Hi. Anticipating some regular questions, (i.e. waiting for a particular thing to download) I thought it might be useful to have a post with most of the important dates for the next year. Useful to have everything in the one place. Cheers!

I'm presuming that as a deferral student I register in person with the firsties?

In fairness it's more like 2 and a half weeks. Plenty of time!
    More than summer!

    I wouldn't know! :D
The last time that I did exams was in summer 2011!

Oh god, that's a long time ago... I need to finish this degree already!

Am jealous. Assuming they let me in, I'll still be doing exams right through third year of the Phd.

To answer (not really) your earlier question, I have no idea about deferrals. But they send out info by mail or by post, so you'll know soon enough. Whatever the mail I got last week, it wasn't from registration but it did tell me the date of my thing.

I still have about 5 years left of exams. There's no advantage for me!

Cheers. I'll keep an eye on the post so!

You were lucky! Last year the exams started on the 4th January! (3rd for Theology students)

Wow that is quite a while ago! I'd say you can't wait to be finished in Maynooth at this stage then!

    Ah you're noooooooooooot! :P

Maynooth has a LOT of mature students so you're a lot younger than the average age i'd imagine!

I would feel veeery sorry for her if she was forced to stick around some matures doing the same course. Gladly she isn't old enough for that :)

I feel vaguely insulted. Unless you have some very particular ones in mind...

Based on what I know I'd be pretty sure that she does!

There are some exceptionally sound mature students in law. And then there's the opposites...

Don't worry, I do have few in mind :) I personally know really nice mature student but I'm just speaking generally thinking about few. Was I completely wrong thinking that you are not going into 3rd year law next year? :o

As a mature student I can say that even mature students feel the same about those types of mature students.

On topic this thread is making it sink in that I wont be back next year. :(

I must admit all of the mature students in my course for first year were all so nice. They often stop me in the college for a chat! Nice to see groups of people mixing with older/younger students. I know a lot of students my age are completely negative about mature students, but i've never had any negative things to say about any mature students in my class

Age doesn't matter I think. Dickheads will be dickheads. Thankfully they're few and far between in Maynooth.

(finding it really hard to refrain from taking a dig at other universities...)

Who me? No... just wrapped up my masters dissertation. Wondering if another four years is really a good idea...

Is it true that a Masters degree is completely soul-wrenching?

As with everything else, it depends. I loved almost everything about mine. But I deliberately chose to do things that I loved, rather than what might have been practical or aimed at a particular career. There's a lot more work involved than in the undergraduate degree, but it's not necessarily more difficult. There's mostly just a far greater level of detail, or at least that was my impression. From talking to others, it seems it can often feel a lot harder when the MA you choose is not something you're really passionate about.

Which reminds me... there's a later submission date for postgraduate theses, 31st October, I'll have to edit that first post.

Then you had nothing to worry about. I was just talking about some matures doing Her course :) I'm not saying that all of them are bad :)

I'd love to do my MSc in an interdisciplinary subject, new masters in Political Psychology in Queens University! Not very practical really either, but it'll be combining my Psychology undergraduate and my love for Politics together so how could you go wrong? Be grand! 2nd year has yet to be passed before plans are finalised anyways! :P

Newbie asking here, but for orientation/first year registration week are 1st years expected to stay up for the full week or do you just go to the time of your course?

(I know all of this will become clear if/when I get accepted but I like just knowing these things :P )

No you wouldn't be expected to stay up for the full week, just the few days for your course.

any idea as to when you pick your lab classes? it does not show them on the timetable.

any idea as to when you pick your lab classes? it does not show them on the timetable.

During the first few weeks you'll be told when you have to go and sign up. It's usually during the first/second week when you'll be given the day to attend. For Biology you'll be automatically assigned a lab session based on your course/surname. For everything else, you'll have to pick your own lab/tutorials.
