so i have been looking for a answer to this for a while now and sorry if there is already a thread about this topic i just couldn't find one

myself and the partner have been on the housing list for about 3 and a half years now, we put our names down when we had our fist child (Jake) and we were told that we were eligible for a 2 bed room house/apartment.

we have since had a second kid (Ethan) and when we got his birth cert down we went back in to put his name on our application as well and were told that we are still only eligible for a 2 bed house/apartment, and the women at the counter said if we had a girl that we would have been put on the 3 bed list no problem.

when i asked why that was she explained that children of the same sex can share a room but children of oppiset sex need there own room, to witch i replied "my children could end up hating each other or be so different to each other that it would make them sharing a room imposable"
but this fell on def ear's.

the question i am asking here is if i can do anything about this?
is there some rule or regulation to state that i am not eligible for 3 bed because i have 2 boys?

i have searched on line but found nothing.
    please help.

No your only entitled to a 2 bed apartment just like the rest of us with 2 kids
Unfortunately that's how it works if we all wanted only 3-4 bed houses nobody would be getting housed ,
Depending on what list your on you could still be looking at another 5/6 years waiting on an apartment

Why not just rent a 3 bed house/apt??

I just think it to be discrimination the fact that I have 2 boys and some one with a boy and a girl gets put on the 3 bed list.

We are renting a 3 bed house right now.

I'd say stay renting and leave the 2 bed houses/apartments for those really in need and grateful.

My parents had 6 children in a 3 bed house - I shared a room with my 3 brothers and it didn't do us any harm.

Time to get real in our current economic environment.

Why don't you ask for a swimming pool and helipad next time?

Get with reality for gods sake. Do you think the state or tax payer cares if your kids don't get on with each other?

I know its different times but have to say I grew up in a family of 7 kids in a 4 bed house. One bedroom for Mum and Dad and 3 bedrooms between 7 kids.

Should we have had an eight bedroom house?

Might depend on your location. My sis in law got a three bed and they have two girls !? Meath Area

What is with the abuse here folks????

The reason I am am asking this question is the fact that if I had a boy and a girl I would be eligible for 3 bed and I didn't think that to be fare.

And if you don't have anything constructive to add then don't waste my time and don't post

My thoughts exactly. The fact you were able to have a second child whilst on the housing list suggests that perhaps there are more needy people out there who would be grateful for a 2 bed.

So i got the pioneer pack of THE WARZ and have spent the hole day trying to gain access to the download page.

Is any one else having this problem???

Was so looking forward to playing this game tonight.

Plays up to date games on X box.

OK folks i left my iPhone in my jeans that went into the wash and now the phone wont turn on, i have dried it out and have been looking online for ways to fix it. now before i open it up and start to do a few things i have seen online, is there anywhere you would recommend i try out first.

and if anyone has had one fixed with water damage how much did it cost and where did you go?

    Owns/owned an iPhone 4s

i dont know about anyone else but i might stop watching game of thrones, was only really watching it for sean bean. some of the righting is unnecessary just like Spartacus was. i am only 26 and feal like a old ****er when i say things like this but i don't want to watch a show that constantly says "BY THE BALLS OF APOLLOS COCK" like there is no need for it. it makes the show into a b grade porno. if i wanted to watch **** acting and some chick get ****ed i would watch some porn. if you have a actor of the class like Sean bean you don't need that type of dialog.

Watches Game of thrones on Sky atlantic.

What's so terrible about two boys sharing ,
We've 2 girls don't see why we would be entitled to a 3 bed being honest its a bit of an insult to those who are subsiding our accommodation as it is ,
I'd take a one bed if it came to it

Yourself and that other poster are making assumptions about our situation, and to put something straight I never said I wasn't grateful for vein on any list because we are. And if the women at the counter never told me that I would never had thought a second about this. But to quote a earlier poster "the fact is she did"

Houses have never been cheaper, if I was in your situation I'd cancel the sky and iphone subscriptiona and instead of "spending the hole day" playing computer games, I'd get a job and buy a place.

Have a job full time, and read earlier post about Xbox sky and iPhone.

What age is your second child (Ethan), chewythefirst?

I actually lived in a house growing up with three beds but still shared with my brother until we were teenagers (spare room, guests, au pairs etc).

I really think its totally fair to be offered a two-bed in your circumstances OP.

    *Not trolling*

9 weeks, and no we are not looking to get it right now ( I have to make that clear because a lot of people on this thread are making assumptions and jumping to conclutions )

Again I will be happy when they come to me with a 2 bed house or apartment, what I don't think is fair is that if my kids were of different sex I would get a 3 bed. Why is none getting that?????

To answer the op, The simple answer to your question is that its not really appropriate for a boy and girl to share a bedroom , but fine for two boys or two girls to do so. That's why you will only be offered a two bedroom. There is no inequality.

You should have known you were on a hiding to nothing by posting that question on here chewey the place is full of begrudgers, smart asses and thanks whores. I'd advise you to leave it at that as they are not worth the time it takes to reply to them.

If you feel that strongly about being discriminated against maybe you should pay for your own house like most of us mugs.

    +1

Shared with two brothers, three sisters in other room, third room for parents. No brand new bikes, top of the range games consoles or sun holidays. But we were comfortably off in my opinion, never wanted for anything really important.

Like you say, time to get real in current environment. What some people described as "on the breadline" today would have been considered one of the luckier ones in the 80's. Far less sense of entitlement back then.

    On the panini line...

We are renting a 3 bed house right now.

Can I ask why exactly you need a council house, since you are currently able to rent an even better house?

As Muppet said before going a bit off-track, it is accepted that girls and boys do not share rooms.

I don't know how international it is but it has obviously been the social norm (perhaps a stronger word I don't recall right now would be more appropriate) here that it is inappropriate for boys and girls to share.
