    Have you got a link?

As for using them. No. Never use a bore snake. Always a rod, and attachments. Have a new rod, and new attachemnts for the upcoming CZ i bought. Hopefully will have her by next Tuesday/Wednesday.

    Is it a brown one?

The one I bought was advertised as hoppes but was a bit more than that if I remember correctly.

I bought one for my .17 and .22 off ebay from Asia, they are the real deal and not copies/knock offs

Cost me €22 for both including delivery. My local shop charges €28 EACH and centrefires like .270, .308 are a lot more expensive !

I just run it through the .22 mainly if theres a build up of carbon. On the HMR if I run it through , it wont affect accuracy and theres no need for a fouling shot. But I would not consider it cleaning the barrel, not properly anyway. The best way is with the rods every so often. The only trouble I find is that I cant get my hands on a decent kit, especially for the HMR. The amount of rods that have broke on me is ridiculous. The part with the threads seems to be so weak that if you sneeze itll break !

More than likely other would disagree. Each to their own. I simply don't like them, and don't rate them as anything buy an ineffective excuse for a cleaning implement.
.......,would they not be ok for quick cleans between proper cleans,?........
My question to that would be in what situation would you find yourself needing a quick or "emergency" clean?
......... and why do you not like them?thanks
Simply put they are not a cleaning tool.

You have a long piece of "rope" with wire embedded into it. You pull it through and the entire length of the snake gets a covering of dirt. Now everytime you run it back through your gun that dirt is simply getting spread around, and best of all the wire bristles are picking up the dirt and fouling (possible oil if you use that too) and creating a lovely paste that runs across your crown each time you pull the snake through.

I always carry a cleaning rod for whatever rifle i'm using. If a situation presents itself where i must clean the rifle (emergency style) i return to the car, stick on the nylon brush or jag, and run it through. Each time i run a rod through i can remove it and wipe the body of the rod to prevent gunk build up. If the patch or brush gets too dirty i can use another/replace it.

IOW the rod goes down the barrel clean each time. The snake doesn't. Say you are in a situation where mud, muck or some sort of dirt has gotten into/plugged the end of your barrel. A bore snake (as an emergency tool) is useless. It cannot break through this blockage. A cleaning rod can.

Lastly i never partial clean my guns. I clean them or i don't. There is no in between for me. So a bore snake as a quick clean is pointless/useless to me.

It's not my intent to make people "do as i do". I've answered the question as i believe, and some will agree, others won't. Some might even consider it pure crap. However for me the bore snake simply does not tick any box as a cleaning tool.

I'm sure that in some circumstances a bore snake might be a useful tool however i cannot see a situation where we as shooters/hunters would be in such a position as to need it.

Out hunting "emergencies" that would require a quick clean are normally sticking the barrel into something and getting dirt in it or a dud firing and the bullet lodging in the chamber.

A bore snake is 100% useless here.

Its tough enough to get the weight through a .17 barrel when its dirty not to mind when its blocked.. you've no chance of cleaning.
Same goes for when a bullet could get stuck, which has happened with the hmr to people. You'll need a rod to push it out.

I only ever use the bore snake on my shotgun these days. couldn't tell you where the .17 one is even its been so long since it was used.

Got a .22 bore snake off one of the lads off here! :D Works perfect in my .22 air rifle. One pull of it and a patch and its clean!Find it a brilliant tool for an air rifle maybe not a rifle as it would be alot dirtier !

hi 1shot,you are probably right,a snake might be good for air and .22lr that use lead, but copper and carbon is harder to sort
