Well I've a mink trap here ready to go and i know there is plenty of mink in the river .......but before I set the trap I'd like to get some info on dispatching.......to young for a air rifle, been told to drown them but i dont think this is humane.....its looking like a sack and shovel, does anyone use this?what's the best type sack to use,is there a good chance of them escaping....I also have 2 fenn traps which i use for grey squirrels and was thinking if i made up a trapping comb and held the mink In the top of the cage slide in the fenn into de cage and put abit of food on fenn and snap!I woudnt set the fenn straight out as id be afraid of catching otters etc thanks in advance all options welcome
    :)

You could gas them, as they do on mink farms. Connect a hose to an exhaust and place trap in an enclosed box or bag, the mink will expire in about a minute, once your set up is airtight.

    How so?

In a previous thread you were discussing getting a shotgun so why not a rifle?
,been told to drown them but i dont think this is humane.....its looking like a sack and shovel, does anyone use this?what's the best type sack to use,is there a good chance of them escaping
Please remember that while a clean kill is always the preferred outcome some methods are just not right. Like the ones mentioned above, or water boarding, or a board with a nail. Get someone with a gun to do it for you. Let the mink out and as soon as it's out shoot it. Job done.

How have you been getting rid of the squirrels? Can you not do the same for the mink?

No need to let the mink out, use a trap cartridge at 30 yds, this will kill mink without damaging cage. I know a fella who traps for NPWS, over 50 traps in use, It's his method.

Sorry didn't explain properly me mam doesn't want a gun cabinet in the house ,god knows why but with the u/o I have now I'm able to take it apart and use a trigger lock but if I go for a sir rifle or normal rifle means getting a cabinet ......ment like not old enough outa the house ta get cabinet if ya no what I mean?. As regards the squirrels they just keep coming havnt seen a red in the forest I trap in about 6 years .so the fenn trap inside the live cage using a trapping comb would work for the mink I have 2 fenn mk 6 and 2 mk4s

Trap cartridge or #7shot is the right job, won't harm the cage.

Yep, that's the way. Never damaged any of my traps and always killed the mink.

To answer your question, setting a fenn
indide the cage wont work for several reasons that i'm not going 2 get into.. Just trust me that its not the way to go! Its a pity you cant get the air rifle because its the best method of dispatch. What about coal bag and shotgun?

Set a fenn trap in a tunnel you can make from scrap bits of mdf. Itll do the job of dispatching the mink for you !
Only other way you can use a shotgun without damaging the trap is with a 24g or 28g load of 7.5's or 8's or even 9's would be perfect if you can get them. Stand a good 25 or 30 yards back and shoot.

Fenn traps kill? The spring action traps. Mink cages dont.
