As per the big thread on HDUK, there's this LG 47LM649S going for approximately €679 + shipping via ParcelMotel Newry.

    * Pick white+silver version, not black.
    * 47 inch is €679+ and 55 inch is €999.
    * Actually don't bother with 55", they don't shipt that over to UK or Ireland.
    * They don't ship 47" over to Ireland either BUT you can get it thru ParcelMotel Newry. Works out to around less than €700 in total.
    * Smart - has built-in wifi too, so control with andriod app if you like etc.
    * HAs DVB S2 tuner - which means you can connect straight to the dish - I think?
    * If you have some way to pick up from Germany, 55" is a killer deal. Will you pick up one for me too please?! :)

Nice set but it will cost a good bit to deliver to your house via Parcel Motel as it has a large dimensional weight.
You could probably collect it at the depot for less.

I would never buy such a large set from abroad,if it is faulty it will be a nightmare to get it resolved.

That is a good point. I think the package dimensions are 107 x 69 x 26 or there abouts, which would equate to a dimensional weight of 63 kg according to Parcel Motel. So I think it will cost me standard €3.50 + 30 kgs over the 35 kg limit at €3.50 per 10 kg = €14 - To collect from Finglas depot which I am hoping to do. Brings the total to €685 for me.

Another good point, but Amazon are usually very good at dealing with faulty item returns.. fingers crossed they don't insist on picking up from Norther Ireland.

According to camel camel camel it was €649 at the start o the month so it might go cheaper if your thinking about buying it. You can track it and they'll email you if it does.

107x69x26 is the size of the actual product box but knowing Amazon who like alot of extra packing to protect stuff the delivered package could be alot bigger .

True ,Amazon have an Irish outlet so handy .

Parcel Motel only cover items up to €100 on their insurance so you'd be taking a chance if it got damaged/stolen.

You could try deliverme.ie ,they charge 22 euro for items up to 25kg in weight to be forwarded on from their address in the North to your home.
Much better than Parcel Motel for larger items .

Do you have to go through the whole purchase in German on the site ? Haven't use Amazon before and its a tad confusing not being in English.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

If you use Chrome, it will automatically detect German and translate.

PS: Quick update on reading various comments on HDUK etc, this model with "DVB-T/C/S2" is good to plug into your sky / other dish and get Freesat HD, however it's no good for Freeview HD / Saorview.

So it does not have Saorview :( shame it seemed like a real good deal otherwise

That is mis-information. There at lots of TV's that are no good no Freeview HD and fine for Saorview. This is no good for Freeview HD because it's not DVB-T2, however Saorview specs require DVB-T and the ability to decode h264 video streams. This has both so it *should* work. It may not have mheg-5 for the digital text.

Ah I see. I hope you are right jobyrne30, that would be really cool. I read that this model is essentially same as the 47LM640T that they sell in UK and here, and the large thread on avforums on 47LM640T is mostly positive. Looking forward to this TV now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,579 ✭✭✭Mr McBoatface

Be aware with this TV it will be "Now and Next EPG" only on the Satellite part, but it will receive Free to air HD satellite channels like BBC HD and ITV HD. It's not licensed for the Freesat HD 7 day EPG and if a TV channel moves position on the Satellite(change frequency) it will have to be re-scanned. Freesat HD automatically updates without user interaction.

Other than that it seems like a really good TV. Hopefully you can easily edit the channel menu to delete the 500 crap channels on Eutelasat/Astra28E. I'd be confident it would work with Saorview but non-certified LG TV's (one's mainly designed for the UK market) have had issues with Saorview in the past, so that confidence is somewhat reserved.

If Saorview is a priority I'd wait for somebody to confirm before buying.

Did you go for the white or silver as a matter of interest ? don't think I have seen a white tv before , sounds cool though

White and silver. That was 649 when I placed the order where as black version was 800+. Its going to be wall mounted in my case so no stand, just the thin white bezel. Fingers crossed its not too much of a change from all black TV we are used to.

Ahh, I thought it was one colour or the other... I like the idea of an alternative to black.

Anyone looking for a slightly larger TV, I saw this on Groupon UK

    http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/national-deal/Crampton-and-Moore/23067862

It is a 51" Samsung Smart TV for £799 and the model number is PS51E8000.

