Been flat out shooting the last few days myself (Beretta well and truly broken in now), and i'm chomping at the bit as the lads down my way are getting ready to start this week (fingers crossed).

Best day so far was Saturday, but have had a good, and steady few days. Hope it's a prelude.

This month has been good to me, late planted rape provided good sport late June into July. Even though most fields have gone to flower there are still large areas of young plants keeping the birds interested. The wok is on over time with stir fry pigeon.
If this weather keeps up the grain should yellow soon enough. Just have to keep the
    cartridges stocked up......

Best thing to do is try and get out with other lads. Although there are many tips one thing I have picked up is that its not an exact science and the rule of thumb is if it doesn't work change it.
There are so many variables you are better off tagging along with someone over the year to see how its done. One little thing can either turn the birds away or bring them in thier droves.
Recon is important as is keeping in touch with the farmers. Look for young / cut rape, ripened / fallen / cut grain, root crops - turnips etc, flowering - coliflower, brussel sprouts. All of these will provide good sport.
