying to 100% games. Never break my controllers though. If i'm stuck at a certain part or feel the burn coming i usually just relax and play a different game.

95% of the time, when i go back to the rage part i can clear it easily so that's my game-plan for rage!

The game that tempted me the most attempt destruction of the universe probably would of been MotorStorm RC or some of the VR mission in MGS2.

Playing COD online back in the day made me into a right angry mess sometimes so i gave playing online multiplayer. (Except BF3&BF4. Those are boss.)

Any version of champion ship or football manager where your top of the table by a considerable margin yet consitently lose to the bottom half randomly and for no reason you can figure out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

Had a few minor bouts of this recently with Bioshock 2 but nothing compared to the full on vein popping rage of the PES games back in the PS2 days. Scraping a much needed 0-0 draw, then in the 88th minute, boom, the AI scores.........:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Hah, few controllers got a battering in my house!

Escort missions. Best/Worst example being Spartan Total Warrior

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,268 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Going for the Big Boss emblem in MGS4.

Not allowed to die, not allowed to kill anyone, not allowed to use health items, complete the game in less than 5 hours, no alert phases and do it on the hardest difficulty setting.

Most of the game was fine but try doing the motorbike part with those rules. Nearly drove me insane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,055 ✭✭✭OmegaRed

More recently - Assassin Creed 3 - the chase Hickey mission. I must have done it 30 times. And then try getting 100% sync... arrrg!!!!

Throwing pads around the room cause a game is frustrating you? You people need help.

Although when i was about 10 i nearly strangled my friend to death cause he kept beating me in Street Fighter 2 with Dhalsim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Mortal Kombat ( new one ) last boss. The only time I was so pissed off that I even threw a controller at the wall. I still havent beaten the fecker. Stupid unfair fight. I am not a Fighting game gamer, so I suck at them.

Starcraft 2 is a nerdrage pinnacle. My last mouse died, because of it. I banged it up the table so hard the buttons went dead.

Other then that just a random "****" and "die" in single player games. I dont reallt rage much in multiplayer shooters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,454 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

Pro Evo 6. I smashed three controllers off the wall playing that game. Swung that ****er round and round and then, whammo. When one of them didn't break I had to bite it open then smash it off the wall. It was sublime when you scored, but so frustrating when you concede sometimes. Then I had to go find another one to lash in to the PC to play a week or so later when I felt I could take it again.

It's the only game I've ever ragequit at, that I can recall right now. There have been games I've given up on, but never totally lost it and gone nuts.

I went the wrong way at the start and repeatedly got my ass handed to me by skeletons and ghosts. Was days before I realised I was going the wrong way :D That game drove me to within an inch of my sanity.

I'm not too bad these days but raged quite a bit in my teenage years, Pro Evolution and NFS Underground on the PS2 are the two that immediately come to mind. Always hated those matches on the old Pro Evo games where you just couldn't score no matter how hard you tried then ended up conceding a fluky goal. In NFS, being first for the entire race only to crash head on into a civilian car on the last turn

I've mellowed quite bit now (still using my original xbox controller 6 years later:cool:) but there's still a few games that get the blood boiling, Dark Souls probably the main culprit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Spelunky right now. I mentioned elsewhere that I don't ever want to play it on the Vita because while you can throw a joypad at the wall in frustration, it doesn't work so well for handhelds.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,235 ✭✭✭returnNull

demon/dark souls because of the difficulty level and most Call Of Duty mp,only because the CoD community is full of sh1tbags(and dont get me started about those camping french pr1cks,no wonder they get invaded every war, hiding in corners with shotguns :pac: )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,580 ✭✭✭✭Riesen_Meal

BioShock Infinite was the first game "this gen" that got the better of me, I played it on hard and got stuck for a bit on a boss battle and the rage made me fire my Xbox pad at the Window...

Only managed to crack the battery door on the controller and a minor scuff!

Fifa 13 has recently began to infuriate me... The two examples from this evening being:

I win about 6/7 games in a row, playing some great stuff and then all of a sudden I play a game where i can't string 2 passes together. The ball literally will not go to my players, my players won't make their usual runs, the referees give everything against me and it just feels like I have an imaginary momentum bar that has hit rock bottom.