There seems to be conflicting specs online as to if it has a built in Freesat HD Tuner or not so I wouldn't depend on it. It does have a Freeview HD tuner though so will work with Saorview.

Spec seems pretty good for the price.

Why are you looking at older models? new models begin with LN, also PS are Plasma, if you're into it than you can find rock bottom prices here. I know because I bought 47LN TV recently and have been to many shops.

Just order one myself via Amazon.de and Parcel Motel. Hope it goes ok!

I've been looking arounf for a good while and cannot find a better set for this price.

    Who else ordered?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,023 ✭✭✭Barr

Don’t need a TV but am seriously tempted by this offer. Wanted a 3d TV for a while.

Please provide feedback once received – I would appreciate hearing about the tv.

@ Kingkong – how much did parcel motel work out at for this size of delivery?

Is it the cheapest way to get it delivered.

@KingKong, so far it loks like it's just yourself and me. My order from Friday is still "Shipping soon" status, where as folks on HDUK who ordered a earlier in the week said they were getting deliveries within two to three days and that the order was fulfilled from Milton Keynes. Not sure what's happening with my order (I chanced my arm and asked Customer Support if they can think of any way to ship a 55" to Ireland and the answer was 'No').

PS: Update: Got 'Dispatched' email from Amazon.de with a CityLink reference number. CityLink tracking shows they have the item and they expect to have it delivered to Belfast (and to Parcel Motel) tomorrow. Happy days! :)

Did you try routing it thru Parcel Motel's Newry address? For some strange reason, they won't ship to Ireland, but they will to UK & Northern Ireland. So both KingKong and I had to order it thru Parcel Motel - which will incur an additional fee of somewhere between 10-30 euros (I am guessing).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,708 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

So for Parcel Motel, would you have to pickup in Newry?

    -. . ...- . .-. / --. --- -. -. .- / --. .. ...- . / -.-- --- ..- / ..- .--.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

No, usually Parcel Motel delivers everything to a 'motel' thingee near you, but since this TV is going to be too big to fit into your usual 'motel shelf', they will contact you about an 'oversize parcel'. You can then either pick it up from one of their depots, or at the main Finglas depot. They will charge you based on the 'dimensional weight' of the box, meaning something like length x width x height of the Amazon box / 3000 = and if that comes up as say 100 for example, it will cost you 3.50 for the first 35 kg, and then 3.50 per every 10 kg over it = so 3.50 + 3.50 * 6.5 = 26.25 euro. This is for collecting from their depot. Delivering oversized packages to your address would be a lot more expensive. Have a read thru the below for more info, and there's a large thread here on boards about ParcelMotel.

    http://www.parcelmotel.com/howmuch.html

PS: Actually I don't know if you can pick up from Newry depot if that's more convenient for you. I wonder if anyone knows, and would that be cheaper (probably not..).

Tempted by this offer but will have to give it a miss.

I have used Parcel Motel a few times, but for smaller items and the experience was hassle free and very good. However, don't take my word for it, see this giant thread on the topic: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056698663

From what I can see in that thread - the parcelmotel price might be around €60 euro for a large TV based on the dimensional weight :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

Ouch, didn't think it would be that high... would it? :(

According to the spec sheet, the boxed size is 1330 * 810 * 141 mm.

I don't know what size of box Amazon would have around that - if I were to assume Amazon box is 1500 * 1000 * 150, Parcel Motels would calculate the dimensional weight as (150 * 100 * 15 / 3000 ) = 75 "dimensional kgs". And that would mean €17.50 to collect from Parcel Motel depot, and significantly more if you want it delivered to your address. Now I have no idea what size box Amazon would stuff the TV into - so everything depends on that.

If its shipped just in the TV product box we should be fine - they're fairly slimline these days - but if its strapped to a pallet standing up I assume the price could sky rocket.

I have this exact telly, got a great deal from currys on here at xmas.

If watching sport, play around with the settings or youll get ghosting watching live action, its fixable though. google around and youll find the optimum display settings for it.

The iphone app is great for it.

