For me I was 16, my sister took me to a night club and I drank 3 bacardi breezers. When I got home to bed the room would not stop spinning. That put me off alcohol until I was 17 and got to college.

17 for me. Copious amounts of vodka.

But I must have been a hardened drinker from the start, because prior to that, at 15 and 16, I'd have two or three drinks on a night out (lax security in the local over 18s!), usually Pernod or Bacardi Breezers and they would barely even make me tipsy.

16; pints of fosters when I was in London for a weekend away, topped off with vodka. Ended up being driven around the locality trying to sober me up before I was caught by the oul pair. I vaguely remember getting sick out the door.

Then my oul pair made me go do touristy shíte the next day whilst severely hungover!

13 years of age, drunk on a bottle of Thunderbird :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭Shenshen

    In my mid-20s.

Don't get me wrong, I can't even remember how old I was when my gran first allowed me a sip off her beer, it's just that I never drank so much that I would end up drunk until one day in my 20s.

I hated it, and have avoided getting drunk since.

14, polished off a bottle of gallo. Ugh.

Remember being on the bathroom floor at 4am thinking I was about to die. Kept saying 'I'm sorry, I'll never drink again'

15, on a karate club trip to Jersey. Having to catch 2 flights the next day with a hangover put me off the stuff for a while, although the Aer Lingus fry (late 90s when this was a thing) did act as good soakage...

12, a few hours after I took the pledge.
14, on a school trip to France.
15, drinking neat brandy - first time I actually passed out from drinking.
    16/17 - started drinking regularly.

18 for me, on my 18th birthday, budweiser/heineken!

Had been tipsy before a few times, at 16/17 usually on just a few bacardi breezers , but 18 was the first time I was just drunkity drunk!
I remember thinking one minute "oh being drunk is great, I can handle drink" :D then quickly went to "I dont think I can walk the 5 or 6 steps to the bathroom without falling over" :o:rolleyes:

4 . With my neighbour who was 4 or 5 at the time, we nicked a couple of bottles of beer out of his parents house and sat beneath a tree playing "oul fellas". Got caught (obviously), vomited everywhere and left it until I was 14, almost 15. I had a few beers when we got the Inter Cert results and I was a fair bit pissed alright. Didn't get caught thank Christ!

Too bad you've never reached enlightenment.

17, vodka in Paris on a balcony outside our hotel window. It was amazing... still is to this day. Quote of the trip was "I feel great" because I kept saying it. :D

13, My friend and I went halves on a six pack of Dutch Gold, I have been drinking that liquid gold ever since. I'm even a member of the Dutch Gold appreciation society.

12, a few hours after I took the pledge.
Do you take the pioneer pledge at 12? I thought it was earlier. I remember on the day I became a pioneer I found a can of beer behind a wall at the priests house, I took it as a sign and drank the can.

I'd drank a few time before in (including in the pub on jc results night) but think the first time I got properly drunk was when I was 16 down the pub with a few relations, Had about 6 or 7 pints, cant believe how drunk I was after so little drink looking back, compared to what I put away some nights now.

Another late bloomer here, I was just twenty when I first got drunk. It was at the end of second-year exams if I remember correctly.

I think I was ten and robbed 4 cans from the fridge.
That would have been a once off really.
Then at 12 in 6th class we would have been drinking a bit. Only a few cans really during sleepovers. Still usually only about 4 cans.
At 14 I would have been drinking every weekend. A lot more during the summer. Probably drinking 6 cans and some vodka back then.
I enjoyed it at the time but looking back I wish I'd never touched it. Actually looking back it really was ****. What a waste of time.
    Don't drink kids :)

    15. Bottle of shitty wine because I'm classier than the rest of you cider-swilling cretins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Probably 15. I actually don't remember. I remember my first sly drinks, one was a slug of whiskey in a mate's house that burned the ****e out of my insides, the second was 1.5 bullet cans of budweiser which basically had no effect. After that we used to have a 2/3 cans in a mate's house or in a field, we'd never be drunk, just tipsy really. I can remember the first time I got absolutely legless at 15. Drank ten cans on new year's eve when a mate's parents went away. Spent half the night puking in their jacks and had to go to bed when I got home at 6pm the next day.

Around 19/20. It was alright. Depends what you define drunk as though, I've never been totally scuttered.

I can only have been about 12 at most, but at my uncles art exhibition I decided, for some weird reason, to sneak behind the piano with the odd few glasses of white wine. I can vaguely remember being carried out after I'd been found passed out and then throwing up in the car. My parents disappointment was worse than any punishment would ever have been:(

I really don't know why I did it.

3 and a half y old, barely could speak... Woke up one morning, landscape contractors were around to do work, in my normal big mug of water was (every morning I drank from that) a ton of home-brewed brandy for the workers. Great stuff, I'd say... But strong too. Took a good mouth full and then ran to daddy telling him that the water burns for some reason.

Worried as he was, he immediately took me to the doc, she laughed and said that I'll just be merry for a couple of hours and then I'll sleep 'till it goes out of the system.

Ahh, good old happy romanian days...

At 12/13 me and a friend raiding the drinks cupboard while parents were out for the evening.

In an hour we necked a bottle of red between us and then started whiskey shots. All the while eating a big bowl of popcorn.

My friend puked before we fell into bed, I didn't.

Next morning I woke up and had a red sticky lumpy mess all down my front, in my hair, all over the bed. My friend started screaming as she thought I'd exploded or something.

Smell of whiskey off me for two days and haven't touched the stuff since.

In retrospect, it was pretty dangerous!

    14 - 15 started drinking and continued...
    17 - 20 - Fairly heavy drinking...
20 - 23 - Still drinking heavy enough lots of houseparties, constantly hung over.

26 now and I don't really drink anymore , been there and done that. Maybe a bottle of wine on the weekend.

Drank half a bottle of Alter Wine sitting in a field by the church when I was about 9. Could not stand up for ages and my trouser knees were all muddy from trying to get up. :D

Whiskey when I was 15 my vomit was black.

When my Dad found out he made me drink the rest of the bottle.