Also, I played a game Germany vs Madrid. It was less than 10 minutes in and all the players had full stamina after a kickout. The ball breaks into acres of space and my Ozil is running for it, then his Ozil just gradually catches up with my Ozil, passes him out and comfortably reaches the ball before him?! I mean What the f***>?!?!

Between that, having to play 90% of online season games in the rain and not being able to attack for the first 5 minutes in the fear you'd score and the other f****r would quit without penalty.. I swear I'll have a stroke if i keep playing it :o

There is a bit at the end of Last Window with a music box that is infuriating. I got past it but I still don't know how.

I have an old Yu-Gi-Oh game for the GBA that tends to annoy the hell out of me, and at times makes me want to chuck it out. Cards in it have a number of points assigned to them, and grinding to get more points so you could add better cards was such an absolute chore that it made you hate the game. It was also heavily swung in the favour of the AI, such as giving them 20000 life-points, when you get 8000, or letting you only use 1 of a specific card, yet they could have 3.

I'm pretty sure i got rage at every game when i was younger. Don't know how many SNES and PS controllers i've gone through, but thank god there was very thick glass on CRT's or mammy would not have been happy!

Still rage a bit these days, CoD MP being the main cause. But if a SP game is annoying me to rage proportions, unless it has a fantastic story, i'll just stop playing it.

Driving games generally. Especially Gran Turismo. Great fun at the start, but after a while you can spend days trying to shave 0.1sec off your time to progress to the next challenge... My controller isn't the better for it!

On a totally unrelated note, check out my ad on Adverts. "Gamepad for sale. Almost brand new, I only opened it to make sure it works".

Metal Slug. I've been coming very close to 1 crediting it over the last week but just can't get through the second half of the final mission. Driving me mental so it is!

Battletoads. What made it worse for me was that it was a friends copy, so I couldn't set it free out the window. The controller however, met the wall.

Demon Souls / Dark Souls are old skool difficulty, lots of people say "but it's so satisfying when you get past a tough part". I'm an average gamer so it's frikin impossible.
Went back to Demon Souls on a bet and got past 1-1, yes that's level 1. Satisfying enough to turn the game off :)
A few controllers thrown across the floor, couldn't throw them at the wall cos I'd have to paint and pollyfilla the area !

Lost a lot of cheetah annihalator joysticks back in the day, what's that crunching sound.

Last Boss fight in Fight Night Champion (Isac Frost) came very close to ejecting the disc and walking out of the house and throwing the disc as far as it would go as a Frisbee, never did finish the game

Last Boss in Metal Gear Revengence, one of those cúnty bosses where it's not good enough you beat them once, twice, or even three times, they keep coming back for more. Gave up and never finished the game, almost broke my foot in frustration at one of the earlier bosses in that game also.

Angelo Credo boss level in DMC4 took me forever to get past, one or two other bosses in this game but this one takes the biscuit. Did finsih the game though despite the difficulty.

I've lost my cool a few times playing games, but only once ever have I been reduced to that cliche of smashing stuff in rage, and surprisingly enough, even to myself, it was playing Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary on Legendary. It was a part where you've to get past several cloaked enemies armed with instant kill close combat weapons, but it was literally impossible to fight them all on this difficulty level. I must have tried 30+ times, and eventually I smashed my controller off the ground in a vicious rage attack involving a lot of screaming and senseless babbling, and walked away. Later I googled it and by switching to 'classic' i.e. original Xbox graphical mode, it was an absolute walk through, as in, got it on first attempt. Such a dismal waste of a good controller, and I've never before or since lost my cool like that.

XCOM... nothing stings quite like missing a 95% shot and 2 of your squad dying because of it.

I just gave up playing on the Iron Man mode.

Now instead of playing it like it's supposed to be played I treat it as a puzzle game. I can't derive any enjoyment out of it otherwise.

Same goes for Football Manager tbh. It takes too long to do anything for losing in a cup final to ever be an option.

When I was a kid it was MGS. Wasn't old enough to understand I think. Drove me mental. Then a few years back me and a friend player them all from start to finish. Still frustrating at times