One thing you may find, while the onboard wifi media player means i dont have to transfer films from lapper to usb disk, I find sometimes it doesnt stream the audio from a particular movie. while initially I thought it was the movie format, if I copy the file to a usb disk, it does play audio connected through the usb so its onyl wifi affected.

I use wmp and tversity to stream over wifi. the media player will sometimes play only through wmp, sometimes only through tversity. maybe 10% of files. Im sure theres a reason but never bothered to figure it out.

If connected permanently, the tv gets updates from LG sporadically, at least 1 of these left the tv knackered which left me no tv for a day until Lg figured theyed messsed up and sent another update down. you can chose to auto-disable these which I did so at least if I do update and something goes wrong I'll know it was that rather than me coming down one morning and getting a blank screen.

Other than that, all in all, very very happy with the telly.

Does it receive SaorView ok Clint?
Do you mind sharing how much it was from Currys?
    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

Clint - what is the exact model number of your tv. I was under the impression that they only sold 640T here and in the UK were as 640S (or some 64nS) with DVB-S tuner was only sold in the continent. I could be wrong, but this could impact the Saorview capabilities that 'air' was asking about.

790 I think, got a stand with it. was 9 something online so I thought a good deal at the time.

Theres a newer model out now which is why them seem to be selling it off at the price listed here.

I dont know about the saorview, I didnt ask at the time. I have sky.

TBH, IMO, unless you really know your TVs youre not going to be able to tell the difference as in a 47 inch is a 47 inch unless youre going into the 1500e + market.

AFAIK all the software is the same on the LG smart tvs.

I can only comment that Im really happy with LG and with the TV both picture and smart facilities. And I watch a lot of movies and sport.

duffman, don't know much about that model, but I don't like active 3D - I see major pain with active shutter glasses, recharging them, kids breaking them, and they are not cheap to replace. Passive 3D that LG has on the other hand uses el heapo glasses that you can replace as many times as you wish. However some do argue that active shutter glasses are better or brighter etc - perhaps for a couple without kids (even then you would need to buy additional pairs of these expensive specs if you want to share a 3D movie or match with your friends).

Even better deal in my opinion is the 55" version of the same LG we are discussing. €999, but they wont' ship it out of Germany. If you have any way to arrange a courier / friend to collect it and forward it to you, it's a cracking deal (PS: Just realised I should asked a friend to do that for me.. doh..!)

Hey Positron, my order on Amazon is still pending, no dispatch notice yet.

Have you checked your parcel motel history to see if it has gotten to the depo yet.

Update: Dispatched at 11pm Tuesday, originally ordered on Sunday 11pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

KingKong, I ordered on Friday and it was dispatched around mid-day yesterday (Monday), and despite City Link tracking showing 'Planned delivery date' of today between 7:30 and 17:30), nothing has been delivered (nothing on ParcelMotel account) and the Citi Link tracking has no updates either. Guess I should give it another two days before I start panicking. Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, someone on HUKD confirmed that in came in LG product box (dimensions mentioned above) without any additional Amazon packaging. If that's indeed the case, it wouldn't be too dear to collect from ParcelMotel depot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

    City-link tracking shows this now:

26/06/13 12:37 These goods have been successfully delivered.
26/06/13 11:26 These goods have been loaded onto a van for delivery today.
26/06/13 10:02 These goods have successfully arrived at the Depot ready for delivery.
24/06/13 12:32 These goods have been scanned at the collection Depot and are now on route to the delivery Depot.

Nothing on ParcelMotel website yet. Yes, yes, I need to calm down. :)

    Eventually...!!
    26 Jun 2013 17:31 Belfast PRCL106nnnnn........ CheckedIn 26 Jun 2013 17:31

No email / text yet, but have someone already lined up to call into Finglas depot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed it makes it there overnight. :)

PS: And no photo yet either. I hope it's not too big to take a picture of...!!

PPS: I just figured out that on ParcelMotel site, if you hover or click on the the Tracking Number, you get different pop up windows with more info. Doh..!! Never knew such a feature existed before this..! Anyhoo, so they got it at around 14:30 and it's classified 'oversized', and it left Belfast depot at 5:31, to Finglas I am guessing. Definitely sending someone around 9 in the morning to pick it up.
