Any word on that class size? It's great to see ESC progressing through to recruit training

Did anyone ask when the results would be posted? I forgot to. Still 6 days of interviews left so I'm hoping end of July / early August ?

Interview I felt I messed up. Sweating like a bull when I got stumped on a question. Panel of 50 apparently and not even 100 being interviewed, so they have to give every second person the job seems madness!! With odds so good I'm raging. Results will be out Friday week I was told.

Hopefully someone might get even more stumped than you were Harry.. dont give up hope just yet.

What question did they stump you on ?! (Only messing !!)

This panel of 50 is that going to be cut down to 28 after the physical and medical ??

Cheers for that all depends how everyone else does. I find it hard to fathom a panel of 50 will be formed. They want 28 initially but if need more will pull from the 50 who make the panel. If indeed these figures are correct.

Has anyone asked how many positions are available and/or are they making a panel and if so how many go on it ?

This is the picture 78 are to be interviewed with a panel of 50 they need 28 from that panel soon. Siptu want a 1:2 ratio of people getting the job in otherwords 100 to be interviewed with 50 positions but it doesn't look likely as it's too late to pull from outside the top 100 to make up numbers. So as it stands 78 being tested 28 fail. The odds are amazing.

My lord Harry them odds are amazing... how come only 78 getting interviewed. I thought they were taking the top 100 for interview ?

If we are succesful in the interview I take it we are going to be placed/ given a number on an order of merit.

22 pulled out this always happens. My brother is a station officer this is what he was told. It's why I'm raging i messed up in part. I will be gutted if I fail now.

Yes of course the letter states where you are on the panel. Did you do the firefighter competition in March?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭Jim Royle

    Cheers Harry.

Yeah done the FF and just missed out on getting called to Round 2, I placed early 700s..

I heard that some people took that initial apptitude test for the FF with absolutely no intention of going for the role. They basically took the test for some practice... Fuming when I heard that.

I went down on the interview last time. Gutted! You always get guys doing the test with no intention of taking the job which dilutes your chances but you can't prevent it. I can't believe they can only fail 28 of us as it stands it's unbelievable odds.

Are you serious Harry? That's the best news I've got in weeks

Yes. But siptu want 100 tested and are trying to get it done. But in reality they already invited 100. And the interviews have started they can't issue 22 letters now inviting others for interview. So I think the rules are going to be broken for us. Apparently there must be double the candidates interviewed for the number of positions available but they messed up this time. As it stands only 28 will fail. Pray siptu don't get their way.

For the firefighter campaign 500 were invited for interview I think 468 attended a panel of 160 was formed. The reason the drop out rate here is so high is the money is low and you must serve 2-3 years as a calltaker that isn't financially viable for alot of guys who are currently in very well paid jobs and they realise it now that they can't afford it.

I was told at end of interview that interviews go up until next Tuesday 19th and letters will be out within a week of that date, less of a wait suits me grand

That 78 figure just doesn't seem right to me for some reason ( not questioning you Harry) juat saying

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 302 ✭✭Harryhoofer

Yes Tuesday is the deadline for all 78 of us. They said to me they will push for letters to arrive on Friday.

Well we know 100 were invited and there are always drop outs always. I agree it does seem high the drop out rate but it is what I was told by alot of senior firemen. 7 days of interviews 2 boards leaves 39 candidates per board approx 6 per board per day being interviewed. There were over 80 scheduled to be interviewed starting on Monday but some dropped out since.

Makes sense actually, because they are definitely finished next Tuesday, I was in on Monday, thought it went really well, 34 minutes long, I must've drank that whole jug of water lol apologies to whoever was in after me and got the dry mouth lol :-)

Lads I just this email from boards:
    Dear stringbox,

[REDACTED] has just posted the following in the "[DFB] Temporary Emergency Services Controller" thread, in the Other Emergency Services Recruitment forum:

"Alright lads. My uncle is on one of the interview panels and said some of the waffle out of some lads is unreal. One fella apparently came in saying he goes around every night helping the poor, another fella reckons he's head of the board of his local school. Some other fella said he knows five languages and can blow fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse."

    :pac:

    I AM William Wallace!
Anyway lads, even if you delete posts, others can still read them, FYI!

While I was waiting for my interview the other day, two lads never turned up for their interview for the other board. The HR girl didn't seem impressed at all.

Dropping like flies, at this rate even people who scored low will have to make the panel. The successful candidates scored 720 or higher out of 800 points for firefighter which was crazy high. I have a feeling the cut off point for this will be far lower if they want 50 on a panel.
