Am also heading to Borris on Saturday morning to catch the Springer tests. Have never been to this particular fair before - is it as big as the fair in Birr ?

Anybody there today? Might head up in the morning for a while. Is it worth a 20 minute drive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭Johnny max

    Was there today
Not worth €15 though 10 was enough. There is a good aray of stuff

Was there today, good fun, lots to see.
IMHO much better in quality than Birr, as Birr is full of the same thing stand after stand and even at that its not great, giving Birr a miss this year, in the hope it wakes up for next year.

Was there all day and tomorrow too, didn't get much time to go have a look.

Not long home after deciding last minute to go.

The €15 entry fee was a little steep, but not surprising. Have been to a good few of these and the entry fee is always steep.

After saying that i was pleasantly surprised. I attended the Birr one and one in Antrim and they have been getting worse and worse to the point i haven't bothered with them the last 2 years.

The fair was not as big as Birr, but definitely better use of the stands. 4-5 gun stands, plenty of choce for food, clothing, fishing, dogs, stuff for the kids, etc. A very nicely balanced lay out. The food was a little expensive, but edible. (Keep an eye out for the sweet stand :D)

There was a nice few Scottish and English stands. The prices were very keen. Met two Irish dealers that were there for the day, and they said they could not compete with some of the prices. Brand new pigeon magnet, decoys, and battery for €100. Brand new Muck boots for €100 and under. Hunter for €100 and under. Seats, decoys, netting, hides, clothing (all known brands), etc. all at good prices.

Spent more than i ever planned, but had an enjoyable day. Met some familiar faces, and other than a heavy shower or two it was a good day out. a nice change from the hyped up fairs that are turning into field trials only, with food stands. Don't get me wrong i'm sure most people enjoy trials, etc. but when a fair is more centred/focused on that and stands for shooting/fieldsports are few and far between. Well in my book it's not a fair.

Anyway if you are looking to pas a couple of hours it's worth a trip.

There today, massive improvement from last years one.Was at shanes castle in antrim few weeks back and borris was way better.kids had a ball, plenty of stalls with mixed varieties of goods for sale, adrian the falconry guy was very good entertainer the way he lets the public be involved, young lad loved the pellet gun place, young one came home with enough teddies to open her own shop.lol..The planes WOW..All in all a great day out.Cant wait til next year as certainly will make the trip again..Next stop is birr for me.

Forgot all about them. Was watching for ages then realised i should tape some of it. Only got a few minutes of it, but it was a good display. At one point i thought they were going to collide.

Had a couple of kids on the pellet guns today and the future is looking bright if they keep an interest in shooting
