Budget, I want them for nathing of course!

How do you think we can afford nice things?

Curran, you're too late with the long handled brushes. I found a good substitute using insulation tape, a bamboo and Wheel Woolies.

Make hay while the sun shines as they say (although I had to park in the shade). Another coat of 845 :)

You could always say that they are reflections.....

What's the best cloth for buffing out the wax? I find in low sun sometimes you can see a sort of hazing/hologram effect on the surface of the paint from it not being rubbed off well enough. It can be hard to see at the time.

Is that not because it hasn't quite gone off yet?

Got one of these with my last order, not too bad at all :)

With certain products it can be difficult to get all of the excess off without that 'hazing/hologram effect' and you'll struggle even more with a microfiber that has been used to do the whole car, and the cloth is starting to become 'clogged' with the product its removing. Best thing to do is to use one cloth to remove the majority of the excess and then use a 2nd cloth, for the final buff...this will ensure maximum effectiveness. If that hasnt been effective, give it a bit of time to cure further, and it will come off then....or should do with the next wash...which shouldnt be too long away given our weather! :P

My favourite is the Microfiber Madness Crazy Pile or the Summit 800; a bit pricey you might think, but they Crazy Pile's are quite large, and I cut them into 3 sections, and two would easily do the method above; so effectively, although smaller than an average microfiber, you are getting 3 decent cloths!

That makes sense, yeah I'd say I didn't leave it long enough and the two cloth thing makes sense too!

    Cheers

My usual trick to see if a wax is ready to come off is I gently rub a small bit with a finger. If it comes off with no residue left I then wipe it off. I've often left it for an extra 10 minutes if not too sure, and avoid leaving the car in the sun if I can at all.

I've also two Crazy Piles and on Curran's suggestion, I cut one in two (about 3/8 and 5/8, rather than half as I measured it arseways). I use the small bit to wipe the wax, shaking it regularly. After using it on the roof and bonnet, its off to the wash. I use the big one on the doors bumpers and boot and then wash it out. The whole one then is used for buffing, turning/shaking regularly.

Looking for a bit of advice of the more experienced folk here..

I`ve a 99 hatchback 2 door corolla, red in color, the paint job on it had always been in diabolical order. I am planning on selling it shortly and need to do some kinda job on the paint work before I do.

I used T-cut on it year ago which made an absolute hack job of it and and attempted to buffer it up a few times after that as well as regular washing with turtle wax but it didn't make of an improvement at all and it consistently fades during sun exposure even on only mildly sunny days...

Any suggestions on what I can do to attempt to restore the color a bit more?

Got the car out to the FN today for a two bucket wash. Excellent service as always. Wound up giving it a once over with a top up to the coating...well kind of a mix of reload and hydro2 for a bit of extra beading.

    Beading was improved anyway.

Just finished my unexpectedly long 12 hour detail, long and grueling :)

    Washed with G101 APC
    De-Tared with Annihilate
    De-Ironed with Korrosol
    Clayed
Compounded with Menzerna 300 on Microfiber Discs
Polished with Menzerna 3500 on a Black Foam Finishing Pad
Entire car wiped down with GTechniq Panel Wipe
GTechniq Crystal Serum Light Ceramic Coating Applied
    GTechniq EXO Hybrid Coating Applied

Not perfect by any means but I'm delighted with the results :D

The front grill of the vRS treated with the quartz has worked a treat. No more black to black...

What's the best option when drying off the car??
    Any input welcome

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

The Dry Me Crazy towel is one of the best if not the best drying towel.

I took advantage of the good weather and with the black car parked in the shade which didnt last long, I got it washed. Also did an extensive exterior wash on the e90

Recently got the e90 front and rear bumpers resprayed and a few chips on the bonnet touched up at Joes Crash Repair, and I have to say he did a great job and was very good value. Took a few years off the car :D

Literally rubbed my arse of this jeep today, but came up better than expected. Hasn't been washed in well over a year, complete with phone numbers on the paintwork!!

Wash, quick detar, windows cleaned, polished, wheel dressing.

Will the pooping every stop! Usually I spot some droppings and little drop of water sorts it out. Nothing was breaking down this concrete the birds are ****ting last week.

    Bad weather = pointless detailing
    Good weather = bird ****

I polished and waxed half my car yesterday (by hand) and my shoulders are aching today.. How the hell do ye do it lads?? Surely you're all incapacitated the following day..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,755 ✭✭✭ianobrien

If you do it often enough the muscles build up!

Generally I've found it hard work when I hadn't left the wax cure enough. If the wax is cured, it should come off quite easy. Also, I apply it in sections so I've a few sections curing while I'm waxing one and then buffing another.

If more time is needed for the wax to cure, get a cuppa and a bikkie. That helps the wax wonderfully.

Not joking here but having a few beers and being lightheaded actually makes detailing more enjoyable. You're as loose as fvck and although it can be hard to summon the strength at times, it's quite a funny feeling :D
